  1. you dont have enough money to do the big 3... but you have enough to get an additional battery and get a zx1500.1 instead of the 1000.1???
  2. alright, cool. I hope to start the box soon, just dont quite have the money yet to buy the sub, and Ill be out of town all of april, so if I dont get the project done before then, I wont be working on it until may, but Ill be coming back with plenty of money to buy the sub and any materials I will still need. now Im thinking of selling the infinity amp and buying a little bit more powerful 4 channel amp, and still running fronts and sub off it. might just have to buy a decent mono amp and a nice 2 channel and sell the 4 channel to pay for some of it...
  3. alright, just got a new car (96 accord LX coupe), and I am putting most of what I already got as far as equipment goes into it, but need a new sub. right now I have my DEH-P600UB in my rocky with the rear channels of my 475a powering a really cheap audiobahn (AW1051 I think) that I found from a long time ago in a sealed box thats around 2 ft^3. its wired to 8 ohms so there is only about 90 watts going to the sub now, and its not crazy or anything but it is (was) a decent amount of bass for what it was. anyways I started hearing it make a horrible sound at higher volumes, the surround is actually torn about 1/5 the way around now. I am planning on using the same amp but getting a single 4 ohm 12" DCON. the amp should be able to deliver around 180 watts. I am going to fiberglass in the spare tire well and make an enclosure that will probably be about 1.25-1.5 ft^3 and make a elevated false floor to hide it. now I am hoping to have at least as much bass as I did if not more, but Im not sure what to expect. the sub is better, and it will be seeing more power, BUT the rocky is a pretty small vehicle and the sub is pretty much right behind me, and in the accord it will be in the trunk, upfiring underneath a false floor (but I am going to drill a crapload of 3/16 holes in a 14" diameter area above the sub before I carpet the false floor) so although I know nobody can give me a definite answer, would you guess it will be more impressive, or less impressive than the smaller, crappier sub that was in a smaller cabin right behind me? and we are strictly talking about output, I KNOW the DCON will be cleaner, its a better sub and its back in the trunk.
  4. I had an audiobahn AW1300HCX once, never have owned a sundown amp. I was perfectly happy with my audiobahn but even having never owned a sundown amp I feel comfortable in saying that the audiobahn isnt in the same league as the sundowns are...
  5. just saw a mythbusters about this, beer can get below 32 and not freeze right away and when you shake it or hit it the bubbles do something to allow a small area to freeze and that freezing area allows the surrounding beer to freeze and it slowly freezes all the way through, im sure theres a clip on youtube.
  6. when I first read the title I thought you had 4 of those 15's in there and then read about the box only being 4 cubes and was thinking damn thats way too small... anyways, go on google and search box calculator or something, or google winisd. I do know that the larger the port the longer it will be to keep the same tuning frequency. I dont remember the setup in those mustangs but is there any kind of rear deck or shelf or anything or is it completely open from the back seat to the rear of the car? I think that putting the box far towards the back with the sub up and port back or possibly up is the popular way for hatchbacks.
  7. it might just be me, but it almost turns me away from a product when someone wants to sell something to me but makes me go out of my way to find out how much I have to save/spend...
  8. I say hand em the xbox, buy yourself your own, and put a padlock on the HT room! haha man that is awesome, I have to do something like this some day...
  9. can you even hear at all anymore? lol I have never had 7k watts, or even 2k, but both times I've had over 1k, if I had it cranked up and actually sat in the car my ears would hurt.
