If you keep the number of variables (system components) low, it's way easier to dial in. Believe me I used to love throwing shit in the signal chain because it's "cool" or it does that one additional thing, but if you're buying equipment to make up for other equipments flaws, where did the problem really originate?
  2. Thanks Aaron. It just so happened the designs you sent me fit the application very well. Small ported design.
  3. Looks really solid. Is this from my suggested specs on the site or the 3D model?
  4. Looking solid so far sir! Way to break in the new workshop.

Adding an eq without an actual anomaly to attack is a waste of time. The only Clarion eq's I've seen are also pretty pointless.
  6. I need one of these to have hanging around myself. Love the shop,if I had one the wife would have to beat me out of it...lol
  7. Thank you. I would build for anyone that buys an SSA sub or sub from the SSA store locally. If you lived closer I would fix you up.
  8. First box build under way. 12" ICON 1.9 cubs at 32hz. MDF dust is the worst! All cutting is done outside!
  9. First box build for an ICON almost done.
  10. Been spending a lot of time under my favorite tree... About 60 yards down range... I can bush hog my field in the back and get a nice 250 yards, but then I am in the wide open sun and heat. Under my tree it has been over 95 for weeks, in the sun it has been brutal. Shooting from the sled This is my 100 yard shooting line.
  11. dont read these if you get offended about political jokes. but i think most may find this humorous
  12. if only commercials in america were like this lol
  13. My first guess would be a lose power wire behind the head unit. More specifically the red wire. Would clear all your presets if it was a ground or yellow wire. Possibly a loose shitty connection. Could be a poorly installed crimp connector, or a poor connection on one of the plugs themselves. The poor connection would be likely to poor wire routing, pulling or pushing on a plug. Not necessarily the plug itself. I would hope it's that simple for you, because it could turn into an electrical gremlin after that. Lol

Definitely a day and age where features are much more important than anything else as long as it is a reputable brand. Don't worry about the 4v outputs though as those days are about 20 years past. Amps these days have such low thermal noise you can gain them up a bunch to compensate and not have negative effects. Even on budget amps.

wich would be better all around for the sub? a bigger or smaller enclosure?in your case the manufacturer's recommendation
  16. Budget does not help keep up. That us all install. Better to focus on how than what
  17. 3 way passives in odd locations are generally lame. As for where the 2 way will sound best is up to your ears. Fixing the bs stock mounting locations will be the biggest thing you can do.
  18. Wedge, square, sphere whatever it doesn't matter. As for depth, no way in hell you are multiple inches short.
  19. This one is simple once you consider wood for both sides and excursion clearance. Short by a country mile.

Depends on the goals. Why not put in the recommended and compare them. It will tell you more than we can and give you the opportunity to ask better questions

Muddy has nothing to do with ported/sealed and everything to do with an install/design issue. I didn't ask you to model what you think is a box and compare, but the recommended. Modeling and using some generic "optimal" setting will only give you fail.
  22. Better ways to spend your money
  23. If I were putting $1600 into a front stage it sure the fuck wouldn't be an $800 amp and 2 sets of $350 components. Can't think of a worse way to spend it actually. $800 amp $700 comps $100 installation BOO! And even if you were nutso and had $3200 and put $1600 more into the installation it'd still be a far cry from what you should do.
  24. If you truly want what you say you want I wouldn't pick any of them...but I also wouldn't really be so worried about the sub end of things.
  25. You don't need 3kw for a pair of 12's in fact you'd probably not hear a difference compared to 1500w. You are looking at your budget strangely. Should include a budget including for the enclosure and everything

If you are so concerned be more careful. All that being said, learn from it and don't do it again.

You mean bandpass? That wouldn't be optimizing anything other than the lack of a reasonable frequency response. If anyone offers you a ratiohey are an idiot...

The trade-offs are nasty. As a design a BP surely has a place but is BY FAR the most misused alignment in car audio. Anyone whoever has built one with modelling is pretty much retarded.

And there are other web forums filled with morons building bandpass enclosures for all the wrong reasons. They have power like your friend and the results are loud, but could be way better if they had a rudimentary understanding of audio. Pretty much more than 90% of BP designs are fucked up bad on car audio forums. Maybe higher. By fucked up I mean a pointless waste of wood. It is also obvious who they are as they call BP enclosures 4th orders. A standard ported box is also a 4th order. Sort of tells us who has been leading you. Beware what you think you know from where that is as most of it is wrong.

Since you are asking me personally what I'd do I can answer. I'd never, ever, ever build a box for demos. I build a box to play music for me in the drivers seat. Could care less about anyone else and what they think of my system. If it satisfies me that is great. Now more importantly, in order to do this I'd model what I want and then build based on what that tells me. Of course I'd also do this WAY before buying anything. I despise bloated bass. Not that I don't like bass, but being a bass & guitar that part should be obvious. I want it to accurately reproduce the recordings I listen to and nothing more. And if I drove a QX56 there is no way in hell I'd ever recommend a 4th order BP. No reason I can think of that it would make sense for.

Bass is super easy the front stage is what is hard. I'd spend more on the fronts thanthe rears
  32. Nobody thinks anything until you measure. A mocked up box is even better as somehow measurements and reality don't normally equal out for those that ask the question you just did.
