Subwoofers / Speakers

Discuss Subwoofers And All Aspects Of Speakers here.

Well a friend of mine passed in a motorcycle accident the other day, and apparently he left me his truck. It's a 1998 Dodge Ram Extended Cab. I'm looking for a cheap subwoofer recommendation to put a pair of in the back. Don't have much money looking to spend around $100 or less per sub and get a pair. I listen to a lot of dubstep and rap so the lows matter. Let me know what anyone has for a recommendation. Don't worry about mounting depth. If the sub is the right price/performance, I'll just take the rears out. It doesn't make much difference to me.

Friend is looking to buy a sub to put in the back of his Chevy Tracker, with a buget of $100. His goals are strictly output. He wants it loud... He has no idea what SQ is, so that's not an issue. He had 4 12" Wal-Mart Duals at one point and swore they were the best sounding things on the market. He listens to nothing but rap. I will be building the box, tuned to ~33hz for his musical taste. I'm not exactly sure the max volume I can get away with back there, but I know it's not much. I'm guessing a 12 will be the biggest we can go and still remain in optimal specs. He has a 600 watt amp to push whatever he buys @ 2 ohms, or 4 ohms bridged. What are suggestions as to what …

So I got laid off and decided to do a very budget center console sub build for my dodge ram qc. Just looking for opinions, good or bad on the following Phoenix gold rsd memphis pr jbl gt5 alpine type s Also open to suggestions in the $50 - $100/sub range. This is kind of a challenge to see what I can come up with on limited funds, not expecting any miracles. Haven't decided single or multiple sub set up yet, I am sure single would be the popular vote, though not as fun I listen to mostly hip hop, so ported is preferred, but not that big of a deal. The amp will be bought after subs are selected. Any other info needed let me know Thanks for reading Chad

I'm working with 300 x 2 @ 4 ohms. Anyone want to piece something together for me? Single 6.5" mid is preferred, I'll be making baffles for my doors. Maybe four tweeters? (Two per channel) + Crossovers and all that, thanks guys.

Whats involved with making a component set? Somebody told me I could find the parts I'd need on Parts Express... If somebody could explain the crossover would help me. I don't understand which I'd need.

Well right now my mag is in a 4.0 cu ft box tuned to 28 hz. Its nice and clean and gets pretty loud but I want a lil more SPL out of it. I heard if I tuned up around 35 hz it would get a lot louder but my question is how much sq will I be losing? I really dont want to lose too much sq but want it a bit louder. What do you guys suggest?? And in what kind of enclosure did you get your best results?

  16. Well its official. For X-mas I am asking mommy and daddy to buy me another Hifonics 1500 amp and SI D2 15. I already have 1 of each right now but want to upgrade. I plan on giving each sub 4 cu/ft and port each to say 34 hertz? (Wanna score high in comps as well as keep it clean for a daily driver) The whole trunk is going to be a box, the subs will fire towards the rear with the 3 amps (2 sub amps and hifonics 2 chan) mounted ontop the box in a "suspended" setup. (Pole holding up a slab of plexi glass and the amps mounted on the glass). The whole box will be covered in gray viynl to match the gray carpet Across the front by the amps I will have a peice of plexi glass and…

I am starting to build a system for my car and I need some help and opinions on what to run. I want something that is incrediably loud but can be listened to everyday. I was looking at maybe 2 15 SSA XCONS or 2 15" FI BTL'S. Not really worried about the cost. I have plenty of time to get everything and in the military so deployment money helps buy the stuff. i will be upgrading the electrical system as well when I do this. Its all goin into a 2002 monte carlo. Has a lot of room in the trunk. I can run upto a 10 cubic foot box. thanks for the help

I've been thinking about upgrading my system sometime next year. I'm thinking about getting 2 10" fcons when they are released. I should have the space for a ported enclosure but don't want to pay a shop to do it and I think it would be fun to do myself. The thing is that I don't have a lot of experience with wood working. Would it be hard for someone like myself to build their own enclosure? I'm not trying to do anything fancy just a rectangular box. I'm pretty sure I'd be able to get my hands on all the tools needed. Would I need any other power tools besides a circular saw and a jig saw?

I have two 12" JL w6v2 subs. I dont have an amp powerfull enough to power them anymore, so I'm going to run with a single sub for a while. I'm want to build a new enclosure for it... it will either be a sono tube or a fiberglass enclosure. I'm just wondering what some of you JL owners are running a single w6v2 in?? I know JL has some specs on their site for "suggested" enclosures. I've made their slot port before... but I sold it when I upgraded to two subs... and to be honest, I dont think its the best it could have been. I would like to go ported, will most likely used a round port. What are specs you guys using for your jl?? Any and all help is needed. I certai…

I've been doing some research online, and I know a handful of people who manufacture and sell subwoofers frequent this forum. So was hoping I could get some info on good ways to approach building my own custom subwoofer. My goal: Purchase all the individual components of a subwoofer (motor, basket, voice coil, cone...etc) and build something nobody else has. My issue: Other than a few sites selling certain parts, or trying to pickup blown subs/recone kits, I can't find a reliable source for buying the individual pieces. This makes it very difficult to piece together multiple subs that are the same. Does anyone know of good places to pickup parts? I kno…

  21. Hey guys. Just saw this forum. I'm buying a 15" SI MAG D2 in a month or so. I want to design a box asap so that I can drop the sub right in as soon as I buy it. I'm going SQ over all but I want it loud too. Just not at the expense of SQ. I have my box designed pretty much. I was going to go 3 cu ft. And here is my question: for a sealed enclosure with a min of 1000wrms and maybe up to 1200wrms in a TRUNK of a large car (mercury grand marquis) what would be the best size box in your opinion? 2.6 cu. ft? 2.8 cu. ft? LESS, or more? Or am I on the right track with a 3 cu ft enclosure? I listen to rock mostly but rap as well. a lot of classic rock all the way up to death metal…

what is the cutout diamater for the sub, and what would be the cutout diamater for the 2nd baffle if i wanted to have the flush mount going on. i was originally gonna do 3.5 cubes ported, but i would need to do a build in for that, and with no heat in the garage, i am not gonna do it till sping. so i ended up going chosing to go 2.5 cubes sealed.

In the damned school parking lot! Some guys wanted to take a listen at my Magnum 15" so I started up my car and cranked it up for about 10 seconds or so of solid bass to let them see just how clean and loud it would go, and then a few minutes later a cop pulled into the parking lot and got out to have a word with me. He said when he drove by it was playing at an "unreasonably loud level" and that he turned his car around to investigate it. He went back to his damned car and wrote me a ticket for disorderly conduct. I told him that I didnt think there was any reason for me to get a ticket because I always keep it turned WAY down in residential areas and late at night, and …

Sucks that Mach5Audio is leaving the forum. Im personally a little bummed that their products wont be so readily available and discussed on these forums. I am in the middle of an install using their speakers and think highly of them so far. Ive already sent an email to the addy from the notice thread but thought Id talk about it here as well. Just wondering if the MLI65s will still be available? Or any of the other products that were listed? Id love to use some in another install and always planned on buying them here.
