I'm expecting them to be in for tax time. I'll post preliminary small signal parameters for each size based off FEA programs however official T/S parameters will not be posted until I have each size and coil configuration Klippel tested. In addition to Small signal parameters I will have Large Signal parameters list which is what will be used to determine enclosure specifications. Below are the preliminary pricing I am expecting these to MAP for. They may very a bit but I don't expect it to be more than 5 or 10 bucks more or less. 10"= $275 12"= $282 15"= $290 18"= $305

Since Santa Claus is right around the corner I'm setting up a payment plan for the Ethos. This starts RIGHT NOW and ends midnight January 15, 2014. All you have to do is make sure the full amount is paid up by January 15, 2014. Stipulations are. 1) Your order will NOT ship until the entire invoice is paid IN FULL. 2) You pay at your discretion as long as the installment payment is over $50 3) If you want to cancel no problem, I will refund all funds paid minus 10% of what you have paid. 4) If you have NOT paid the entire invoice in full by midnight central time January 15, 2014 I will automatically refund the funds you have paid minus 10%. 5) whenever you wa…

Some of you may know me from the forums or facebook. Long time bass head and have been into audio for 14 years.I do a little glass work and custom enclosures. I'm about to be in my 4th season of MECA, 2nd year with our own trunk classes(finally). I don't really post build logs as nothing stays the same long enough to be post worthy. But i figured id share a little of the last few years. Sbn 13 was the last show i ran the Maxima at, broke the first Trunk class 150 at 36hz. Was alot left in the build and car in general. Unfortunately it was instantly scrutinized due to the rear seat being non folding, a removable plate that sat behind the rear seat may or may not have b…

This will be the first sub I will be building using the frames that I will tooling. It's an ongoing project and I'll update it as it progresses. I'm calling it "Trident" due to the three top plates as shown in the below density pic. What you are looking at is an assymetrical view of the motor with the pole being on the left and the outside of the magnets to the right. From top to bottom it goes. 1. top plate 2. magnet 3. top plate 4. magnet 5. frame (being the frame is sandwiched into the motor it acts as an effective radiator pulling heat from the gap) 6. top plate 7. magnet 8. bottom plate In all the motor is 270mm wide and 210mm tall This next pic is the B intensit…

A buddy of mine in Houston is heading this project. I think it's pretty sweet and wanted to share. Paul came to me several months ago looking for a source for subs for this project. I turned over his contacts to Quentin and the rest will be history. I'll update this thread as more videos come available. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8p9a5kUpWGU&feature=youtube_gdata_player

I didn't have much time to fool with it so I just took some quick pics with the iphone. For size reference, 18 inch basket and 10 inch basket Once I get it together and broke in I have to send it to Arizona to put on a Klippel analyzer to verify parameters and to do AES power rating on it.

Being the season is at its end I am offering incredible discounts on the Ethos drivers. This discount will last until January 15th 2014 and will also be available for the Lay A Way plan. There are a few stipulations for the pricing: FIRST AND FOREMOST YOU MUST BE A MEMBER ON SSA. Don't worry you don't have to be a SSA veteran. SSA noobies are allowed. Just think of it as another perk. You get to join the number one site on the web for knowledgeable car audio and you as a seasoned competitor can bring your knowledge to help make SSA even better. 1) You must like us on face book to see pricing. 2) You must have competed during 2012 and/or 2013. 3)You must be …

I had a sample of this driver sent along with the Ethos production run. I don't have pics of the actual motor yet. When Nick slows down a bit he will send some to me with some group shots off all the motors I had made. This driver offers 22.5mm xmax per overhang method. It will be ~27mm per the typical 70% BL rating. The entire stoke of the coil is covered in aluminum faraday rings. All the way from the bottom plate up to about 20mm above the top plate. As long as prices stay the same I plan on releasing the Beta version which uses open tooled soft parts for $375 shipped for the 12 inch. RMS rating should be in the 1,000 watt range and enclosure recommendatio…

Would there be any interest for a 30 pound Ethos that was around $450 as an option in addition to the regular 65 pound Ethos?

