  1. There is NO differance in the two batterys. They are the SAME battery. The S3400 has a red sticker and comes with the SAE post adaptor kit. The S3400 is the only battery in the "S" seires that does NOT come with a steel case. "S" stands for starting.
  2. Honestly I never thought about the glass effecting sound. Like I said this is my first box design and build. The reasons I did use the glass is to make the box extra ridged, guarantee no air leaks, and raise the boxes failure point. Also I just like playing with glass. I have never heard an FI product or a BTL for that matter. I found this forum a year ago through Fi's website and everyone keeps saying "its all in the enclosure". So I built the biggest, baddest box I could think of. I enjoy building with my hands and definetly like to build things HEAVY DUTY. I would love to hear reasons why the glass is bad or good. The reason I am making this build log is to get CRITICIZED and told what I am doing wrong. I am no master and am just trying to do this build to the best of my abilities from what I've seen and learned. Please be as brutal as you guys have to be to tell me what I am doing wrong, I am a fast learner. As far as the Dampener I have 60 sq ft and the Luxury liner I have 4 sheets. I plan on dampening everything except the trunk because it will be sealed off with foam. The liner will start as far up the front floor as I can get it, front side of the rear wheel wells, and the front doors for starters. I will buy more when needed. I only listen at full tilt on the highway, and hate road noise. I don't bump in town, but hate hearing people and noises from outside my car. I would buy a BMW or Caddy for the quiet ride but would hate to chop up a luxury car.
  3. I am trying to repoduce home audio sound quality, So this should be a VERY SOLID base for the sub stage!!! I like ALOT of headroom But if I want to feel the energy transfer I CAN!!!
  4. Yeah aren't ports fun to design. I just designed my own enclosure with kerfed port and did ALL the math myself. I double checked my numbers on two port calculators and was only a 1/4 of a hertz off on tuning so I'm pretty happy. Don't forget to cut the port wall shorter 1/2 the width/height (depending on box type) of the port. I sent a PM to that guy on here that claims to design boxes for people but he never PMed me back after two weeks so I figured it out myself.
  5. This is as together as the box gets until its in the trunk. fiberglassing at 20 degrees outside!!! Fun Fun with No Sun!!!
  6. That a good start!!! I have been wiring car stereos for 15 yrs but I didn't know how to do it right until a year ago. Now I am starting understand what I am doing (thank god) and not just blindly doing one thing after another to "BE LOUDER". Everything I would read I would say thats crazy, like only running front speakers or leaving the EQ flat or very close to flat. So I would try these things and say WOW these guys have "been there, done that". A couple good thing to read about are: The way the human ear and brain process sound (very important) Magic Frequencies (understand what you are hearing and why it sounds like shit when it sounds like shit) Volts, Watts, Amperes and how they relate.(feel the power) The people here are willing to help, but they will not spoon feed you. (just point you in the right direction)
  7. Get out you pen and notebook. Knowledge is something you must earn and can not just be spoon feed. You will not learn everything overnight but IF you want to learn than you WILL. I have spent a year+ learning the very little I know but I completely understand everything I have learned. I must completely understand something before I feel I have learned it. On another note There are things in this world I could school audio techs on So I guess you could say "I know what I know". One more word of advice: Talk less, listen more. NO SPOON FEEDING ALLOWED
  8. Yes, two 6" ports in that box is enough. Thanks again for your help KU40. I finaly got my kerf slot port figured out but will definetly try areo's in a future build. Check out my kerf slot port and box in my build log!!! I had never even really concidered areo's until I saw everyone talking about them this last weekend. I will study them until I understand them completely.
  9. I thought I did pretty good for my first box design and build.
  10. Thank you. I will be Fiberglassing the inside in the morning.
  11. Math, Math, Math, Math, Math..... Thanks.
  12. Beautiful amp you got there!!!
  13. Agreed.
  14. Horray!!! I sold the type rrrrrrrr 12" sub and box finally. I can always use more money for this project! Anyways I got the box done today!!! Dry fitted the box in the car and every thing is Perfect, seeing as I dont have a 1/4 inch to spare anywhere!!! The spare tire still comes out!!! So then I took the box apart and glued the half together that I can do outside the car. Don't worry I have pictures but I am getting ready to entertain some dinner guest so give me a couple hours and I will post them for you picture whores.
  15. Do two 6" areo ports have enough surface area for 5 cf net box? 2 - 6" areo port = 56.6" and I need 60 min. everywhere I read is telling me I can use less port area and I plan on buying two from partsexpress but want to make sure I'm good. This is for a fi BTL 15" fully loaded and I am looking for max Efficency.(why I got the BTL) I have the box biult and think I might be happier with areo ports over the kerfed port I am trying to build? Please let me know what you think?
  16. Thanks for clearing that up for them. . . I am definetly here to learn, and brought my pen and notebook. SO YES Thank you for taking the time to correct me.
  17. I have run both a brick and mortar shop and now an on line store. Both offer (or offered) great products and we work(ed) very hard to give the best customer service, both were or are a crap ton of work nearly 7 days a week and neither were or are much of an income at all. Long live the Brick Masons.
  18. ...when your thinking about your next set up before you are done putting in the one you have and just spent a year planning.
  19. Welcome to SSA. What do you have for a system?
  20. 4" x 3.14 = 12.5 sq. in. each 6" x 3.14 = 18.8 sq. in. each If I'm not mistaken Except area of a circle isn's r*2, it's r^2. So the 6" port would actually be 9 * 3.14 = 28.3. I knew someone smarter than me would get here sooner or later. I see everyone talking about a areo ports the last couple days, so I was trying to brush up on the my math with google. Its been about 15 years since school for me. So I think this is correct , radius x radius x pi = surface area or as you wrote radius squared x pi = surface area? Thanks for the schooling KU40, I love to learn and I listen to anything you say. When calculating Areo ports do you add anything extra to the surface area for the flare or just calculate like a regular round port? While I'm at it do you know where to start measuring port lenght on a kerfed slot port opening?
  21. 4" x 3.14 = 12.5 sq. in. each 6" x 3.14 = 18.8 sq. in. each If I'm not mistaken
  22. Today is my saturday and the pics will be a comin'!!!
  23. Now you got all us youngsters Googling "jumping the shark".lol
