  1. The money is going to be well worth the finished product. I want to thank everyone who has commented on this build. We did get the headliner in today which I forgot to take pictures of because another buddy showed up with his new toy. Fully suppressed AR-10 with thermal optics. Needless to say the afternoon was shot after that showed up.
  2. There is a gentleman in Nebraska that does classes on how to rebuild and use them.
  3. One awesome project! I would love to be a part of a total build like this. Amazing pics, one sweet ride, THANK YOU for sharing this with us!
  4. Then we got busy.
  5. The Evil mids can already do decent midbass duty in IB. However, if they respond in a ported enclosure the same way the woofers for my Bravox CS603CF component set did then I would HIGHLY recommend it! Like the woofers in my component set the Evil mids are xmax limited. When I was testing mine I was able to move them into the realm of over excursion and heard the coil former lightly find the back plate on a few occasions. The ported enclosures are .5cuft and tuned to 65hz. They allow the Bravox woofers to play very solid down to around 45hz (thanks to the DSP and the crossover controls available within) making it so every drum beat, bass guitar riff, and anything else that falls within its frequency range is felt every bit as much as heard. We ran it without a subwoofer for nearly a year because it didn't really need one on most material that we played. I have plans to drop the Evils in the doors to see how they perform in that alignment but I've not been able to get around to that work just yet. I would still highly recommend at least building a quick temporary enclosure just to test them out and see how you/him like them in a ported enclosure.
  6. I want a power hammer that isn't already in my pants.*
  7. Interested in seeing more pics for the evil mid enclosure you posted. It looks like you have a lot of volume if needed. Have you guys considered porting the evil mids?
  8. I could sit back and listen to those pipes all day long. I bet they sound like ear candy !!!
  9. Looks like it just rolled off the line! Polished gem for sure!
  10. Can't go wrong with port firing same direction as the sub. K.I.S.S. method
  11. The entire thing looks fantastic!!! There's been a ton of time and money spent on this build.
  12. Ive seen good results with sub up port up.
  13. The exhaust looks fantastic!
  14. This car really looks in good shape, after that cleaning. I like what you are doing. Tuned in...
  15. Looking good Sean, I love the way those amps look. My order came today.
  16. I loved both my Icon and Xcon... You'll definitely love the Icon man.. Great output even sealed
  17. "The Xcon is an Icon on steroids": I liked this one.
  18. I was out before they started plowing today. Lots of fun before the roads get messy.
  19. ^ +1 to what Shogen said. I would assume you've not heard SSA equipment used properly, or had a bad experience? First couple of hits on a google search: http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/topic/46475-w7-vs-xcon/ http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/topic/28567-12-jl-w7-d3-vs-12ssa-icon-d2/ There's a reason why the Icon and Xcon get consistently compared to a sub over twice the price. What enclosures have you listened to any of the three(W7, Icon, Xcon) in? I'm using a properly designed and tuned tapered transmission line and I'm in love with my two 15" Xcon with ~2500 wrms. Snappy, deep, low, loud, and very well balanced(but power hungry!). Most people familiar with the SSA subs I would assume tend to stick to normal ported enclosures, as the subs are so well rounded you don't gain much more in terms of performance. I've heard a few W7 systems, the last one being 4 10" w7 with ~3600 clean watts in a single cab blowthrough. Sounded wonderful, but I would bet money he would keep 100% of his sound quality and gain loudness and impact by switching to Xcons, while saving money. Maybe I'm biased too. Who knows. Oh, and half the "loudness" would be 10 db.
  20. It would be awesome if the SSA subs could have close to the sound quality of my 13w7, and still have half the output as my Sundown team subs, but I imagine that being really hard to do as everything in audio is a trade off. I'm surprised the JL's sound as good as they do and can still hammer when called upon, and same goes for the sundowns, they are violent but sound decent at moderate levels, but they are in so much better of a box then my w7, it's just in a crappy prowedge sealed box, it looks good but I know the sub has so much more in it, and my teams need more power, there laughing at the BC3500, and my week as electrical. I still have so much to do but it's hard the way I work, and the local shops are just a rip off. I don't trust them to install a thing. I paid one of them to do my JL system, and it looked as though they just flagged someone down and said you wanna make $50 real quick. They even put used wire pieced together in my doors, thinking I would never see it, and my amp had black tape holding the wires together, like how exspensive can zip ties be?
