I need help creating a product list for Direct Speaker Supplies to carry. I already have just about everything to recone subwoofers on its way. The problem is I have accounts with just about every distributor you can think of and combined they have tens of thousands of parts. So I'd like to know if there is a special item that you would need. Maybe something no one else carries or they do and it's just too expensive. For example maybe you would like to purchase the really nice high nap carpet I use on my enclosures. Give me a list of what you think would be priority, that must have hard to get item. NOTE I WILL NOT BE CARRYING ANY PRODUCT LIKE AMPS OR SPEAKERS (B…

I'm always getting phone calls, PMs, and emails on "what to use for this" or "where did you get that contraption that you used on that". Well today I purchased the domain name "directspeakersupplies.com" Eventually it'll be a one stop shop for anything dealing with fabricating and installing audio. The first bit of stuff that I will be put on the site will be speaker parts, cones, spiders, terminals, coils, glue, dust caps, baskets, bolts, surrounds, ect. As time and capital allows (have to buy in large bulk to forward savings to customer) I will be adding more and more product. Things like carpet, fiberglass, resin, wire lugs, actuators, plexi, wiring, solder, route…

I have modeled several enclosures below the show the difference between large signal and small signal T/S parameters. To gather large signal parameters we use what klippel calls LSI (Large Signal Identification). The following is Klippel's definition of LSI: LSI modules measures the linear, nonlinear and thermal parameters of transducers operated in free air or in a sealed or vented enclosure. The transducer is operated under normal working conditions (vertical position and fixed clamped in a laser stand or enclosure). Starting in the small-signal domain the amplitude is gradually increased up to limits admissible for the particular transducer. The maximal amplitude …

The below are the Large Signal Parameters tested per a klippel analyzer performed by Patrick Turnmire with Redrock Acoustics. For those who do not know what large signal parameters are, they are Thiele Small Parameters of the driver with a large enough signal to excite the cone to normal operating conditions. These are used instead of typical small T/S parameters because they more accurately represent the driver. When the driver is under power at large excursions the parameters can shift a great deal making small signal parameters not an accurate representation of the true nature of the transducer. Later when I get time I will also post small signal parameters to comp…

As the title says I am looking for competitors to do R&D on a large SPL driver. For testing purposes only one driver will be available in either a 12, 15, or 18. This is a very large driver weighing about 105 pounds. Below is a comparison picture of the driver's coil next to a Ethos and FI BTL N3 coil. The coil is 95mm long 3 inch 8 layer dual one ohm coil with an Re of .9 ohms per coil. The coil produces a BL of 51.5 and a motor force factor of 1,484. I am looking for a seasoned competitor with a few years experience preferably someone that has attended nationals a few times. If you are interested send me a PM with your info.

I had a sample of this driver sent along with the Ethos production run. I don't have pics of the actual motor yet. When Nick slows down a bit he will send some to me with some group shots off all the motors I had made. This driver offers 22.5mm xmax per overhang method. It will be ~27mm per the typical 70% BL rating. The entire stoke of the coil is covered in aluminum faraday rings. All the way from the bottom plate up to about 20mm above the top plate. As long as prices stay the same I plan on releasing the Beta version which uses open tooled soft parts for $375 shipped for the 12 inch. RMS rating should be in the 1,000 watt range and enclosure recommendatio…

I will be offering a three year warranty on DSS drivers and I need a way to track them so a sticker with a serial number will be placed in the rebate on the rear of the motors to hide the tool mark from being turned on the lathe. The below logos are what I have been working on (be gentle it's my first time using Corel). Which one do y'all prefer? The blue will be a royal blue and the white will be brushed aluminum.

For those of you that want a driver specifically designed for fourth order bandpass enclosures I am looking at offering this option. As long as I don't have to add mass to the moving assembly to achieve desirable frequency response it will be a free of charge option. Details later today.

since all the kiddies like videos, here is the Ethos 15 on ~1,750 watts. Mind the jerry rigged set up. I don't currently have a large enough battery supply in my shop to run my power convertor on a large amount of power.

A production motor was air mailed to me so I coned it to a 15 and will be breaking it in over the next week to send out for klippel testing and power confirmation. I tested it with a DATS system and got some crazy numbers that just aren't physically possible so after it's broke in I'll just do the measurements by hand. I'm happy with it however the chrome is not as dark as I was expecting (I wanted black chrome) but it's much more durable than the black epoxy paint that was on the original sample. The below pics are a 15 and it weighs 61 pounds for those of you planning on 8 of these in a Scion. No cone shots as I just used plain dust caps. My custom tooled caps won…

I'm at a standstill waiting on parts for my Matrix so I decided to start a small install in my Civic. I'm not sure what the entire system will be but the sub will be a 10 inch MMAG sample that is on it's way. It'll be mounted in the the rear deck in a .4 cubic foot sealed enclosure. I'm in the process of making a users manual for the Ethos line. In the process of gathering all the technical information I tend to leave out the obvious. So help me out by listing everything, no matter how obvious, that you would like to see in the users manual. THANKS

Spent a little time today on a possible 10" and 12" driver for the folks with limited mounting depth. Any possibility of building this driver will depend on the cost of manufacturing. It would use a 8 layer alluminum coil. Be around 600 watts rms. And has motor breaking on both the outward and inward stroke. By looking at the model you can see the motor does not have any outter assembly. No outside top plate or magnets. It uses the flux path of the inner neo magnets alone to create the flux gap that the coils rides in. This use of the magnets also creates the motor breaking. This allows me to put the entire motor inside the basket and attach the spider to the bo…

I am going to try to put together the drivers I am working on here in this one topic. I'll try to give all the info that I have available including expected t/s parameters, price, ETA, ect. This first one could cater to the SQ crowd. It's designed to work in pretty small sealed and ported enclosures. It will be available in 10, 12, and 15 inch models. Below is the expected 12 inch parameters. All parts for the Ethos have been ordered and I'm expecting them to be in around 3 months. ETA will depend on if all of the parts leave China before Chinese New Year. So to be on the safe side I expect them to be in Mid to late March. For this order only 12 inch and 15 inch drivers will be available. Terms of presale are as follows. -prices are shipped to the lower 48 12 driver dual one and dual two $300 15 driver dual one and dual two $310 -preorder sales are refundable. I have already paid for the parts and they have been ordered. This presale is to only gauge interest not to use your money to purchase the parts. Any returns will be subject to a $25 refund fe…