First let me start by saying my enclosure was not built for doing big numbers in mind, its a music box that plays damn near like a HT setup. This is strictly for fun and because the Ethos had to come out because I'm selling it to offset cost of the bigger build. My friend let me use his SP4 that is less than a year old until I pull it all out. The enclosure 3.65cu net tuned at 29hz with 44sqin of port. The amp and power Crescendo BC2000, 225amp alt and two group 34 batteries. Ethos 15 Dual 2ohm (wired at 1ohm) only pulling a max 60 amps of current according to the fluke clamp. SP4 fully loaded Dual 1ohm (wired at .5 ohm) pulling a max 83 amps of current I installed my E…

I'm always getting phone calls, PMs, and emails on "what to use for this" or "where did you get that contraption that you used on that". Well today I purchased the domain name "directspeakersupplies.com" Eventually it'll be a one stop shop for anything dealing with fabricating and installing audio. The first bit of stuff that I will be put on the site will be speaker parts, cones, spiders, terminals, coils, glue, dust caps, baskets, bolts, surrounds, ect. As time and capital allows (have to buy in large bulk to forward savings to customer) I will be adding more and more product. Things like carpet, fiberglass, resin, wire lugs, actuators, plexi, wiring, solder, route…

Just took the plunge and placed the ordered for my Ethos 18" dual 2 ohm. I can't give enough praise to Quentin. This man doesn't know me from anyone and has treated me like I was holding cash in front of him in a store. Customer service like this is rare nowadays (I'm a Regional Director for a restaurant company) and I was repeatedly blown away by his willingness to answer questions that I had and quick response time. I really appreciate his tactfulness and I look forward to seeing his business blow up over the next few months/years. Just superb service top to bottom...thanks again Quentin. Now...I eagerly await it's arrival -Josh

since all the kiddies like videos, here is the Ethos 15 on ~1,750 watts. Mind the jerry rigged set up. I don't currently have a large enough battery supply in my shop to run my power convertor on a large amount of power.

Been in the hospital from Monday till Thursday due to some complications from complex Migraines and some other stuff they are still looking at. The doctors said I can't drive for another two weeks and I'm getting a little bored laying in the bed so if you need any help with a box, drawing a sketch-up, a cut list, ect let me know.

Hello everyone. I was searching around and ran across the 15" ethos and it has really caught my eye. Looks like a great quality woofer and the fact that it likes small enclosures is awesome. I have been wanting a 15" but couldn't seem to find enough room for one because most seem to like 4 cu ft. Now on to my question. I was reading on the dss site that the recommended enclosure is a 3 cu ft tuned to 32 hz. What threw me off was the suggested port area of 75 in sq. I understand all woofers are different and require a different amount, but this seems like a lot. My question is would I be able to reduce the amount of port area by some without any negative effects on SQ and …

Since my truck is still in the works I thought it would be cool to put the subs to good use, since there just collecting dust in my truck. I decided to ask a good buddy of mine to run them at a big Usaci show this weekend. Well the show turned out to be a bust on Saturday and after waiting in line for hours on Saturday, we called it off. He did do a little parking lot pimpin behind the show to help spread the word on the Ethos.he did some demos and showed them off well. Sounds like the Ethos didn't disappoint. He had swapped out some soundqubed hdc4s or whatever there called. Here's what he had to say. "I was givin the opportunity by Steve Mead to test out and break in …

Klippel testing was performed to verify BL linearity. Testing came out good but I'm gonna try a 12 layer coil before I proceed with production. The current coil is 8 layer flat aluminum with 50mm winding width. This coil will work fine with the current soft parts limiting the driver to ~35mm xmax which will take ~2,500 watts rms to hit. However when I get my new soft parts made allowing ~50mm - 55mm one way xmax it will need ~3,500 watts to reach xmax and I'm not comfortable using the current coil with that much power. Below is the BL curve. It is prematurely cut off due to hitting suspension limits. It should remain nearly constant to 37.5mm. Still with the cu…
