Subwoofers / Speakers

Discuss Subwoofers And All Aspects Of Speakers here.

  1. I'm in the market for 4 new 15-18" subwoofers for HT and music. SQ is my major concern. SPL is important too but only if SQ is not compromised. Of those listed in the title which would you recommend and why? These will either be in sealed boxes with a Q of .5-.6 or mounted in IB manifolds. In either case they'll be crossed and EQed digitally so driver Q doesn't really matter. Efficiency doesn't matter either because brute power is fairly cheap these days. BTW, the Audiopulse is on a one day sale for $348 at PE and the AE AV15's are on their last day pre-order price of $219. So... I need help TODAY!! Feel free to make other suggestions but please explain your reason…

So my system was stolen out of our mini van but the left the 7" touch screen, it was all old stuff been saving this year to replace it next summer anyways. But I got sick of not having any bass so I got 2 Phoenix Gold QX 12" for $20 off a friend and I picked up a Phoenix Gold QX180.2 and Phoenix Gold ZX350 for $65. The 180.2 will run my kappa (witch are running off the deck right now) in the front door and the ZX350 will run the 2 12" @ 2 ohms. Now my question is, if I would build a box for each 12" would it sound the same as one box for both 12"? The reason I want to build 2 boxes and not one, is I'm planing on putting one box on each side of the van and build a amp r…

To make a long story short, since I started installing, I have been playing around with a few idea, and I am going to switch up my front stage. I currently have a set of JL XR5x7 coaxial speakers running off a Rockford 800a2 (Way overkill of an amp for a front stage but it leaves a lot of headroom). My buddy is selling off his set of Adire Kodas and I am thinking that would be a good route to go. The plan is to run the Kodas Passive off the Rockford amp and sound deaden my doors. I am thinking of going with some new type of deadener of the outer door skin called Black Hole and Dynamat on the inner door skin and seal everything off. The only problem is there are no g…

New woofers coming! Details will be coming on a slow but consistent basis. What can I tell you so far? More XMAX than the "SQL", higher power handling, multiple coil configurations, larger coils, bigger magnets, etc. Price? Well...you'll get a lot of bang for your buck. STAY TUNED!!!! :dj:

Okay the MTX tweeters had one die on me last week. So I finally decided it was time to replace them. I was going to use cheap-o wal*mart 3/4" tweets but after seeing they are 10 watts RMS, i knew they would be worthless. I decided to check out some Power Akustics. After picking them up I noticed no swivel to the tweeters themselves. Okay no problem, I can adjust by how I mounted them. I started off with Hed P.E. "Amerikan Beauty". There is a good vocal range here in the females voice, and the lead singer's vopice as well. The first thing I nopticed is on the MTX x/o's they sounded VERY shrill. I dropped the EQ's tweeters level and tweet boost down. The tweet boost went fr…

just wanna know, im using no subsonic and the box is currently tuned to 30hz(until the new bandpass box is built) and with about 1k+ it seems ok, i've never had the guts to turn it up too high though, theres about 1.5kw+ on tap ps. is it true that they are run in with 2.5k in free air before they leave the factory?

I'm looking to upgrade my 2 10" kicker cvx's with something better. It's a 2.6 cubic foot box tuned to 33hz. They will be powered by a kicker zxs1500.1 amp rated for 1581 watts. I was trying to decide between the gcons or the chaos. Gcons are only $183 each with free shipping and chaos are $220 each with $80 shipping for both. I want it to sound good but be loud. Are the chaos worth the extra money? Or maybe other suggestions?

ok so right now iv got a 12" fi bl in a 2.5 cuft box tuned to 33hz. so my next move is to either get one more bl and wire my aq2200 to 1ohm or sell me bl and get a 15" btl. My question is would the btl be a significantly amount louder? is it a huge step up from the 12" bl or would i just be better off getting another bl. im going to be getting a 180a hp dc alt with big 3 done and a kinetik hc1400 under the hood. i will have the electrical for 2200 watts but what would be the smarter option mostly going for a lil louder, i love 1 sub setups and it would be easier to get 1 btl and a single box then another bl and buy a dual 12" box. Thanks in advance Bassheads

Hey guys, my friend is looking to spend about $600 on a new setup. Looking to get opinions on what i've came up with so far.. Sub - SSA Dcon 10". Sub box will be custom ported@32hz hoping no much more than $80. Amp kit will be like $80.. Comps will be MB Quart ONX216 which are $110 on woofersetc.. Now i need a 4ch or 5ch that will sufficiently power the comps and sub and needs to be under $200, but if i have to and if necessary, i'll go to $250 and throw in $50 for him for the amp.. Suggestions? His car is a 2008 Saturn Astra hatchback. He's just looking for a little low end and better, powered speakers than stock. Thanks

