Q- you still planning the 18" ethos? I saw in the 10" thread the you stated late this yr, but also mentioned that the 10 would be a different line.

Hey Q, just as an heads up. I'm not really sure if this is because of the first batch of spiders you've received or not. I just know it's kind of been an common thing now, at least between the subs I've owned, along with others I've communicated with. When you move the spiders in an up and down rotation, one at a time, you hear this funny noise. It's not audible during play, and it's not with every subwoofer. I know you've always taken good care of everyone, and don't mean this thread to come across negative. Just informative, as it could be something to look out for in regards for the October shipment. Klippel results are in. I was able to get full small signal results. (ones used when building boxes). But was unable to get complete large signal parameters because their 5,000 watts RMS amp couldn't push it to XMECH. I'll have graphs and parameters up tonight.

I recieved a few sample coils from Precision Econowind to day so I figured I'd post a few photos. These coils are dual one ohm, 4 layer pure flat copper coils. I am expecting to recieve the motor sample in a few weeks. It's been backed up due to the magnet supplier. I also have a custom tooled dust cap being made with DSS (Direct Sound Solutions) engraved into the bottom right side of the cap. If all goes well and the sample is within spec, the production run will be placed as soon as it comes off the Klippel.

  8. So my setup consists of 2 Ethos 15s on a HD-8000 in a 03 impala. First try at the setup was a 6 cube street box with external ports tuned to 39hz. Musically fierce but with a flat response from the lower 40s to 50hz. With a slight peak at 47hz. I metered at 48 sealed on the dash in this round of testing. Typically i run MECA and my car has seemed to favor being open to meter in the past. For a daily guy i could see it doing much better with a low 30-32hz tuning for some good daily listening. Now to try something different i pulled my ports off and made some plate covers. Just wanted to see if i could get a better low end response. It did pick up alot more low end with…

  11. Started by Quentin Jarrell,

I'm getting all of my stuff together to place orders for product to be in for the holidays this year but I am still undecided on which route to go on a 1,000 watt sub line. I have two options that I have priced, one is an MMAG driver and the other is an overhung driver just like the Ethos. Either route taken will end up with basically the same t/s parameters but they are pros to both designs. MMAG Primo pros 1.) Will have smaller coil (power handling still the same) which leads to less moving mass increasing efficiency which in turn will make it a tad louder. 2.) The smaller coil make inductance lower in turn creates less distortion (however would more than likely be…

I have a 99 yukon denali (aka tahoe) that I want to upgrage to 4 dss ethos 18s. I currently have 6 xfl 12s on 7k in a 12.2 cube net box. I have about 7 inches of space between the port and the back door. Do you think I can get 4 18s in this space or should I stick with going 4 15s? Currently I have my batteries and 2 amps behind the back seats as well.

  17. I am going to try to put together the drivers I am working on here in this one topic. I'll try to give all the info that I have available including expected t/s parameters, price, ETA, ect. This first one could cater to the SQ crowd. It's designed to work in pretty small sealed and ported enclosures. It will be available in 10, 12, and 15 inch models. Below is the expected 12 inch parameters. Are there any designs that have been posted for a single 12 ported enclosure? I have no clue as to how to design one. I'm sure I could try myself but would rather trust someone who actually knows what they're doing. Thanks!

  19. I've got three xbl motors I'd be willing to let go for $150 plus shipping. They are rated with an xmax of 24.5mm one way, and a BL of 15 with a dual two ohm coil. You can expect to run 500 watts rms thermally on the coils. The motors have an aluminum shorting ring outside the gap. Below is a pic of the BL curves. Disregaurd the compliances, the motors will be coned with beefier coned ans 12 spoked baskets similar to what everyone else uses. I can give calculated T/S parameters using SpeeD (indusrty standard FEA in loudspeaker design) This photo is what the motors look like. One is black, two are nickel finshed.

Went thru many amplifier changes before the build was even complete.Went from a Atomic 5k to a DD M4 to a Tara HD8000. Used my burp box in another vehicle and built a street box for the Etho 15s. Have had minimal playtime with them but the initial results were good. Tight accurate response. Did have a small hiccup that has had a band-aid put on just to get some testing in and show them off at a little local show tomorrow. So far ive done a 148 flat with them sealed on the dash from 44-47hz which is close to my vehicles peak. Have not done any meca style metering yet but in the past thats where it has typically shined. Going to play around with some more enclosures once i …

Orders are now closed for all Ethos drivers. Estimated time of arrival on the orders purchased through the preorder is scheduled in towards the end of October. We will update customers as we get more up to date information from our suppliers. We are working on getting all soft parts assembled so we will only have to drop in the soft parts once the motors arrive. This will minimize build time greatly. All pre-order sales are final. No refunds will be issued for pre-orders. The arrival time is an estimated timeframe only. The drivers could arrive earlier or later than expected. Due to unexpectedly high sales volume we have sold 90 percent of the Ethos motors ordered…

A production motor was air mailed to me so I coned it to a 15 and will be breaking it in over the next week to send out for klippel testing and power confirmation. I tested it with a DATS system and got some crazy numbers that just aren't physically possible so after it's broke in I'll just do the measurements by hand. I'm happy with it however the chrome is not as dark as I was expecting (I wanted black chrome) but it's much more durable than the black epoxy paint that was on the original sample. The below pics are a 15 and it weighs 61 pounds for those of you planning on 8 of these in a Scion. No cone shots as I just used plain dust caps. My custom tooled caps won…

I'm think of running some Ethos subs in my truck. I have about 8~ cu ft to play with and an SAZ-3500v2 for power. Would running 4 12s on that amount of power be a waste versus just running 2 15s or would there be anything to gain?

Yeah, that was a pretty bad Topic Title. He he. My bad. Any ways, I took advantage of the DSS deal, picking up a few woofers, and man are my arms tired..... Enough with the bad jokes, here are some pics. I was a little worried about that one box, but everything checked out good. All lined up and ready for action. A couple of motor shots. Not my best work, but still and impressive sight. This will be the first time I run four subs in a single setup. Stay tuned for a build log coming to a forum near you. These subs look great. A+ build quality. All the glue joints look solid with no excess glue. No weak spots were revealed when pushing up from the ba…
