1. I have been out of the car audio game for sometime. One thing that has always been hard for me about car audio, is it is really impossible to say that brand x is better than brand y and that everyone has an opinion regarding their equipment or product line. Realizing that I also believe that there are products outside the main stream distrubtion that are equally as good if not better for less cost. This is where I want my journey to begin... I have ad 2 12's in a 2004 honda accord refiring. The sub brands were MTX 5000, Kicker Comp VRs, and JL 12w3v2s. (I realize this just dated my last setups......). Bostons for seperates up fron and coax in the back. Amps were on…

I have some peerless sls 10's I wanted to use for midbass in my next three way set up. But there is no way they are going into the doors of my car like I wanted. If I had power windows it would be no problem because the shaft for the window handle would not be in my way. So, instead I came up with an Idea to do some large kick pods that open up into a shallow false floor up front. Which brings us to my question????? Has anyone else heard of and or done something this drastic to get the proper air space for their speakers up front??? If so...Is it even worth it?? Thanks in advanced

http://www.reddit.com/r/CarAV/comments/2qzbmm/500_budget_help_me_please/ <----- old post...... I've came to the conclusion of getting some sundown X 15's or 18's since they're only $20 price difference OR some 12' JL W6's since it's on sale for $500 with the original JL box. i have a budget of about $400-500 just for the subs since i need an enclosure and an AMP that i still need to find... What's the cheapest amp(not some walmart $100 amp that says it powers 3k watts) but a decent one that can power those sundowns or JL's without a problem? I drive a 2007 civic si so i have about 11.5 cubic feet in the trunk so.... what do you guys think? sundown or JL? any other bran…

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_34766_Rockford-Fosgate-P3D4-12.html The styling on that bish is craaaaazy. I just want to know from designer's and manufacturer's how much thought goes into the looks department of a sub, or...any product for that matter. I know there's you "I could care less how it looks, it's all about performance" but to me that's almost never true. Those blue ass "HIFONICS" logos and smooth one piece dustcaps like the AA Havoc has all add to the final product. (Not saying you should buy a Hifonics or Rockford P3 or even a Havoc just for looks) So I just want input from other people. I'll probably get mad hate for puttin the Rockford link, but all th…

  8. Hello! I have a 2000 Camaro with a thunderform 10" sub box (http://thunderforms...._2002/show.html). I was about to get some crappy pioneers but then I came across SSA and am considering the DCON, Skar VVX, maybe a GCON, or something one of you might recommend. My concern is that because the box is so limited (.6 ft3 sealed) if these subs will still sound any good, because I understand that they are engineered to be tuned and be in the right box. I'd be getting a new amp to btw, i'm thinking the Audiopipe APSM-1500. Let me know if you recommend a sub or if you think one of these wouldn't be a good choice for me. Any feedback would really help!

Was thinking about switching to a SPL 12" Mach 5 Audio sub or a Fi BTL 12" ... My question is about the SPL 12", can they be modded to Dual 1 ohm's or is Dual 2 the standard? Also, would I be underpowering the Mach 5 with 2 Sundown Audio 1500D's or would it be just right? I've gotta make a decision, because I would like to be able to pull the amps down to .25 ohm or .50 ohm for competitions and the MTX 9500 12" I'm currently using, only comes in Dual 4 ohm so I'm only able to get both amps to see 1 ohm. Also what would be the best pricing shipped and who do I need to talk to directly on here? Also would this sub be safe to play music on, on a daily basis? Any input i…

I got this off of caraudio.com and I couldn't find anything close to all this news on the "official" SI site. I understand this may not even be the chosen driver, but this IS the driver I want, specifically the Shollower mounting depth (by a full inch!) and secondly but not as important - smaller, more specific enclosure requirements. If this ends up being the new Mag, it means I'll be getting this to stick in my Rav4, which my current Mag was supposed to go into be can't because of mounting depth issues. This also means I gotta say sorry to Fi and Soundsplinter because I think I'll stick with the Mag. Saying that though, This needs to be quoted: BTW, here's the car…

Just curious if anyone here has any experience with these speakers. Everything I've found on google is in German for the most part. The set I was looking at was the SLX 265.20 X-Plain component speakers. From what I've gathered, these are the entry level speakers from Rainbow. Just wondering how these performed compared to other component sets in this price range. I can get the component set for $175.00 shipped.