  10. alright, so just after I get everything into the rocky, I find out that my dad might be getting his money from his dads IRA this coming week, and buying a newer Nissan Frontier, which would then make me the owner of a 92 Nissan Hardbody king cab so that I can sell my rocky and F150 and use the money to build a shed. (I work for them maintaining their rentals so I store a LOT of crap at my house (tons of paint, big tubs of paint supplies, plumbing parts/tools, electrical, etc...) anyways, I could siphon a bit of the money from the vehicle sales plus regular income for a build. I would once again reuse the Pioneer P600UB, maybe reuse the infinity 475a amp, and scrap everything else. can I wire the amp like this though (am going to have some decent power to the subs so trying to get the most to the front stage) from my front and rear outputs on the HU, wire a set of RCA's from the front left and rear left of the HU to the front channels (L&R) on the amp, and the front right and rear right of the HU to the rear channels (L&R) on the amp. that way I can bridge my 4 channel amp using the fronts as the left channel and the rear as the right channel, giving me 180 watts each to left and right, weird setup, sure, but I think its a legitimate way of getting good power up front without buying more equipment, while still retaining the ability to balance between left and right (although I dont see why I would). I dont even really want to put this part out there because everyone will just say go this route, but I was thinking of a SAX125.2, but its just money taken away from the substage, and I could always do that later on and spend everything on the substage now... if I get it I am going to make a box that goes from the back wall of the cab, up the the back of the front seats, side to side. I plan on housing a pair of 15's ported (I dont remember if theres enough room for a 15 between the seat and rear wall, might have to be 12's. not gonna have the money for XCON's like I would like (could always make the box dual chambered and get one now, one later but its hard to "plan" on spending another 400 bucks on a sub when I wouldnt be able to know when Id ever have that money to blow again. I am looking at either the lethal injections, or if I go with the 12's, lethal injections or SA12's (something like 4 DCONs/187s/Fi-Xs staggered to fit side by side sounds fun too though) amps gonna be an AQ2200D, (I know its overkill but Ill be careful with it an never need another amp until this one dies, even if/when I upgrade. well, I can say that now anyways) as far as components go, I need something that can handle ~150 watts (or 2 cheaper sets that handle 75 and my 4ch amp would remain a 4ch.) but what brands should I look at. is MBquart still good now that they are owned by maxxsonics? never listened to soundstrem but used to hear they were good but now they just look like all their effort goes into making them flashy. how are DLS? I see the bravox are on sale right now but once I get the money they might not be, and I dont wanna spend 400 on speakers. and of course the electrical to support it all. what would you guys do if it was gonna be your setup. really just wanna be LOUD but still able to hear the music itself over the bass. I dont want it to sound like complete crap, but I dont need to enter any SQ comps. oh, I got a word to describe it that you all love to read... """SQL"""
  11. if you wanna keep the box closer to your first size, and not take up a ton of room I would vote for 2 12's sealed downfiring, if you dont mind making the box bigger, then Id port a pair of 12's. but the SA12 is reccomended for a 1.75 and the Icon around 2.0 cubes. so after sub displacement you need around 3.8-4.4 cubes before port displacement. so once you get enough port area, it will probably be a pretty long port and you will end up with quite a big box for a center console. probably something like 14x14x48, if those first 2 meaurements have to stick.
  12. well, got the box done, comps in. I just mounted them to the side panels though, didnt build any pods. There wasnt any way to have them not stick way out just asking to get bumped by something. the way it is now the roll bar almost protects the setup except for the xovers. And of course I just wildly drilled the holes for the tweets without measuring... or even looking... so the roll bar is RIGHT in front of them, but I just put the tweet switch back up to 0 from -3 and its fine. Ill try and get some pics up, but its nothing fancy and I did take a video but I just deleted it because there is nothing to show off, no flexing or anything, and it was too dark to see the excursion through the grille since the vid wasnt taken in full daylight. I might take the grilled off but the sub is right behind the pass seat so it makes it easier to know that there is a little bit of clearance between the two. it is actually a decent thump though, but then I got into the wifes car (which doesnt have any impressive equipment either) and was instantly jealous of even that cheap setup... oh well, good enough for the ride to work.
  13. I like the new logo... and this sub looks awesome but... not to be rude or anything, is there really a market for monster 8's? or is it just cheaper/easier to design a prototype/manufacture a bunch of test pieces in a smaller size and then you will use the same design style to build the larger models?
  14. old full size K5 blazer or the newer smaller ones?
  15. your factory HU had RCA outputs for an amp? or do you have some kind of line converter or something that takes the speaker leads and converts to RCA? if it is your factory HU that has RCA's you are positive that those RCA's arent an aux input?
  16. if you are going to have more money, STI.... STI... OR... STI!!!!!!!!! thats my current dream car, of course a DBS, Murceliago, or 458 Italia would be nice, but as far as "realistic" dreams go, STI all the way.
  17. best vehicle Ive had was my eg civic hatch, all I had was a single type r 12 off an MTX thunder 425D or 4250D or something like that, and Im sure it wouldnt have been near as loud in a trunk. a sub firing towards the roof in the back seat of a VW bug (real bug) does pretty good too though. might get the box finished later and if I can find my shop light I might get the HU installed and wires ran tonight.
