Im currently running alpine PDX series amps with One Alpine Type R 15. It's nice but not really as loud as I like it. The amps are PDX 1000-1 and PDX-100-4, The sub right now is in a 2 cubic foot box sealed. My question is, will i be able to fit 1 18 inch ascendant audio havoc in my trunk? I will be running the Sundown 1500 for this sub. Any thoughts or better suggestions would be great. Im not dead locked on the 18, I could also consider 2 15's in the havoc series. As you can see I have a 2002 lincoln ls, no spare tire or any trunk material in the car, So the entire trunk can be used. Will the 18 inch havoc be able to perform in this tight space?

Would a DD 9518 on a RF T15001-bd be ok as a daily driver? Don't care much about SQ, just wondering if this sub can take hours of daily pounding. And also, off topic but is port area separate from internal box volume?

  3. Yep yep, I just sent it out a few hours ago. Chad should have it by Wednesday and then he and JimJ are going to try to meet this weekend to do some sealed testing. I was sad to see it go...and it also reminded me of how critical a sub is to a sound system. Damned Audax 5.25's!!

Looking for a quality sub right now for my first system and I'm thinking about a single 12 or 15. Listen to rap mostly when I'm driving but i like to mix it up with classic rock and pop/punk about 25% of the time. I've been told 12s in general are more musical, but will a 15 provide adequate response and accuracy, provided the right enclosure? I'm thinking about an Fi Q or SSA Icon or something similar b/c they've both had great reviews on here...total budget for the sytem(including wires, enclure, electrical upgrades if needed) will be in the $1200-1500 range...not looking to spend more than 50% on the substage(amp and sub). Any big differnces in the size of the driv…

  7. Haven't been here in a while. Had to make a new account since I forgot the password to my old account. Anyway, I bought a Honda CRV a year ago & am now getting around to the audio portion So far I have Ipad Mini Helix DSP 2x PPi P900.4's 1 PPI P1000.1 Beyma 8G40 and Eric Stevens Horns The Beyma's are great, but they start to lose steam around 90hz, so I'm looking for a sub that can extend up higher than most to help in that area. I'll be using the P1000.1 for power & have around 4 cubic feet to work with. I found a 13w7 local for $550, but was wondering if I can do better for the dollar.…

  9. I was scrolling through PE's website last night and ran across a driver that I found interesting. The Fountek FR135EX 5" Full Range driver. First of all, I'm surprised that anyone could get the upper extension to consider it a full range with a cone that large and I'm sure beaming would be a major issue if used off axis. When I look at them though I see one thing they could do that a 3" couldn't which is lower end extension. The only real problem I have with the 3" full ranges that I'm using now is the fact that lower/deeper vocals and other such information is pretty anemic. That requires the midbass drivers to reach up a little more than is optimal to bridge the ga…

Ok..My original plan was to go with a single 12" Q sub. However in my intro thread I was informed I would probably want to look at the BL instead. This is waht Ihave to work with: 1999 Mercury Cougar Looking at about a 1.1ft^3 Sealed enclosure. Amp: Kicker XS100 1200watts I'm aware the Q is rated at 1000w rms. I didn't think the 1200 would be that big of a difference. I read the BL is not a sealed enclosure friendly sub which kind of steered me on a differnt course. Any recommendations are welcome. I'm trying to keep it in the $300 and below range if possible. Thanks

  11. Hey Gents! Could you please give me speaker recommendations for an active 2 way front stage? I want to run 1 set of tweeters where the tape measure is in this pic: 2" OD is probably the largest I'd like to mount here. I would like to put a 6.5" driver in the lower factory location: The direction of the 6.5 is not ideal as it points down and forward, but I really don't want to build custom kick panels at this time. I will be running a Pioneer 80prs HU, which I want to run active. I do not have the 4 channel amp yet, but the Crescendo 800.4 is my top runner right now when it comes back in stock. It's rated around 130w x4 @ 4ohm. $300 is a good amp budget for…

