This is something that I've been thinking about for the last few days. Conventional wisdom says to work out in the morning, as it will give you energy for the day. But, for as long as I can remember, workouts just make me exhausted. I'm fine right afterwards, but a few hours later all I want to do is sleep. After one workout this past week, I had to make a 45 minute drive for an appointment and I damn near fell asleep while driving. On the days that I do end up falling asleep, when I wake up I have absolutely no energy and am usually pretty bitchy (if it's possible for a guy to be bitchy ). Like I said, I've been this way for as long as I've been working out (off …

Well, Mrs. Chainsaw and I have decided to undertake a drastic change in lifestyle. She had a serious wake up call when the doctor told her she had high blood pressure. Here is what we are doing: -We went online and used a Weight loss calculator to plot out our daily calorie intake. -We have cut out fast food and things like fried food( no junk) -She has switched to diet coke(I drink cokes sparingly, but when I do its only diet) -We are keeping a journal of our daily calorie intake and exercise( we are both very busy right now, so not much time for it) -We are saving for a new treadmill or to repair our current one( we live in a bad neighborhood, so walking at night is out…

My pant size went NEAR 50... i nearly crapped myself.. After taking a good look at my lifestyle, it's time to make a change. I started to look into a gym membership, 9Few deals thru work) Soda consumption is WAY WAY to high! During one sitting I could pound 2 or 3 mtn dews like it was my job!.. no good. My question is, a lot of people at my work use the gallon milk jugs and go to town with the water. How much should i realistically attempt to consume in a day? One of my main problems is, i work 4 days a week, so i have a whole lot of nothing to do for 3 days, i'm trying to save up for a new jetski for next season so i try not to spend money on stupid things... emphasi…

I was taking usplabs jack3d, had me pretty focused and tingly feeling. Cellucor came out with the c4 and m5. so after cycling off the jack3d i started taking a scoop of both. pretty much the same feeling, except not as much tingly sensation, lol, and more focus. Like i wonder why i dont take this stuff before studying lol. only thing i've noticed is i stay pretty bloated, per se, the whole smooth look. But i read that i should drink 2 gallons of water a day and it would go away(due to the creatine) slowly have been adding more and more water. Anyone else take anything?

Screw the mind-numbingly boring Elliptical machine. Lifting weights on machines is too repetitive. You need to change it up and start injuring people who have no gym etiquette. They are morons and will always be morons, so they deserve it. Right? Here's a few targets that are in every gym that will surely challenge even the most in-shape guys around... - The nubnutz that drops the dumbells 4 feet above the bench after he's done with his chest press. For him, it's a self-worth booster; for you, a perfect opptunity to work on your right hook! - Mr Upright Row With Wayyytomuchpuckingweight. Give him an upper cut just before his last rep of body-swinging the bar to his chin. …

So as some of you know, i was diagnosed with "terminal" colon cancer in July of 09. I was told i would not see Christmas of 09, but here I am cancer free. I have always been a lifter, of the old school caliber. Eat a ton of peanut butter after a workout, ingest carbs for quick recovery and energy, lift heavy to failure after 3-6 reps 3-4 sets., 3-4 day break. But when I got sick i dropped from 6'1" 230 to 168#. They had me gain to 200#s with a very high protein diet. But I was flabby, and unhappy. I was finally released to work out, with limited core work because of all my surgeries and fears of tearing my abdominal wall and causing a hernia. I had 24 staples from my dick…

So I'm looking to change my lifestyle around on a physical and mental level, and I sold my usual mode of stress relief. I've spoken to many people who really enjoy yoga, but I don't know if it's right for me, so I'm just looking to get some opinions before investing any time in it.

Keeping myself honest by setting this up here. I need to drop a lot of weight. I am flirting with 400 lbs currently and only 6’2. For the first time in my adult life my weight is putting a strain on my day to day life. Up untill recently my lungs heart and muscles have been able to make my weight seem trivial. I even had a recent stress test where they had me pedal and took movies of my heart and measurements after 2 shots of adrenalin and I got 2 thumbs up from the cardiologist. I didn’t feel so great though, but the docs chalked it up to indigestion. The other day though I was going up a few floors of stairs and I was honestly winded. I’ve never really had that …

I made it into the 1000 pound club earlier this year. The 1000 pound club is when your bench, squat, and deadlift add up to at least 1000 lbs. I am 17 years old (18 tomorrow) 5'10" 240lbs. 200lbs bench, 355lbs squat, 495lbs deadlift. I have made much improvement this year. I work out only 2-3 days a week at school in weights class. My agility, endurance, and strength have improved far more than i could say that i expected.

