Dan208's "build" log.
Thanks, guys. I had lots of different systems through high school, but kind of lost interest a while back. This is my first in about 5 years. I'd love to take up the entire back, but this is the "family truckster" so I need to keep a good chunk of space. It looks much bigger in pictures than it actually is. Still a bit of room though.

Dan208's "build" log.
Well, I decided I'd go ahead and post up my vehicle and stereo setup. It's nothing big, but it works for now. 2008 Saturn Vue Factory HU Factory door speakers Tsunami and Power Q 4 gauge wiring MTX RFL600D Clarion SW1051 The amp and LOC were installed by L&H Mobile Electronics of Topeka, KS. Good bunch of guys there. I bought the amp used for a very good price. I also found the pair of Clarion subs BNIB for an awesome price so I snatched them up. Only running one for now, and I'm not sure if or when I'll ever install the second one. I'm very impressed with the performance of this sub. Not at all what I expected. I do plan on upgrading the door speakers, but IMO they sound good and will get me by for the time being. Anyway, onto the pics: I had to cut the carpet off the front of the box to enlarge the hole because it was too small for my previous sub. Also had to cover up the power light on the bass knob with some electrical tape. Thing is so bright it was blinding me at night. This setup is just temporary until I get the funds for a different sub, but all in all I'm pretty happy with it. Not the loudest thing in the world, but it's decent for what it is. Be kind.

Setting amp gains.
ALSO make sure it is on A/C volts not D/C lol i have done that a few times! if it is on D/C and yet set it to say 30volts d/c you are actually seting it lower then when you pop it into a/c you will read like 25volt ac those numbers are just for reference sake! but A/C no D/C Will do. Thanks. I'll probably end up printing out some instructions so I have them right there with me.

Sundown SA-10 Pre-Sale
x2. If I can round up some money I think this is at the top of my list for my next purchase.

Setting amp gains.
Thanks for the quick replies. I don't have access to an o-scope, so that's not an option. I think I'll see what happens when I set it by ear then use the DMM to test how close I got it. I don't fully trust myself to just set it by ear.

Setting amp gains.
I picked up a DMM the other day and have been reading up on setting my amp gains. I came across this the other day: So my question is, is it still safer to set your gains with a DMM than by ear?

Incriminator audio Feedback.....
It's customer service like this that is making me have such a hard time deciding who's subs I want to go with next.

Worst Movie You've Ever Seen
I saw that the other day and was like, "What the hell?" The Watchmen WOULD have been good if it didn't drag on and on and on and on and....well, you get my point. Planet of the Dinosaurs. So bad it's good.

Subwoofer displacement?
Thanks, guys. They aren't huge subs, so I figured the displacement wouldn't be a whole lot.

Need some advice for summer project.
Ok, really dumb question. Could someone explain the "rolling off" thing to me? I read about it all the time, but don't understand what it means.

Subwoofer displacement?
I'm looking through my subs owner's manual, and I can't find the displacement. What is displacement represented as? I've Googled it every way possible and still have come up with nothing. They are Clarion SW1051's. Sorry for the noob question.

No EQ. Just a bass knob.

I don't know, the Dcons still have my interest. I've got a couple of questions for Denim, or anyone else with Dcon experience. 1) How much does running them sealed affect the low end? Will they still get pretty low in a sealed box? 2) Is there going to be a major difference between running them at their optimal sealed enclosure size vs the minimum? The only thing about that is I won't be using my amp's full potential. Not that it is necessarily a bad thing, I'd just like to use all of it, so to speak.

Need some advice for summer project.
Thanks guys. With all the reading I've been doing today I'm really leaning towards either a single 10" or 12" Icon. Seems like it might be the best option for keeping my box size down but still being able to get loud.

2008 Saturn Vue. It's the family vehicle, so I can't take up the whole back.

That was the original plan. Or two Sundown 8's. I wasn't sure how two sealed subs would compare to a single ported.

My birthday is in July and I'm trying to decide what to do with the money I get (yes, I'm 30 years old and still get money ). I do know that I want to upgrade sub/subs, but I'm not quite sure which way to go. Budget will be between $200-$250. Not sure if I could swing $300, but it's a possibility. I've got 600 @ 2 ohms to work with. The main thing is I'd like to keep the box size down as much as possible. I don't want to go over 2 cubes total, and even that's pushing it. So, I'm thinking either 2 8's or 10's in a small sealed box, or a single 10" or 12" ported. I'd love to try a 15" since I've never run one before, but I don't want to choke it down into too small of a box. I'm not looking to compete, and I'm not out to impress anyone except myself. I just want a good sounding, decently loud daily driver. I'm mainly looking at Sundown, IA and SSA.

Sealed or ported?
It's possible, you will have to take into account of the port displacement when tuning. Better off starting from scratch and building a new ported box. Then compare it to the sealed box you already have. Alright. I'll just stick with keeping it sealed and build a few new boxes, soon hopefully.

Sealed or ported?
Maybe a dumb question, but would it be a mistake to try and port my current box? It's .86 cubic feet, so I'm not sure if it would work or not.

SSA Brand Subs
I'm going to pick up a pair of these for my birthday this year. July can't come soon enough. :woot: That's the plan so far anyway.
-
Thinking about trying a DCON.
As long as these are still offered as single 4 ohm in July, I'll more than likely be picking up a pair.