  18. lol, oh yeah! if I had money and no need to put tools back there Id put a 15 ft^3 box tuned to 30hz with a pair of 18" XCONs off a 2500D or something. but I dont got that kind of cash plus this little rocky has a whopping 45A alternator...
  19. didnt get too far because when it starts to get dark around here, it gets DARK and FAST this time of year.. that and I was working with a sheet of MDF from over a year ago when I built my last box and had an extra sheet. its been against the back of the house, under an eve with the edge on blocks instead of the dirt, but it still got a little weathered and bowed. so I had to cut off all the edges so I didnt have a good finished edge to work off of, and the bow made it take about 3x longer to glue/screw each joint. I made it bigger than originally planned, but its still gonna be sealed. It also comes a few inches back on the flat spot into the cargo area, but it had to do that or the box wouldnt have been deep enough to mount the sub. just gotta put the angles on the top and bottom of the front panel, make a little bit of bracing for the front and back panel, and since I am not carpeting it and it is a cheap build I am just cutting rectangles to screw to the sides and then using a flush cut bit to trim them with the router. still not sure on the pods, I think they will stick too far out if I mount the speakers pointing directly forwards, but if I angle them to suck them towards the side panels a bit, it exposes them alot more to possible damage from the tools/supplies...
  20. alright, going in to work late, because I have to wait for someone else to finish up their end, so I got a few pics. this is the fancy angle mount sony in there now, its been like this for a year since I got the thing and I just never saw a reason to fix it... the rocky box for the sub is going to end up being pretty small... I am thinking about making it sit on the center hump and span the full width but still end before the flat cargo area, might even get enough volume to port it that way, but space-wise I would still like to only take up one side. this is the bar I am going to somehow clamp a pod to for the comps, and a view of the sweet xplods in there now (again been like that since I got it but never worried about fixing it...) then a quick pic of most of the equipment
  21. yeah, had to sell those 10's i had to pay some stuff, than got into some trouble and spend alot more with that. I had the amp and HU for sale a little while back too, had a buyer pretty much lined up but then decided to tell him the first guy took it and kept it myself... I have seen one other rocky on the roads around here and there is one in the wrecking yard. its a decent ride but its geared so damn low, I think it has shorter gears than my GSR did but it winds out 1500 rpms sooner, so it isnt very freeway friendly. I probably wont start installing stuff for at least a week, busy at work... but any input on if I should seal the pods or leave the backs open?
  22. ok, first of all before I even ask this, I know having them behind me is not optimal, but right now the only speakers I have are xplod 6.5's behind me and its fine, this is one of the work rigs and it isnt getting anything fancy. pioneer 600UB infinity 475a audiobahn ABC600V audiobahn AW1051T if it works, cone moves with no coil-scraping sound, but it did sit in the shed for 3 years and got a little wet and the magnet cover got a little rusty... (I think its a 1051, got it years ago and the stickers fallen off the magnet) it is going to be a simple small sealed box down firing on the floor behind the front pass. seat (rear seat is removed and rear area is used for tools). I am going to run the front channels of the amp to the comps, and bridge the rears to feed the sub a whopping ~150 watts @ 8 ohms... I cant put the comps up front anywhere though, doors are VERY thin, so basically the window hardware takes up the whole inside of the door, foot area is real small and its a 5 speed so with the clutch I definitely have no room for a pod down there. so I am going to mount them to the roll bar in the back. I will get a pic tomorrow maybe but there is room between the side panel and the bar so I am going to make a cut-out of 3/4 mdf to fit between them and cut a circle out of a 2x6 or something and basically clamp the two onto the roll bar and then mount a pod to that, its going to house the tweets, mids, and xovers. but since I dont have a door panel to stop the rear waves from cancelling the front waves, should I seal the pod or will a small sealed enclosure for mids really affect how they play?
  23. you saying you have a tablesaw that you cant lower the blade on? I dont think Ive ever seen one yet that you couldnt lower the blade. I think even my dads old craftman from way back when a "portable" saw weighed 150+lbs, still had adjustable blade depth.
  24. was the old lanzar 1200D (I think it might have been a vibe model) that was actually a good amp zed built? I think this was probably 7 or 8 years ago.
  25. oh, and also, you cant forget the fact that she would again have all of her trunkspace back..