Hello SSA, i recently picked up 2 12" mtx 9500's in a custom HUGE ported enclosure. i have a ext. cab ford ranger and the box is about 6"'s from my roof. the length of the box is fine, but its WAYYYY to deep. i was wondering on what i should do. i had 1 12" mtx 9500 in the sledgehammer ported box and it sounded AMAZING in my truck. i know alot of people say the sledgehammer boxes are hsit, but for osme reason it sounds really good in my truck. i cant find the sledgehammer boxes anywhere, so i decided to just build my own. iv never built a box befor. i have all of the tools to do it and all the materials in my garage ready to be cut. i have a good amount of knowledge when …

  14. ok, so a buddy of mine just bought 2 NS 15 v2's brand new and is getting rid of his old stuff. he builds his own boxes and what not. well i purchased 2 mtx 9500's off him awhile back and when he sold them, he bought a brand new dd 9500G 15 and built a sick ass custom dual ported box for it. i heard he was getting a new system and asked how much for the box because it fits all my dimensions. to my surprise, he said $300 for box AND sub...... only catch is the sub has one blown coil. SO my question is..... do i fix the DD and sell it to get a second zcon 15;) or do i fix the DD and sell the zcon and do 2 dd 9500 15's??? when i do get the box and sub off him (sunday) i will …

When I originally heard the IB3 18's Xmech was "shortly after its 30mm Xmax" I assumed maybe it was 31mm-33mm. So when I heard the IB3 22 was going to have a 38mm Xmax and 96% of the Vd of two IB3 18's, I thought the 22" was going to have a lot more Mechanical clearance than the 18's. But the 22's are going to have the same profile surrounds as the 18's, so the same or similar 41mm - 42mm Xmech. I'm not going to be able to replace my 18's with the 22's. At 8 ohms I already have to be careful to avoid over excursion. I planned on running 8 ohms for the 18's for safety, but 4 ohms for the 22's. The 22" isn't going to work. I'm probably going to have to order a 2nd pair of 1…

I am looking into getting a new set of components and was wondering what all of you guys like. I am currently trying to decide between edi 6500's, jl XR's and diamond hex s600s, but Im up for any other suggestions. I have a budget of about 450 for speakers and an amp to power them. BTW, I prefer more of the smooth sound of a soft dome tweeter, but when i heard the aluminum dome jl I actually didnt mind it all. Thanks in advance. Eric

Once again, these reviews are bassed of mostly first hand experience Adire Shiva - One word for this driver would be "Tight". At the price of $125 for the 12", (the only size it comes in) this is an awsome sub that will make your ears tingle with joy if you like SQ and low tight bass. These work well in ported and sealed boxes, however they generaly like a little larger of a box then other subs that they compare to. There is no one given rms rating for it but anywhere from 150 watts to 500 watts is good, and yes 150 is enough to make this pound. They can be tuned into the high teen's if thats what your looking for. The new MK 3 is a little beefer then past Shiva's but th…

  24. Hey guys. I'm trying to piece together a 3-way active front stage in a friend's car and I need some help in selecting speakers for this application. The car is an '06 VW Passat if that is of help more than pictures of the A-pillars. Planned locations are A-pillars for midranges and tweeters and doors for midbass. Processing is going to be done by a car pc, all software, no limitations there. Power is going to be plenty, 100w@4 ohms for each midrange and each tweeter and 200w@8ohms for midbass. Odds are that the actual install is going to be done by me so atleast the doors will get a good treatment. The main goal for the install is to build a very good sounding front st…

I want to get rid of my factory speakers, at least the front ones for now (in the future, ill get another pair for the rear). I originally intended to go for the alpine type X, but then started digging more choices and ended up with a few recommendations. These included image dynamics, diamond audio, and the alpine type x themselves. Now, I have heard the Image dynamics are REALLY GOOD. Easy choice over the type X. And the diamond audio are just too much ($650 for a pair of speakers are not attractive to me, sorry thats just way over the line). So basically I have narrowed it down to image dynamics. They will run passive (for now), but later I will be using a SAX-100.4 to…
