  1. Since my truck is still in the works I thought it would be cool to put the subs to good use, since there just collecting dust in my truck. I decided to ask a good buddy of mine to run them at a big Usaci show this weekend. Well the show turned out to be a bust on Saturday and after waiting in line for hours on Saturday, we called it off. He did do a little parking lot pimpin behind the show to help spread the word on the Ethos.he did some demos and showed them off well. Sounds like the Ethos didn't disappoint. He had swapped out some soundqubed hdc4s or whatever there called. Here's what he had to say. "I was givin the opportunity by Steve Mead to test out and break in …

Quentin I was wondering if the run of ethos that are coming in October will have any changes compared to the previous Ethos. I know you had talked about and showed pics of the new surrounds, will those be used on the ones built in October. Is there any other planned changes, Also what is the cost for dual leads instead of single leads? Thanks in advance for the info.

I recieved a few sample coils from Precision Econowind to day so I figured I'd post a few photos. These coils are dual one ohm, 4 layer pure flat copper coils. I am expecting to recieve the motor sample in a few weeks. It's been backed up due to the magnet supplier. I also have a custom tooled dust cap being made with DSS (Direct Sound Solutions) engraved into the bottom right side of the cap. If all goes well and the sample is within spec, the production run will be placed as soon as it comes off the Klippel.

I need help creating a product list for Direct Speaker Supplies to carry. I already have just about everything to recone subwoofers on its way. The problem is I have accounts with just about every distributor you can think of and combined they have tens of thousands of parts. So I'd like to know if there is a special item that you would need. Maybe something no one else carries or they do and it's just too expensive. For example maybe you would like to purchase the really nice high nap carpet I use on my enclosures. Give me a list of what you think would be priority, that must have hard to get item. NOTE I WILL NOT BE CARRYING ANY PRODUCT LIKE AMPS OR SPEAKERS (B…

  10. I've got three xbl motors I'd be willing to let go for $150 plus shipping. They are rated with an xmax of 24.5mm one way, and a BL of 15 with a dual two ohm coil. You can expect to run 500 watts rms thermally on the coils. The motors have an aluminum shorting ring outside the gap. Below is a pic of the BL curves. Disregaurd the compliances, the motors will be coned with beefier coned ans 12 spoked baskets similar to what everyone else uses. I can give calculated T/S parameters using SpeeD (indusrty standard FEA in loudspeaker design) This photo is what the motors look like. One is black, two are nickel finshed.

For those of you that want a driver specifically designed for fourth order bandpass enclosures I am looking at offering this option. As long as I don't have to add mass to the moving assembly to achieve desirable frequency response it will be a free of charge option. Details later today.

My first impression, was holy shit these are heavy! I had help, but carrying four of those bastards up to the apartment on the second floor was extremely heavy on the back Lmao. The suspension seems very stiff right now, not 300 pound man can sit on it stiff, but pretty stiff. The assembly seems very well built. No excessive glue, all magnets are aligned, the packaging omg the packaging! Definitely check all corners on that. Coil looks nice and shiny, and the leads seem to be also in top notch shape as well. All in all, everything seems great as far as visual is concerned.

Klippel results are in. I was able to get full small signal results. (ones used when building boxes). But was unable to get complete large signal parameters because their 5,000 watts RMS amp couldn't push it to XMECH. I'll have graphs and parameters up tonight.

Well I have had the car for a few weeks now and I'm really missing the low end. I was discouraged after looking at the trunk because it looked much smaller than my I30 and I had just assumed that the enclosure that I had for the 15" Ethos would not fit. Turns out for once I got lucky and it fit in the trunk like it was made for it! Here is the car it will be going in sitting next to my other baby... And the enclosure that has been collecting dust for months that fit in perfectly... I should be getting everything in and running within a week or two, and finally get to hear this DSS Ethos in action! For now everything will remain stock except for the sub, b…

Got a few samples today of some material we plan on testing to see if it offers any advantages in heat transfer in motors, and if it has any value as a faraday ring. The silver pieces are aluminum and the copper colored is copper.

  25. Started by Quentin Jarrell,

I have modeled several enclosures below the show the difference between large signal and small signal T/S parameters. To gather large signal parameters we use what klippel calls LSI (Large Signal Identification). The following is Klippel's definition of LSI: LSI modules measures the linear, nonlinear and thermal parameters of transducers operated in free air or in a sealed or vented enclosure. The transducer is operated under normal working conditions (vertical position and fixed clamped in a laser stand or enclosure). Starting in the small-signal domain the amplitude is gradually increased up to limits admissible for the particular transducer. The maximal amplitude …
