Subwoofers / Speakers

Discuss Subwoofers And All Aspects Of Speakers here.

I built my bro a box to house two CDT EF 8" subs. The box is tiny but meets the minimum recommended volume. If the bass is turned up much, whether it be by volume knob, gain, or bass knob, the subs have a high pitched electronic noise. This goes away if one sub is taken out. The only thing I can think of is that the 3" of space between the two magnets is not enough and are causing distortion. Any other possibilities? Oh yea, the subs face away from eachother so the magnets are back to back.

  2. I only have a 4" hole in my door and i need to find a set of mids that will clear. Does anyone know how big the diameter of the magnet+ terminal is? My rainbow mid was exactly 4" and it barely cleared and my AA poly mids didnt clear at all. Heard good things about them and want to give them a try.

I'm looking for a 12" sq sub in the 500-600w range. I haven't been keeping up, but I seem to remember reading that RE products have gone down in quality. I know the IDQ is an all time favorite. Anything else fit the bill?

Anyone mess with the CDT mid tweets? Can't remember the model numbers. The concept and size sounds cool, but I'm wondering what the DIY realm thinks of it.

Ok maybe I am making a mistake thinking I'm going to be able to run a good active crossover system on my first system ever. I'll start out with what I do know, if I get a good enough head unit I can run active straight off of it, I don't need anything better than that for now. Also I know that I have room for 6.5" speakers in the doors and 1" tweets in the A pillars. But what is the difference between a 2 way and 3 way speaker? Also I have pretty much no way to go listen to quality speakers unless I want to drive about 3 hours to the only decent car audio store around. So I know you are all going to say that I need to hear them myself to decide but that is just out of the…

Been doing a bunch of reading and looking for a smaller sub for my car. For the past three years or so, my RLp 15 handled the bass duties, and now I'm itching for a change. It's a great sub, but I want to step down to a 12 or a solid 10. So far I've looked into the Fi Q, Diyma 12, Hertz Hi Energy (I LOVE the Mille, but it's out of my budget, my cousin has a Mille 12...sweet sub), IDQ's, and the Rainbow Profi. So far I'm leaning towards the Hertz. Any other subs you guys have in mind that I can look into? I sort of regret selling my old Brahma 12 MKII. That was a nice sub.

Well right now I am gonna get either 2 Fi BL or 2 ICONS. They will be wired to 1ohm off my soundstream pca2000d. But in the future i will be getting a zx2500.1. On the kicker site it rates it a 2500 rms at 2 ohms. Are the kicker amps one ohm stable? Cause if i get dual 1's to run off my soundstream amp at 1 ohm then when i upgrade to my kicker amp and not be able to wire them to 2 ohm then i got a problem. I was thinking though if i just got Dual 2's and just ran them off the soundstream amp at 2 ohms for 1500 watts then just be set for when i get the kicker amp. Or can will i be able to wire dual 1's to 2ohms off the kicker?

Hello, I have a friend that just had his sub and amp removed in a unfriendly way from his 2000 Toyota Tundra access cab. He is thinking about putting a new one back in but not visible this time. he was told by a local shop they had a console that could replace his that would have a ten in it. they would of course rape him on the price of that and the install price. I looked around and so far can only find a dual eight under the back seat box. Does anyone have ideas what could work or any other suggestions. He is not proficient with fiberglass or installing. I will do the install but I do not have the time to do a comprehensive install that will take days to do. thanks in…

w/out getting into the high dollar range, are components worth the harder install over co/tri axial speakers? I'm getting my lows (sub) squared away now, I got the Avic D3 head unit, so now it's time for speakers. Currently, I got the stock bose and I'm not sure if I've heard a worse 'premium' set up. I'm going to say I have about $200 to work with for speakers

I just wanted to say congrats on building a great driver. If it sounds anywhere as good as it looks(which I know it does) you have a winner. This is hands down one of the best looking/meanest subs I've seen in a while. Its always after I buy a sub something new comes out that I want I'll get one sooner than later....

my car has stock 5.25" speakers in the doors and i really wanna KISS on the front stage, with a 2-way. of course i will be deadening and sealing my doors as much as possible, but right now, i dont wanna spend too much on the mids 70 per will probably be the max for me. I have the seas neo metal version sitting here next to me and a set of aa poly mids. the only problem i think will be the fact the stock grill will ONLY fit a 5.25 speaker and i don't want any bad reflections off the inside of the door panel. I wanna HP the mids over ideally around 80hz, but if i must go to 100 i must. For the amps, i will have an Usamps md42 bridged at 180x2 @ 4 ohms so power should…

  23. I'm looking for a 12'' subwoofer to work well in a .7 to 1 cuft enclosure before speaker displacements. Getting about 1000RMS. I listen to a lot of 80% rap and 20% rock and possibly some techno here and there. I was aiming for a Fi Q 12 but i was told that there are subs around that work really well in small sealed enclosures. I want it to be as loud as possible. I also have had a RE SX 12 in a .6 sealed box after displacements. It did really well and sounded clean but it got pretty warm. I'm just exploring my options. Any feedback on woofers is greatly appreciated! Thanks

  25. It's for a friends car stereo, he's got an all eclipse system with an XA-1000 amp (~500w RMS @ 2ohms) that will be powering a MAw15 in a ~3cf box tuned to 33hz. 14.5x2.5" slot port 24" long. Overall box dims will be 29x16x16. Should do quite nicely in his 99 civic coupe I'm kinda sad it's not for me though lol. Pics when we actually start building