I've never installed anything other than coaxials in the rear deck of a car... However with my new setup, I'm thinkin of going with 4 Mach 5 MLi-65s. theres going to be tweeters and x-overs aswell. I'm going to be putting one in each factory location. the other two will either go in the pillars, in the dash, or somewhere behind me ( reg cab truck, isn't a rear "stage" useless?) I'm wondering how to wire it up. just been looking at amps online and I'm wondering how it all connects. I have a Pioneer DEH-4900IB for a headunit, and won't be running active.... just a two way component set.

Ive read quite a few different posts on the net and there seems to be an argument with what the correct port area for one of these subs is. Im trying to come up with a new box and im unsure on what kind of port area i need. Ive seen on the smd forums someone said the minimum should be 52 sqin of port, then ive seen the number 38 sqin on other, and also had someone say they contacted sundown and it should be 20 sqin?? This is the only thing keeping me from starting on a new box. Can someone please help me out with this? If it helps, box will be around 2cubes at 30hz ran with a hifonics brz2100. I know its not the best of amps but it is what im stuck with for now. Also thi…

I'm really stuck on this guys please help me out. Which amp do you think would make a really good pairing with the magnum 15''? I want to keep it under 1000 watts so there is no need to upgrade electrical. My budget is $450 and under preferably under 400 though. I've been looking at soundstream rubicon series and the tarantula series T700W amp what do you think of these two amps? Also for cheaper maybe a hifonics 1000W? I'm really stuck please just give me some suggestions to look into thank you very much.

I'm building a midgate box for my avalanche and I'm looking for a good "SQL" Sub. The box is 3.8 net after port tuned to 31hz with roughly 38 sq in port (3-4" PVC 24" long). I'm going to go with a dual 12" set up or a single 15". Looking at 12" Dcons or Gcons if the box size will work or 1-15" Icon. Sub(s) will face the seat and port will be in the bed. Going to run a BRX1600 or BRX2000 depending on which sub. 60/40 on sq vs spl. Need some opinions. Thanks.

Excuse me, When choosing a woofer, size seems be be everything. A 12" sub is better than a 10". A 6.5" woofer is better than a 4". I do understand that the larger the driver the easier it is for it to reproduce lower frequency sound. Can the measure could also be total displacement? Such as a long throw 10" driver can displace more air/space than a short throw 12" driver. I have seen this referred to as the "hit" or the physical impact the body feels. How does driver extension affect the characteristics of sound and performance?

like the topic says, i'm looking to do a budget build. I already have an old 500/1 amp. I'm looking to pick up a used 10w3v3 on ebay for like $110. I want to build a 2.0cf box with a 4" port tuned to 32hz. Question is: is the 2cf box and 4" port too big? or am I still within the realms of "should be ok". I'll be giving it 500 watts. What it's rated at. thanks. PS: If anyone can name me a better sub for around $120 new or used, I'm still willing to listen.

So here's the scoop. I have A 2004 Dodge Ram quad cab that i plan on outfitting this spring, and I am very indecisive so I figure I better start planning things out now. I have learned from this forum and my own mistakes to start with the front stage, so that's where I'm at. Right now there are 6x9s in the front and 5.25s in the rear. I am thinking of doing 6.5 componants up front and just leaving the rear alone, unless it is greatly beneficial. I guess my first question is active or passive. I have never run active, but if the sound difference will be noticebale than it's worth it to me. The head unit right now is an alpine 9886, I do not have the imprint option f…

I'm just curious is all. Looking at these for my application they don't look back spec wise. $ wise is really good for me. I'm broke as a joke right now. Sealed box like .8ft^3 ish depending on where I buy the box. Could be .5 could be .65 could be .85. So this 10" wants .75 so im in the ballpark. I've just never heard of these. Tried the search and 0 results found. Gotta be an error. Are these as bad as the price reflects?
