i hear this thing has great sq... but i'm cuious of its spl also. i'm deciding on new subs now... i'm looking at the magnums, sx or se. i'm trying to save a little money. also... they aren't going for competiton or anything. i'm hoping to spend less than 900 on subs and amps... hoping. but sq is important to me... i'm stepping up from 2 12w3 i want to keep the sq.. but add alot more loud sticking with 12 inch... i'm hopefully getting a 97-99 gsx in spring... and i don't believe the trunk will be big enough for a 15... i'd like to go 2 12s just because i like the look of 2 i'm hearing that one xxx or brahma would be just as good as 2 se. any input... i'm open to suggesti…

Running them off a 100.4 and Pioneer 9800. Filter on the headunit is at a 6 db slope. Gain set around 75 rms, LPF is 2500hrz and subsonic at 200hrz. How do these setting sound? and also vocals can be heard through a speaker like this? Just curious

  3. Not sure if this has been asked before. But I have been considering going with a 15" mag. I know ported is louder. I am just wondering how much or if you loosing power handling going ported. I know that different size sealed boxes do change your power handling. Smaller boxes will require more power do to the compression the speaker is under when it pulls back for a bass hit. Also thinking about going with 34hz tune if I do go ported. What amp would guys recommend for a setup like that and i dont plan on going to a bass comp. But wouldn't mind having the power to show off once in a while.

I am working on ordering some subwoofers for my new boat. I have limited areas and based on my rough measurements (I am going to go get more accurate ones as soon as the dealer has the boat inside) I should have about 2.7 cubic feet per sub before displacement (2 seperate boxes of different dimensions and I may have more like 3 cubes, but am working on the short side based on the measurements I have). I will be powering them with a Exile 2500.1 which puts out 2500 watts rms @ 1ohm (plan to run two dual 1 ohm subs so I can wire them to a 1 ohm load on the amp). I know the Q is 1000 watts RMS and the Xcon 1750. Will 1250 be enough for the Xcon? I have read such great th…

OK heres the deal I went to quite a few audio shops today to price a box for two ported 15's and the answers that i go wasnt the ones i wanted. The only shop that was willing to do the work and told me they would fit is closing for renovation. so now im looking for some 15's that would work great sealed 15's or some that will work good in a small pored enclosure. Like i said in last thread i dont have an amp yet but im purchasing my whole system Monday. the max for each sub is $400...and yea im stuck on two 15's now even though everyone is going to suggest 12's

Want to run 2 sealed. Requirements: 4 ohm final. Take 2000w daily. No ridiculously large box. Reasonably priced.

I apologize in advance - you are dealing with a noob. I think I want to do a sealed 15" in my new car, but I am having trouble deciding which way to go. I have been looking at the Fi Q and the SI Mag. Is the SI really worth the extra 200? Would you recommend anything else? Perhaps maybe even a 12" to go ported with? I am not looking to make major alterations to my electrical just yet either (read HO alt), so I'd like to keep the power handling in the 1000W range. I'm looking for a true LSQ system - I want it to be clean, but get LOUD when I want it. I have about 3 cubes to work with, maybe more if I want to give up some of that golf bag space in the trunk, but I'd like to…

  8. I've been working on my system and slowly becoming more interested in sq than spl. So I guess I'm working on an ""SQL"" system. Loud and clean. Right now I've got 1 15" RE SX. And it sounds decent now and output is good. But I'd like cleaner. I have a friend that's intersted in my sub. So I've been trying to figure out what to get for a replacement. I can do about 4.5 cu ft net ported, or 6 cu ft sealed net. I'd like to spend under $400. I may have a line on a used 18" xcon. So that sealed or one 15" xcon ported, or maybe a par of used icon 15's sealed. I'm open to suggestions. Whatever I get will be powered by my saz-1500d. Or maybe 4 dcon 10's ported…

what do you say to this: Sealed boxes:"Sealed Enclosures are designed for sound quality and offer very low tuning frequencies. If you are building a system where the goal is to listen to music, these are the enclosures to build. They offer the best low frequency performance of all the designs." Ported boxes:"These enclosures will deliver higher sound pressure levels than sealed enclosures. The perceived loudness will be lower than a sealed enclosure, although the metered number will be higher." [ORION AUDIO] i always thought ported box were louder in all aspects. now orion says sealed is louder to ear than ported. how come?? and i simply dont understand the physic behind…

So right now I have an alpine type-r 10" sub in a sealed box. Im planning on buying another alpine type-r, would it sound weird if i put it in a ported box? Or should I just have it match the other sub in a sealed box? So basically, 1 sealed & 1 ported vs 2 sealed whats your input? Thanks

I am running a 12 inch SSD sub sealed in a 1 cubic foot box. I was wondering what any of you fill your sealed boxes with? I remember reading about polyfil and stuffing and am just curious on what this does and how it effects the sound.

