Subwoofers / Speakers

Discuss Subwoofers And All Aspects Of Speakers here.

  1. Hey guys, just bought a double decker pontoon boat and want to throw some Loudspeakers up top for some island parties and raft ups I hit during the summer. I'm shooting for extremely loud and bass heavy (seems to be what most people like) and have a budget of $1k for the setup. I was planning on getting two JBL Eon 15's based off my DJ friend's recommendation but I figured I'd ask here as well. I plan to power the setup with a Honda EU2000i genny (not yet purchased) or perhaps the Ryobi 2000. Also, I'm hoping there exists some way of connecting a blue tooth module directly to the speakers, than controlling wirelessly via phone. Is that possible? Thanks in advan…

As most of you know I unloaded my xcons below tuning and did some damage. Only one had visible damage and I corrected that with some devcon epoxy. Now that they are both back in and playing my wife and I both agree that they have lost output. Is this possible? Could I have done enough non visible damage to the soft parts that they would lose noticeable output? I assumed they might be a little sloppy now from stressing the spiders, but to lose output? Thanks in advance.

Ok so im thinking about cuting holes in my door panel for my 6.5s Apline type R's So i can show the grills instead of leavingthem in the factory spot (08 Pont G6) . i plan on using a hole saw, would there be a better tool for that instead? and if i do that then i think the sound and performance of them will og down without some type of addend or extra install to go with them, especially with that small space between the door panel and the factory location, what could i do to ensure the SQ of them and performance? sound deadening maybe? or what could i put to fill that gap and etc.

  4. Was using 1200 watts, but I'm moving to a smaller car and I'm going to put this in a box that's just below the min requirements. How many watts would this sub need? 300? 500? And I'm talking RMS watts. Thanks

I need a box for a Fi BL 12 sub woofer I would rather buy one unless it exceeds around $150. I would like it to be ported but I'm not sure if it will fit in my truck. I have a 2000 ford ranger XLT and I want to keep one back seat so it can't be to big. Any suggestions on pre-made boxes or if it's truly worth it, where can I learn how to build a perftect box for the BL 12.

I was thinking of buying a 18in or two, or maybe even a 21in DP. But in all reality I probably should just build on what I have. So I was thinking another 2 Dcons. I'm not sure how much louder it would be, or if it'd be worth it to try. I saw Hairyunicorns 6 Dcons, and yeah they looked like they looked like they did decent, but I think his issue was the box. A bit small. I have lots of room for these Dcons, and don't care about cargo space so... I was trying to design a box that would give the Dcons all the space they need, without losing my backseats. But if I have to... that is an option.. The space I have to work with without taking out the back seat: 35" high 51" wi…

As most of you know I am running 2 XCON 15s. The other day I let my player go into a sweep of 20-60hz, obviously way below my tuning. My amps do have a set ssf at 28hz. However, my subs bottomed out like crazy for a couple seconds(stopped before I could run to deck to turn down). Now I am having issues with one of the subs. When I say issues its very confusing. I don't seem to have lost any output, BUT when I watch the subs play its almost as if they are "out of phase" with each other. The left sub is BARELY moving at low volumes and even at higher volumes on steady tones. On some songs it seems to move just as much as the other, but on most songs AND tones it is barely …

Recently I edited some music, and it had a few really low notes. Decided it was about time I moved my high pass up a little from 15hz. Did that and then for some reason decided it was a good idea to reset my gain even though it sounded perfect as is... As I was doing this and I had the gain all the way down and the deck paused, I noticed a fluttering whine coming from my subs. Thought it was a little weird cause I had never noticed it before. I forgot to mark where I had the gain before which was a mistake.. I tried to set the gain with a 40hz tone, but It was hard to tell where It actually started clipping, I was hearing distortion way before I should have. I thought I h…

I convinced myself to go ahead and put a couple subs in my truck. I don't want to have to raise my seat or anything, so I'm going with a enclosure from Fox acoustics designed for my truck. But I still have a couple of questions... I know I will not be able to get ground shaking bass out of two tens or twelves, so I'm going for a sq setup. as for power I don't have an amp yet but I don't want to go overboard with power. 1. should I go with two vented 10's or two sealed 12's? 2 what's a good shallow mount dub to go with for under $300

Well a friend of mine passed in a motorcycle accident the other day, and apparently he left me his truck. It's a 1998 Dodge Ram Extended Cab. I'm looking for a cheap subwoofer recommendation to put a pair of in the back. Don't have much money looking to spend around $100 or less per sub and get a pair. I listen to a lot of dubstep and rap so the lows matter. Let me know what anyone has for a recommendation. Don't worry about mounting depth. If the sub is the right price/performance, I'll just take the rears out. It doesn't make much difference to me.

