I am working on an SQ-oriented install and am trying to figure out where I want everything laid out. Anyway, is there any major drawback someone can come up with if I were to fire the subs up (sealed box)? I know the only true way to find out is to try it and see, but the box dimensions will be different depending on the direction (an I don't have time to build 2-4 boxes and find out). Any quick tips or ideas are greatly appreciated. ML

Right there ... oh yeah. Will be running ~ 1000 watts. I'll make the enclosure fairly large - can always take away airspace if need be. It'll be sealed this time around (no way I'm going to try and figure out a port), question remains ... how big ? - Steve

Hey guys, I'm on the market for a new set of comps. I'm currently running some old-school green Infinity Kappas that are good, but it's about time to retire them (they're about 10 years old). I plan on auditioning sets before purchasing, but some other viewpoints would be appreciated. Specifics Enclosure - custom sealed kick pods (will be having them made soon) - I have Q-forms kick "pods" now, but they aren't enclosed - so it makes my current set sound wimpy. Size - 5.25" set Tweeter - preferably silk, but I'm not opposed to metal domed tweets Amp - MTX Thunder 4320 front channels (around 80 watts per side) Music - I listen to dynamic, melodic metal the most, from acou…

I don't have a car yet being 15, but I still love audio, I have a 330rms amp in my room, yes, it's wimpy, but I'll save the big stuff for my car, any recommendations for a 12 that will work on that wattage in a small ported box?

Just wondering what you guys think of the Hertz HSK 165.4 ( this is the 165.3 version though). I found a place here that I could get these for 350$. Are they worth it for a daily driver street beater / comp car? I know they are more for sq than spl (i am trying to pair them with a single 18" Fi BTL). I like to listen to more than just rap and bass cds so i think these should do well with the BTL (which is a monster). I have also noticed that the hertz website says these are only two way speakers but the magazine I have says the HSK 165.4's are 3 way...don't know, kind of confused. If you guys wouldn't pair these speakers up with the BTL, what would you for front end? some…

So Jake and I rigged my sis's ~1.4 ft^3 enclosure and Hifonics Z600 amp up in my car with the BM 12" in it tonight. The amp was something totally different, the sub was positioned different, the box was different, etc - so NOTHING was the same as what I'm used to. That, and my Eclipse's voltage output shocked the piss out of her Z600 - I had to turn the gain down ALL THE WAY and then turn the output down on my HU also. Haha. Anyway, once I got it somewhat dialed in Jake and I began really listening to it. The phantom of the opera song on the Telarc demo CD was the first track we listened to and it really showed how deep that little sucker can get. It dove down just…

Does anyone know if these horns are worthwhile? I'm gonna tell u what i have and what it's doing so if u got any other recommendations, let me know. I have 2 ID 6.5s in the front and 2 ID 6.5" midbass woofers in the rear. They are all ran off of a sundown 100.4 I had first set the HP for the fronts around 300hz and the rears were bandpassed from 50-400hz. When i had it setup this way, the rears were 100% inaudible. I have redid the x-over since then i have it setup something like this- fronts are HP at 700hz and rears are bandpassed from 50-800hz. This makes the music sound more deep and rich-like but because there is so much range lost up front, there's quite a few songs…

Hey guys, Hopefully ya'll can give me some help here. I have two 12" JL Audio W6v2 in a sealed box powered by a Big Bang Planet Audio D-CLass 1250.1 x 1 amp. Subs sound good but been having them since 2005 and want to upgrade to something bigger and with more output. I have not heard the Xcons and those are the subs I intend to get. I am looking into one 18" or two 15's. They will be powered by the same amp named above, and I will be looking into getting either sub(s) into a Khaotik Ported enclosure. I would have this setup in a 2007 Yukon. Question: Will I be better, in terms of output, getting just ONE 18, or TWO 15's? 2nd Question: Do I go with dual 1ohm or …

So after some talking here on the forum, I have a Orion 2500D on the way. I was thinking of putting 2 FiAudio 18" Q's in a Jeep cherokee, box would net about 12.5 total cubes, so a little over 6 cubes per 18". Say goodbye to cargo space.... However I have seen some comparision of this brand vs. that brand... and am at a loss. The TC-sound subs look good, some say(on ROE forum) better than Fi-Q in SQ & SPL, due to higher BL. Yet I have not found many spl test on them, but wouldn't doubt it being possible. The Massive audio WC sub looks decent too, putting up 145.8 for one 12" sub on the TL, on the ROE vids... very impressive, looks kinda cheap though...? Anyways just…

Hi folks and Mark, I purchased an MAW-12 earlier this year to build into a home audio set-up for my apartment, to also match with another DIY speaker project I completed this year. I built it in a sealed top-firing configuration with a separation between the driver and the top plate. The bottom is heavily reinforced and the sub now sits on a square cement plate covered with foam window insulation. I did all this in an effort to minimize floor vibrations and to help prevent too many enemies forming against me while I begin the DIY audio thing. I'll post a picture and a link to see the sub with the other components of the system it is matched with. I'd like to say t…

I thought about painting the basket on my subwoofer. I wonder would preventing the paint to get through the vent windows on the bottom of the basket be a issue when painting the basket of a speaker that is still working. I figured i ask before i try and if it would be bad i would just paint the basket on the avalanche i need to recone.

When I originally heard the IB3 18's Xmech was "shortly after its 30mm Xmax" I assumed maybe it was 31mm-33mm. So when I heard the IB3 22 was going to have a 38mm Xmax and 96% of the Vd of two IB3 18's, I thought the 22" was going to have a lot more Mechanical clearance than the 18's. But the 22's are going to have the same profile surrounds as the 18's, so the same or similar 41mm - 42mm Xmech. I'm not going to be able to replace my 18's with the 22's. At 8 ohms I already have to be careful to avoid over excursion. I planned on running 8 ohms for the 18's for safety, but 4 ohms for the 22's. The 22" isn't going to work. I'm probably going to have to order a 2nd pair of 1…

I've been doing some research online, and I know a handful of people who manufacture and sell subwoofers frequent this forum. So was hoping I could get some info on good ways to approach building my own custom subwoofer. My goal: Purchase all the individual components of a subwoofer (motor, basket, voice coil, cone...etc) and build something nobody else has. My issue: Other than a few sites selling certain parts, or trying to pickup blown subs/recone kits, I can't find a reliable source for buying the individual pieces. This makes it very difficult to piece together multiple subs that are the same. Does anyone know of good places to pickup parts? I kno…

I've tried looking on their website, but it only says "N/A". Would anyone know the Specs? to build a custom 33hz box? My local car audio shop needs to know the specs before they build the box.