Hey guys, so I finished the build for my F150 (Thread "Looking for output in 1.75ft) and I have good news and bad. The enclosure is 2.5ft net tuned using two 3"x15" round ports to what the builder states is 33hz. Subs are a pair of Skar VVX10s on 1100wrms. Well the thing picked up a TON of low end, it pounds out the bottom octave like no tomorrow, with songs like "Late Night Tip" hitting so hard my wife said it shakes her rearview mirror when I'm behind her at a stoplight...lol But that's about it. It doesn't play anything else well. More average bass frequencies (45-55hz I'm thinking) is pretty soft and the kick drums in Metallica's ONE are absolutely nonexistent. I've p…

Hey I'm getting a new car as soon as i get paid this month and I'm planning on getting some new stuff for it. I'm wondering about putting the Qs in a sealed box. Has anybody run them like this or maybe heard a sealed set-up? I'm really just wondering if they'll still sound good sealed up. Its also going in a Toyota 4Runner.

hi all! im a college student that is sick of not being able to purchase high end audio equipment but loves music. So i did a little research and stumbled upon the mj18. I've decided to do my first DIY sealed subwoofer using a single mj18 and buttkicker amp. I do know that they recommend 2.8 cu ft for a sealed mj18, but It looks as if alot of people are using larger boxes. Since im new to this, im uncertain as to why many of you have deviated from the "recommended" size. I would greatly appreciate if you guys could give me some tips, recommndations, and possibly some box dimensions on building my first sub without using a eq. I will most likely be using 3/4 mdf or plywood.…

I have decided to stay away from trying to fit a ported box in a regular cab ranger and just stick to sealed. I wanted to hear everyone's opinion on which has the ability to have the most output in their optimum sealed enclosure with the recommended power. Sub will be 1 12'', here are the options: SSA ICON FI Q SS RL-P SI MAG(new model) Or if there are any other options out there please let me know. I appreciate the help.

I have Soundsplinter 15 in a 2.0 cu ft box. I would like to go to SI MAg 12. I would like to have output similar to a 15 so I want to go ported. How much SQ do u really lose. It goes in the trunk of Grand prix. I listen to some rap, but also some metal, reggae, and even techno. If u seal a Magnum do u hinder some of its marvelous attributes. I will be running Old School Orion( Pre DEI disaster) XTR Pro 1000

Here is the delima, I can either run 2 15" Fi Q sealed in a 4.5 cuft enclosure (net vol.) or 1 15" ported in a 4 cuft enclosure (net vol.) tuned to 30 Hz. Now what am looking for is clean, low end bass with the potenial to get loud. Looking at both setups, which would produce cleaner low end bass. Am not looking to compete or anything, its just a nice low end daily setup for my personal uses. Am also willing to play around with tuning if there is any suggestion. Thanks in advance for the response.

I am getting very mixed opinions about this. I have 2 12 inch ssd's going in a 04 escalade running off of a saz 1500d. What should I make a sealed or a ported enclosure. give me the reason why don't just pick one. What is the biggest difference between the two. It is my first real setup, so I don't know. The SSD's can be in either enclosure.

I picked up some BNIB 10" Clarion subs for stupid cheap. In the owners manual they have box sizes listed for SQ sealed (.5 cubes) and SQ ported (.65 cubes). I've never seen SQ ported box recommendations before. Anyways, here's something else that was in the manual. Sealed: Power Handling-Good at all frequencies Linearity-Excellent Dynamic Performance-Excellent Efficiency-Good Subsonic Output-Excellent Midbass Output-Excellent Enclosure Size-Small Ported: Power Handling-Good above tuning frequency Linearity-Good Dynamic Performance-Good Efficiency-Very Good Subsonic Output-Good Midbass Output-Very Good Enclosure Size-Medium Does this mean that these subs are more suited …

I just bought a 4ohm Lethal Injection 12" (just fried my old Polk momo) for my grand prix. As i type i have a sealed 12" box i got from a random auto shop a few years ago, i'm not even sure the cu'ft of the box to be honest. i'm really just looking for something to show off from time to time, for the most I run metal, but every now and then I like to jar the fillings in my teeth. :-) For the VERY brief time being it will be ran by a Sony XMGTR2022 amp that i've had for years. I'm honestly just not sure if I should go with a sealed or vented enclosure. Any advice would be greatly appreciated i've done a lot of searching and reading on the site and i'm just at th…
