Subwoofers / Speakers

What do you look for in an SQ sub? What t/s parameters and such makes a geat SQ sub. Now I know that SQ is subjective, but most companies make an SQ geared sub. As a buyer, what should we look for in this type of sub?

Alright ive been looking around at subs for a while now and ive kind of narrowed my search down a bit i want to keep it around 400 bucks if i do a single 12" or under 500 for two 10"s (i can buy one at a time). So the drivers ive been looking at so far are the Mach 5 SPL 12 which already has a triple stack magnet. The btl 12" with the third mag and longer coil (no cooling cant afford it), or two fi Q10"s. I like loud bass. I want to hear the words over the bass, but dont mind if the music is flooded with bass (running four boston coax's til i have money for two sets of components to replace em). what is a good amp to go with the 15? i can spend a total of $600 for amp and sub. does ne one have demensions for a good sealed box?

I know that in the subwoofer realm, cone area reigns over power if you're trying to get louder. Does this apply to fronts too? I recently got a new set of comps and I love em but they're not loud enough....well...that's misleading. I'm sure they'll get loud enough but I don't feel comfortable throwing 300+ watts on each side to get what I want. So I thought maybe running two sets up front would give me the loudness I'm looking for while still retaining the clarity of the sound. I'm not looking for perfect imaging and staging because I know having four tweets up front will ruin that (or will it?) As long as its equally as loud in each ear, I'm happy. Will two (or more) set…

I built a 10cu ft box last year with a 12" port 17" long two free ends for a 35Hz tune last year for a guy. He never paid up. He was planning on two Fi BTL 18's and an AP30001D. What is the cheapest sub that would perform decent in it? People around here either don't have money and want me to find them stolen gear for dirt cheap, or they waste it at the local shops and get crap for eighteeen times their value. When summer comes I'll get people beating down my door, I need to sell this box, whats the cheapest subs I can drop in there yet still get decent performance with a cheap 1000 watt amp? i have some kenwood 6989ie 6x9's 4-way and the tweeters on the speakers burned. my question is why are the tweeters burning? i am runnning this speakers on a koiiler 2 ch amp actully i am running 4 6x9's to this amp.two 6x9's to one channel and the other two 6x9's to the other channel.the amp is 800 watts peak. the speakers are 280 peak power,rated power 70 watts.impedance 4ohms. i would really appreciate some info. thanks

Okay the title says it all. This summer i'm going to put my RL-P in a fiberglass box (my first one, and yes I'm doing lots of research now). My question has to do with the compostion of the box. I've heard that nearly all fiberglass boxes contian quite a bit of wood (the glass is usually just for an ascetic front) and I've heard that 100% fiberglass (minus the mounting ring) usually sound really bad or "hollow". With that said, do you agree (considering the glass will he hella stiff, I'm going to overkill this thing). If including wood does make it sound better, do you have any rough estimates on percentage. Is there much of a difference between the mach 5 15" ixl vs the ssa icon 15". I know the mach 5 seems to have a good sound quality and im not really to sure about the ssa icon. If anyone could give me a little more info about them like which one would get louder with a 1000 watt sundown audio amp. Thanks.

Does anyone know where I can get a replacement surround that will fit this sub? It has about a 3" tear in it but the rest of the sub is perfect. I contacted SSA but they wont sell just the surround but want to sell me a complete recone. I have found plenty of replacement surrounds on the web but none look like they will support the excursion of this sub. any help would be appreciated. thanks

I had a set of jl 12w3's sitting around. I wasn't using them because the surrounds where dry rotted didn't want to throw them away So..... I found a kit for them on ebay. Kit came in today... These babies are going in my Honda..

trying to figure out what went wrong with my brother sub. box is 3.85 cubes net turned to 30 hz. Hey guys, so I'm thinking of making the switch to a no sub set-up for awhile at least because the room in the trunk would be nice and I am starting to go away from that whole rap/bass phase. Currently, I just have a layer or two of eDead in my doors that are pretty solid on the actual door metal, but I am sure I am lacking covering up the larger holes. My question is what can I do or what would be my best bet for setting up a good deadening scheme. I've heard to maybe get some quality deadener (second skin or raammat?) and maybe some ensolite, but if I could hear it some more in detail or some tips that'd be great. Found a helluva deal on ScanSpeak D2904/6000-01. Check out their prices at Madisound then go to www.pacparts.com. Click on Consumer Electronics and do a parts search for Alpine Model Number SPXF17T. It will pull up a page with all the parts associated with the sets and you will see the part number D2904/600001. It is the raw tweeter of the set sourced from ScanSpeak and guess which model they picked? It is the same exact specs wise. so im shopping around for some tweeters to be ran by my SAX-100.4 and i came across these... http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=272-110 i dont know much about different tweeters, but would these work for my front end? if so, would i need to take the cap. off that is already soldered on it, and just use the amp Xovers? ill be running them with these or if you know of any other cheap"er" tweaters that are a good choice feel free to chime in

Right now I'm running a icon 10 in a ported box to spec off of a aq1200d. I wanna try another set of subs and I have 2 si bm 10s laying around, my question is will those be louder, running off the aq1200d and a ported box, or will it pretty much sound the same as the icon? I was also thinking about a pair of sealed (no room for ported) 12s such as type-rs or ia 187s. Which route will be significantly louder?

what happened to this sub? and has someone listened to it recently? would love to test it against the MAG or IDMAX or my incomming RL-p

well i could really use some help with my box design.. i ordered a 15 Xcon on monday and i want to start on the box for it.. i have a table saw and router and have built a couple boxes before.. but i am kind of new to this and want this box to sound good,, it will be going in the back of my 06 ford-f-150 fx4 supercrew.. i plain on putting it were my small side rear seat folds... i would like it to be 21x21 then 27-26 tall. ( sub on top ).. i would like it to come out to the 4 cu.ft ported.... they say 26-33 hz..... i listen to mostley rock...hard rock... but i like most music that sounds good.... i love good bass... i am not very good at figureing out all the math...…
