Aight. So I am looking over the course of the next year to find my dream sub. I'm not dissatisfied, I will just be upgrading. Now I have been looking around and there are so many options, and there are so many subs I do not know about. Anyway... details... -15" sub... budget of ~500-600 dollars -NOT an SPL sub, but I want it to handle around 3000-3500 watts all day -Fs under 30 hz (low resonance) -Xmax of 25+mm (above average excursion) -Good motor strength (average-above average) -Good mech. handling (I'll put in as big a box as I can) -It'll be ported for sure. Probably tuned around 28-30 hz. Now a fully loaded BTL w/ everything is 470 shipped. I figured my budget is…

After my brother came to me wanting a new sub for his 84 S-10 after his ex-wife stole and sold his old one on him. I imediatelly recommended the MAW-15. Well today we installed it in an old 2 cubic foot prefab box I had kicking around the house and hooked it up to his Alpine MRP-M350 which is rated at 350rms @ 2ohm. With the size of the box and seeing as its only an extended cab, the MAW sits only 2" behind the front seats facing forward. And I have to say.......having never driven a car where I bascially sat near the sub, or even having a hatch or fold down rear seat for that matter. I was truely impressed yet again at the musicality and overall output of this driver. My…

I am really looking forward to getting my first system... Right now...im pretty set on a headunit...probably a kenwood(KDC-MP735U) or pioneer(DEH-P59000IB) But im looking heavily into Subs....Mainly the Mach 5 IXL(12.2 and 10.2) and the SSA Icon...i know there isnt a HUGE fan base for these subs but as far as getting loud...and sounding decent which is better...because i could spend 300 and get two IXL 10s but i would end up spending more money in the electrical system... I saw the Fisher Customs has a good box/woofer deal with the Icons.... All in all i want some clarity and some bass...but i dont wanna use my whole trunk up...thanks!

i let go of the 4 18 idea and and decided to go more practical. i am in the market to buy a sundown 3000 or maybe and mtx 92001. i want to use either 2 15 inch subs or 2 18 inch subs if i can fit them in my trunk with adequate airspace. the subs i have been looking at are the orion hcca's. are these subs any good? btl's fully loaded are also looking good but i am not sure exactly which sub to buy since i have never heard any of them play in my application. my question is using a ported box in the trunk of a 04 towncar, which sub and amp combination would give me the best impact. i am more concerned with impact and deepness of the bass. if anyone could point me in the righ…

So, I'm been itching to build. But I still cant come up with a good design for the Uberwoofer for HT use. By HT use, I mean an F3 <25 and a lowpass ~40. Action movies. heh. Any way you slice it, no more then 600rms to throw at her. Thinking BIG Ported (although it's not easy to hide in a liviing room). 6.0ft^3 net, (3) 4" aeroports, tuned to 20hz. Gives me a nice knoll around 30-50hz, flat ~25 - 30, and an F3 around 18. -or- Maybe a dub tuned BP? 6ft one side, 2ft the other... small peak from 22-30 then steep roll off till 42ish on the high side and a low end f3 of 19ish. -or- A... nah, I dont have room to make a proper horn. I don't like TL's much. At least, I didnt …

running 3 sa 10s in each own 1.2cube ported boxs, i dont like the 80hrzt sounds but at 50it sounds godlike,, i think the 80snds like to many tones tryn to escape at the same time in the sub for the type of music, but on bass boosted music 50hrzt just blows the doors off, sound perfect and clean

I'm trying to come up with a ported box using the http://www.reaudio.com/speaker_box/LPort_Box_Calc.html, for my MAW-12. I've come up with the following, just wondering if it's right. I've gone to a bunch of other design programmes but they seem to require metric conversions to be made or info I don't see on the specs for the sub. The measurements I've come up with are the following: Using 3/4 MDF, 24X15X15X15, Port 1.5x13.5, with this I come up with a tuned freq of 28.62 which is right around the specs of the MAW-12. Now, the box volume listed is 2.019 feet with this design, is this the net box volume including those 2 extra sheets used to create the port inside t…

When does the size of an enclosure start to be too big and start affecting performance? The reason I'm asking is because I was thinking of using the current box I have (it's for a 12") and building a faceplate for it, so I can fit a 10" in it. The box 1.21 cubic feet. I was looking at the 10" Icon, but after displacement there's still about .19 cubic feet extra. Is this too much extra volume?

Do you think the Zed minilith would be a good amp to power my SI 15 or should I keep my Concept CC-D1200. TheCC1200 has a few issues but has more power than the Zed but the Zed has a nicer build and can make more than the rated 600rms. But I like to have the overhead. Also the 15 has a slightly softer suspension, correct, than the 12? So having 1200rms on tap isn't needed. Who knows.

I'm going to be buying (4) 6.5 inch midbass drivers and I'm looking at either the Kicker SS6.5s or the Mach5 Audio 6.5 midbass. They will be actively crossed at 60hz up @24db and 200hz down @12db. They will be getting 75watts rms each and run free-air in the stock door locations of my '04 Dodge Durango. Any thoughts...other suggestions. Either way I go it will only cost me about $150 and that's the range I would like to stay around.

I just order 2 maw-15's from the sound solutions shop. I gonna run them sealed and power them with a hifonics bx1500d about 1300-1400 clean watts at 1 ohm to both of them together. How hard do you think they will hit and how loud? Im running a fi ssd ported with the same amp right now but i need more , since my car has bad cabin gain. Will this set up kill my 12 inch ssd I have now? Im trying to get my setup louder and deeper then a fi q 12 inch ported powered by a 1000 watt lanzer amp. My friend has that setup in his scion tc, and it bangs in that car. I have a 4 door sedan and decided i needed more to get as loud as his. I just hope this is what im looking for. Any Tho…

Hello, I am currently putting together my plans to build a box for one fi audio ssd 12. I am going to build a ported box and I was wondering about bracing? I will only be pushing 500 watts to this sub but will be upgrading to 1000 rms in the future. I was wondering if putting 45's in the corners would be enough or if I need something more. I keep reading mixed responses about 45's in a sub box. I also am having a hard time understanding the whole port length thing. Any help is always appreciated thanks!

Well we had our Focal rep come into the shop today, and he was telling me an another co worker about all the new Focal stuff. I happened to ask him about the Focal Grande Utopia Em and he told me that they are the best sounding speakers he has ever heard. With the 180K pricetag for a pair, I would hope they sound that good. But here's my question, the subwoofer uses some new technology where it doesn't use a permanent magnet at all, but instead uses a huge winding of wire as a magnet. What advantages does this yield? I though I heard someone say something about controlling the force of the motor also. I just want someone to simplify the function of this.

Sorry if this is the wrong forum, But I don't wanna screw up my subs. There may be a simple solution to this. I might just be making it harder than it really is. On my old Kicker 1200.1 amp, there was a set of RCA signal outputs. I ran these to my amp for the door speakers. Well I don't have this on my IA 20.1 Any suggestions? Or it as simple as running a couple sets of RCA splitters? Another question: I want to run 2 subs off this amp. My subs are dual 2 ohm SI Mag 12s. I know how to wire the sub coils (parallel) But do I run them to 1 connection at the amp or 2?