  13. Figure this is as good a time as any to beseech some of you for your opinions on the matter of trying to match a few different subwoofer choices with a couple different amplifier configurations... I just recently got a Zed Minotaur III (not II, not a typo) and am so far loving what it has done for my DC Audio Level 2 10". Even after a couple days of use, I know this is an amp I can keep in my lineup for quite some time and I've definitely been bit by the Zed bug as a result of it. Seriously the cleanest, easiest-blending bass I've come across on a modestly-powered setup. There will be plans in the future to add a Leviathan III (or IV if one is released by the time I ord…

  16. okay here is the deal I have the zcon 18" in a 7 cubic box tuned to 33hz and I am pushing this woofer with a SAZ3K. The gain is put to match the radio and I have it tuned accordingly. Every Time I turn my radio up to full tilt the MASSIVE BOOM COMES FROM THE BACK! I dont know what it is but it is pushing a ridiculous amount of AIR through out my car and is making all the cars within a 7 car radius very upset with me. But thats only where the problem starts. The OUTPUT on this woofer with 3k is just so PURE my ears almost cant handle it. but the problem doesnt even start there!!!! HERE IS THE PROBLEM! THIS WOOFER LOOKED AT ME TODAY AND SAID I WANT I DIDNT KNOW THEY COULD…

I am beginning to think I should go sealed with my 15" SSD. Before you guys say no no you'll lose output let me tell yuo whats up. I have an extremely tiny trunk that is damn close to 15" tall maybea little more, i am not sure. I have my sub ported right now with the sub up and port back. the box's height is 13inches at the moment leaving only around 2 inches for the sub to breathe. It cause so much more rattle like this and I was wondering if you guys think sealed facing it towards the back of the car would sound just as good if not better? The reason why I can port it towards the back is because the width is only about 20" from trunk hinge to hinge which cant fit …

i was wondering what guage wire i have to use on a Fi BL 12" subwoofer to wire it down... im sure there is a technical name for this but all i know to call it is wireing it down to 1 ohm... so the wire i will be using inside of the enclosure to run it to the terminal for power and what guage i will be running to wire off the speaker to 1 ohm.... does it really matter? i have i think 14 guage "speaker wire" maybe it mean that i can use it for everything wired to the speaker but i dont know for sure... any clearing up of this would help a lot... thanks in advance! i will be running a 1600 watt amp BTW

Hi, I have a 12" Alpine type s in a vented Bassworks box( pretty big ) driven by a Pioneer GM-7100M (RMS Power at 2 Ohms = 360 W x 1 RMS Power at 4 Ohms = 250 W x 1). head unit : pinoeer DEH-P7700MP I'm listening to Punk Rock, Death Metal, Metal, Hard-rock and a little bit of Dr. D.R.E amd Cypress Hill. I find my bass not tight enough and not fast enought to hadle my music preferences. Do you think that two 8" subwoofer in a sealed box will do the job? Should I use two SVC 4" sub to get the 360w at 2 ohms of my amp What brand and model of subs should I go for? Sry for my english

hello all, i currently have one dual 2ohm xxx15 in a snail shell designed enclosure wired to a bx1500d at one ohm. ive had this setup for about a year and it is very loud and sounds very good, but with this hobby, you all know how it goes; you always want to try something new and im still quite the bass-head.. ive wanted to try ddaudio for years and i think its about time. so, i was wondering if any of you guys would recommend the dd3500 series. ive always been a single-sub kind of guy, but 2 12s sound so intriguing because of the added cone area over a single 15, especially that of the dd variety, though the 9900

I installed them today in the back of the rsx in a sealed box. They are running off a jble 1200.1. So far I havent been pushing them too hard because i want to break them in properly. They are running off the stock head unit spliced into my rear speaker. They wont get very loud but when they do they shake your whole body. They are very accurate and have great response to the fast bass lines. I'll be getting a real head unit next week and be ready to push these to their limits. Sorry for the crappy pic, it was taken at night with a camera phone.

At low volume my subs really hit hard but it seems as if the higher the volume the less of that deep bass i can hear/feel. My head unit goes to volume 62. At 40 i can really hear the deep notes. Should i tune subs for the lower volume and just not turn it up passed that?

I have a single 12 dcon on 400w in a sealed box I was thinkin of either gettin another dcon and have two sealed or port this dcon now and then later switch to gcon??? Either way I have to get a new box sub and amp. Which would be louder the gcon will get 800w rms at least and the two dcons would get around 750-800 aswell
