  1. Yep, that is what I need to do. Work warning yummy titties are shown! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXpO2wKTzws

It's not over 100% efficient. I don't care what marketing BS the designer wishes to spread. All it does is trade-off lower peak current draw for higher continuous current draw. It's still drawing the power from the electrical system to supply the capacitor bank, it's not a generator that creates it's own power. Only difference between this and a standard amplifier is that on large musical peaks it utilizes the capacitor bank to decrease the peak current draw from the electrical system, however the downside is that the current draw is going to be higher during non-musical peaks because it then has to recharge the capacitors. So yes, you will still need a very hefty electrical system since the continuous current draw from the electrical system will be extremely high compared to a standard amplifier. The reason it only has 1 set of 1/0 gauge inputs is because it's peak current draw is 350A. But again, that's peak current draw and says nothing about the increased continuous current consumption from the electrical system. When a "normal" amp nearly stops drawing current because the music stopped, this thing is going to continue drawing large amounts of current to recharge the caps. Again, it's a giant capacitor, not a generator. It doesn't create power, it stores it. It needs to get that power from somewhere, which is the electrical system. Also calling it a 15kw "RMS" amplifier is a bit of a mistruth. Based on the capacitors, it can only supply 15kw for 16 seconds before the capacitor bank depletes. It's actually a 4kw RMS amplifier with 15kw "burst" power, not a true 15kw continuous power amplifier.

If you are happy there is no reason to change. Sometimes curiosity can break your wallet.
  4. well yesterday, i was getting ready to drop off my designs and a sheet of birch wood to the local audio shop (does great custom work) and recieved a call from my dad asking if i was doing anything tonight. long story short, he said he would help build the box with me to save me money and time. so i said what the hell, might as well lol. here are a few pics and a short vid. of what it looks like so far. P.S. thanks again allen for the awesome design! and also a big thanks to derek at lowes for making all the cuts for me and saving me 2hrs!
  5. I am thinking some handles and s little muscle.
  6. Yeah this is not something that impresses ME. But as I said earlier do what makes YOU happy. Oh nah, I didn't mean it like "subsonics r bettar!" I was just saying that's why I like it. People ask why tune so low and that's my answer. BTW, Sorry if I'm interpreting your post wrong, the internet sucks. Yeah sometimes it is hard to covey things through text. I do see your point I am just stating my thoughts no more no less. My buddy was tuned pretty low and it is trippy seeing everything move and not being able to hear anything.
  7. Super low tuning is something you have to experience. Dropping into the high teens at full volume is fun as hell, especially when you don't have to explain to people how low it is. They just feel it and make crazy ass faces lol. The best part is when you can feel it and see the car flexing in and out but you can hardly hear anything. Some people don't think that's important but I'd love my setup a lot less if I couldn't do that. ANYWAY, sounds like a cool project. My dad just thinks I'm burning up my electrical system....

Not sure I agree on sub sections, then you might as well keep some semblance of the new. I like for sale threads that include all sorts of things. Perhaps you could have a tag system so you could tag the thread in subsystems, but don't make it too many. h/u & proc amp speakers sub
  9. Yeah I noticed that too, I think it is just the camera playing tricks. As far as Home Depot's cuts it just depends on who is working at your local store. Some are great and some just don't care.
  10. If you've never tuned that low your missing out!!!!! It's awesome
  11. I had an enclosure tuned to 26hz before and loved it, to each its on I guess. Yeah do what makes you happy, you're the one listening to it not me. I just personally don't see the point of tuning THAT low in a car.
  12. Nice work man! 26hz is very low though.

Welcome, your uncle has been a huge addition to this site, and people really get a kick out of his videos. Looking forward to your install.

This weeked I competed in my first two seriosu competitions, everyone was super impressed with the whole setup. I was browsing the MWSPL site and found this written by Steve the guy who runs things at MWSPL. Oh Yeah Team Sound Solutions Audio!
  15. ficaraudio.com simple google search would have answered the same
  16. Most amps use the initial gain setting at the amp and the bass knob acts as a remote level control. I don't have first hand experience with crescendo but to my knowledge that is how it should be and I'd be willing to bet that your gain is set too high on the amp.
  17. How do you know that your pair is seeing 3k? I don't doubt that they could take it for burps or demos but running that much power daily is going to result in the sub/subs failing. That much power on a 2.5" inch coil is pushing it. The sa's are badass I'm not arguing about that at all.
  18. This whole thread is a joke.
  19. Oh fuck what do I do! I ordered zcons and I don't know how much power I need!

Zcons are taking trophies all over the country every weekend it seems.

As a college kid...I heard that shit... Get a nice car or something...
  22. Got an olympic bar and 250 lbs in plates for $125 today.
  23. The RMS rating doesn't have much to do with anything. Atleast not as a determining factor on which driver to purchase. Without T/S can't tell you how it would do in a house or what enclosure to put it in for that purpose. What's your budget, what are you looking for performance wise, what do you plan to power it with, and how much space are you willing to allocate?
  24. I'm running two 12" E series on a SAZ-10,000 Takes them all day. Begging for more power.
  25. support your favorite forum and get Zcon

The SSD is an excellent sub woofer, ESPECIALLY for the money, no getting around that. Now, it does sit a power class up from the Gcon (as power is an easy way for people to classify different sub woofers). The specs on the two drivers show the differing intention. The Gcon is somewhat similar the the original Icon. Both drivers are top notch choices, just need to clarify your goals based off of your power, space, music etc.

lol over a 100%... that would mean it makes its own electricity some how!!...
  29. Have to get a white suit then too Brad. Fucking love it.
  30. And with strength comes lively resonances. Everything is a trade-off. There is something particularly great about paper. Doesn't mean that the sex appeal of CF doesn't exist.
  31. I would be interested in a cap if they were available separately. Unfortunately I don't need any subs at the moment
  32. Question #1- depends on your enclosure size, enclosure type and tuning Question #2- Most people i've seen on here run speaker wire to their zcons. Some others run DMMs to them when they screw them up and others run CA glue on them when they are rebuilding them. Question #3- I can't answer this one.. just gotta sit back and watch Titanic a couple hundred times back to back and then.... They'll be there.