I need some upperbody workouts that don't depend alot on the legs for stabilization and can be done with a leg immobilizer that goes from mid calf to lower theigh. The immobilizer also has steel rods up the back side of my leg that prevents me from bending it. Any help would be appriciated. J

So after reading Dem Beats - Health Check, I am inspired to do something similar. I have been looking for a way to write down my journey, and there is no better place than SSA! I've actually done this before here. I had results overall but was also starving for information and learning along the way. It's 2 years down the road now and I have learned a lot of information, so this time I'm going to try and track my progress near daily and help keep my thoughts in check. Start.... Current Weight - 208.5 (as of right now) *note* I am using my home scale... it is wrong (reads low) but its the best I got so I'm rolling with it ** I started this summer at 215 with the goal of 1…

so i have been working out for the past 2 months, 3 days a week, for about an hour. sometimes i switch up my routine, but for the most part i will do 30 minutes of cardio, and 30 minutes of weights. i have tried running on the treadmill and on the track and i still get shin splints. i do calf raises everyday as well. i am 5'6" 230 lbs, so im definitely overweight, so i know that has something to do with it, but also, i would think it would improve at least a little bit by now. is there anything i can do to prevent these shin splints from running? i have tried to get on a diet, and i have cut back on my portions and i try to have a small healthy snack every few hours, r…

Hey all, I started off back in February about 173lbs, a little beer gut and not a bit of muscle on my body... a friend from work is training me and got me involved in weight training. It's been three months, training 4x a week and completely changing my eating habits I've lost about 15lbs of pure fat, but my main goal is to gain a lot of lean muscle mass. I haven't been doing much cardio or abs so I need to pick up on those two things... tell me what you think of my progress so far 2/23/09, First week in the gym 173lbs 5/9/09, 160lbs

The Long and Short of It: I've always had big arms (biceps, triceps, forearms) because of all the sports and moving furniture and whatnot. I've also got a gigantic head and a barrel chest. I haven't been measured for dress clothes in a while but I plan on getting remeasured over the weekend so I can get quantifiable numbers. Last I checked I was at 42L jacket with like a 7 1/2 hat. I also have almost no bulk or definition in my neck/shoulders/upper back region Basically I want to bulk up the shoulders/traps/upper back area so I'm not walking around like a humanoid T-Rex...thing... so if y'all got any links to detailed neck and shoulder routines I would appreciate it. M…

A little bit of background first. For the last couple years, I've had a bit of a gut. Not much because I was always working outdoors, but a bit. Last year I took a job working in an office with it's own cafeteria, that I would eat at a lot. Combine that with going through a McDonald's phase, a lot of pepsi and a lot of alcohol, I've gained a fair bit of weight. I'm 5'11", and I weigh somewhere around 220. I've never really been to the gym before, never really worked out. I used to ride my bike a lot and that kept me in shape, but then I got my license and a truck. My sister is getting married in the middle of January, and I'd like to be as healthy/light as possible before…

Hi, I have decided to start working out since I pretty much have a set schedule for work and school and can be consistent on a workout schedule, and I feel more motivated to do so. My main goal is really to put on weight, I'm not worried about being super ripped but just want to get bigger. I am ~145 right now and would like to get up to 165-170 eventually. Can anyone help me with tips or advice? I used to work out in high school but that was a while ago, and I only worked out for speed and strength (football), but don't remember much, but I still know my form will be fine.

My roommate pick up an Iron Gym earlier this week. It works in a 32" (or smaller) door frame and is a very nice over all unit. There is no modification to your house needed and is small enough to store in a closet. You can also use it for sit ups, push ups, dips, and of course pull ups. A great addition to a small home gym in my opinion! LINK: http://www.theirongym.com/Default.asp?bhcp=1