Does anyone know where I can get a replacement surround that will fit this sub? It has about a 3" tear in it but the rest of the sub is perfect. I contacted SSA but they wont sell just the surround but want to sell me a complete recone. I have found plenty of replacement surrounds on the web but none look like they will support the excursion of this sub. any help would be appreciated. thanks

Can anyone who has had experience using, or heard firsthand, any PSI custom built subs give any pros or cons about them? For the price, I like what they claim, i've never heard one in person however. I've seen stuff here and there, but I really don't put much faith in many other forums word; this is my home forum So out of practice posting; My bad, to be more specific, I was eyeing up a set of Platform 2 15's.

Ok first off no flaming me please. My current setup is two 12" shallow mount Pioneer subs (sealed down firing) and a Hifonics Gladiator amp...wired 750rms @ 2 ohm. My problem is lately I've noticed a smell which I can only assume is voice coil, and I've been feeling like my output is not what it use to be. When I first had this installed it was hitting very hard and clean. My rear view mirror looked like it would fall off, and my ears would ring it was so low. Very clean, no bottoming or rattle and I loved it. But the guy who installed it set the gain by ear and I always thought he just turned knobs to appease me for whatever reason instead of setting where it should be…

Recently purchased an Image Dynamics ID8v3 and built a vented enclosure tuned to 32Hz with 330w from an RE Audio DTS 1000.1. Love the SQ of the ID8, but now wanting more SPL and volume. I have a limited air space (0.6 ft^3 max) and limited mounting depth ( 5.25"). Was wondering if an SD-2 10" @ 2 ohms in a sealed enclosure would have more SPL than the ID8 in a ported 32Hz tuned box? Also, what would be the minimum air space for an SD-2 10" and recommended port tuning at 560 watts? Thanks

Currently own a Fi SSD 18" subwoofer, however I might be selling it. I'm wanting to upgrade to something with a little more SPL. Another 18" woofer since I already have a box that would be within specs for all 18"s I've looked at. I'll have about $350 to spend on a new one it if I do indeed get rid of the SSD. That's without shipping, I'll cover shipping to no matter. So after looking it seems my choices in my price range are: Fi BL 18" ($391.12 with shipping) SSA ICON 18" ($371 with shipping, free shipping through SSA) Sundown X-18" ($350 with shipping, though on pre order for now and would be a long wait, free shipping) Ascendant Audio Chaos 18" ($371.77 with ship…

Currently I have the Alpine Type R SPR-135 5.25" component set, the older model. They are on my Rockford P500-2. They keep up fine with my 18" on most songs, but do fall behind on bass crazy songs. So I was thinking of upgrading to better speakers, as I want more SQ, but still need to be able to keep up with my single SSD 18" on a SAX-1200D SPL wise. I was looking at some pro audio speakers on parts express. I notice there's a lot of setups were people run the 6" selenium woofers along with the ST350 super tweeter. Are these a better setup for SQ than what I have or are they purely SPL speakers ? If I went with those as my mains it would require some fabrication. …

  24. My buddy recently ordered a brand new Fi X 15 without the BP option the other day for me as a gift. I plan on putting it in my girlfriends 2 door blazer. Anybody have experience with the new 750 watt RMS models of these subs? She currently has a VVME 1500 watt amp powering 2 old powerbass M-12's. These amps have clamped around 1400 watts at 1 ohm. I know the X is the entry level from Fi, but it should be able to handle a clean 1400 watts, right? Also, Anyone know the best sub/port combo for a blazer? The current setup is subs and port back. I havent tried anything else in there. It's pretty flat down to about 40hz but below that is a steep drop off. I was thinking sub up …

I am saving to upgrade my front stage and was pretty set on a set of hsk 165 xl's but I have been reading about active crossovers and I am interested. Are there any speakers that work better than others on an active setup? Would I still be able to use these Hertz active down the road? I am looking to keep it in the $600 range but I am also a believer in do it right the first time. Will be placing the new speakers in the front doors of my '96 Accord sedan, powering them with a 300 watt 4 channel alpine and ditching the 6x9's in the back. Any advice or recommendations for a good active setup? I listen to my fair share of hip hop and dub step but when I listen to classical g…
