Do you guys think this procedure can be done in Auto shops? How complicated is this procedure? I mean, I would love to try it, but I dont have any experience at all with this. In the worse case, I would prefer an auto shop to do it, but if its going to cost a lot forget it lol

Okay. Let's say you have all your settings right, and a properly built box. You're woofer will last. (excluding some lemons) You're volume knob will be directly correlated to the power your amplifier is putting out. You set you're gain with your volume knob at 75% conservatively so you know you're HU is not clipping. You set it that way so that YOU KNOW when you're volume is on, say 15/20 (75%) that that is your MAX listening volume. Any higher you will risk clipping, and thus over powering. Yeah, definitely. If I set my gains at 75% of HU volume, thats it. Whenever Im playing beats, I would keep an eye to make sure the volume stays at 15/20 or lower. Besides the fact that I learned (and I always see around) that you should never play your HU higher than 75% of its volume capacity.

There are alot of factors that play a role in this such as: box size, amps settings, head unit settings, some songs have more bass than others, the recording of the music. Just because your system is performing fine on one song, you should still keep your ears, eyes and nose open and available to sense stress on the woofer and simply turn it down. Since he wasnt paying attention to it one song could of triggered it and it just got worse from there plus the amount of time. Its not that your gains arent set right but other factors may play a role and all you have to do is simply turn the knob down. I wouldnt be riding around (car example) with my volume at or around 75% all the time or for long periods of time anyway. Just my .02 I see So considering an stable case. Fi BTL 18" with a Sundown 2000D. Gains set right. No Bass Boost anywhere and amplifier configured right. Everything is perfect. It does NOT mean you can play for long periods of time? Keep in mind we are talkin about a case in which there are no installation or configuration problems. I want to make sure I get this right because Im planning on getting a monster system and my university is somewhat far away, if I ever have to take the trip there with my audio system finished, I dont want to know that trip can be the last for a fully loaded BTL... you know?

I use Chrome Devs release 4.0.288.1 is their latest dev release and is freakin fast, doesnt crash like IE and simple. Light weight and works like it should. No complains here

you MUST be like 15......... back then that was a SHIT ton of power. So when exactly was this amp released? How much did it cost?

Yep I thought about doing that, but didnt know how accurate it would be like you said. In the other side, I thought it would be marked in the manual maybe but oh well...

Guys I just noticed Sundown just puts the starting and ending frequency, but doesnt state what would your LPF be if set let say half-way. How in the world do I know where 100Hz for LPF is, 20Hz for Subsonic etc????

I want to know how customizable they are, MSRP, and who will be selling it. Man, I was right about to buy a BTL, glad I bought my amp first. We will see what SM brings....

Yep, its only for my temporary Pioneer which runs 1000watts RMS @ 2ohms. After Im done saving for my BTL, Alternator, Battery, things will go down to 1ohm My Pioneer doesnt need 1/0 cables yet, thats why Im sticking to what I have for now.

Ok cool, I didnt know you could use speaker wire too haha. Well, now I just need to find out if my current 4 gauge power/ground cables will fit in the 1/0 Sundown connectors. The screw seems pretty big...

Btw in my last post I meant the Sundown 2000D Amp, not the alpine unit lol The screws for 1/0 gauge cables on the sundown will fit no problem with 4gauge cables that I currently have in my car? Or do I need new screws?

Wait a min... I got lost now So even if you have exactly 2k watts RMS or less and your gains set correctly (supposing this was a car case) and your volume at 75% or less, you can still mess up your sub?

Thanks KU40. Also, I just got the Alpine unit. Im so happy with it!. This thing is HEAVY!!!!!!!, makes me doubt if my Sony is really making the claimed 900watts RMS that it says which such a light weight... Now, I cant wait to start using this beast

I hope you guys dont kill me but another question just recently came up to my head. So let say I increase my gain and my bassy music sounds good. But when I play something that does not need bass, the only way I have to "kill" that extra bass would be to lower my bass setting on the receiver. Wouldnt that make the song be like for example 120db 20-40hz 110db 40-60hz 120db 60hz and higher. I dont think not-bassy music go as low as 45hz, but still would kind of mess with the frequencies right? My guess is that, that is the result of buying such a bad amp that did not come with a bass remote. I could just easily decrease the knob and have everything balanced, but since the amp does not have that. Im stuck with using the receiver.

Oh ok so Subwoofer setting is ok. Bass setting is the bad boy here. Thanks for that info. Man, Im getting my Sundown tomorrow and I just noticed I will have to connect a remote cable and run the RCA. Grrrr.... thought it was gonna be easier than that.

Thanks for that explanation. I now know after reading your post, why bass boost is a bad choice. Excellent and clear explanation. Will definitely have to turn my gain just a bit more so I can leave my bass setting on default. Jay-cee, getting a new sub for now is not an option as Im saving for the BTL monster.

Ok I see what you mean now. But could it be possible, let say, if your gain is suppose to be 45, can you set it on something like 40 so you can have bass boost room in the receiver? Or is this a bad idea at all? About the voltages for the formula, yeah my question about if it was right was because a 18" BTL @ 1ohm barely needs more gain than my current 12" Pioneer @ 2ohms so I thought it was kinda weird... but again since I dont have much amp experience... Lastly, in the history of amps and subs, has there been needs to have the Gain up all the way to 0.2 gain? I mean, like I said already I dont have a DMM and I have no idea where in the world could that 44.43v be in my amp. I also want my bass without hurting my system but at 0.2 Im already wondering if thats a safe spot...

Ok I see So even if I set my Gain right with a DMM, I can still play with the Bass setting in the receiver... maybe +2 or +3 (goes up to +6). On the other side (sorry for changing topics a lot lol) I just realized something. The gain with my current system (Pioneer + Sony) should be sqrt( 2ohms * 900) = 42.43 Now, I just bought the 2000D and I plan on using it at 1ohm so that it gets the whole 2000watts RMS from the SAZ-2000D. To set the gain, we do the formula sqrt (1ohm * 2000) = 44.72 Does this sound right? Idk if its because I havent played with enough car amplifiers, but are the numbers correct according to what I just wrote? They seem really close to each other =/ EDIT: Just fixed my system. Increased Gain to 0.5 (which would be ~2:00 o'clock) and set my Bass to +3 on the receiver. Bass improved a bit, however I noticed when I put +6, the bass comes out louder at the level I wish it could come. I dont wanna risk it and increase the Gain all the way to 0.2 I feel like that would not be in a safe zone without a DMM.

Well since it is only a factory head unit, it only has "Bass" and "Treble" settings, nothing else. There is NO such thing as Bass Boost/Extend or Loudness or just Subwoofer like in Alpine units. With that said, I will try increasing the Gain in the amplifier to see if that improves things without harming anything, but I will def need a DMM as I dont want to play too high with the Gain. One question tho, why is it bad to play with the Bass setting on the receiver?

Yeah I have a feeling my Gain could go higher. When I have my Bass setting in default in the receiver, bass is almost non-existent and I think you guys told me not to increase the bass in the receiver. The only way I feel the subwoofer IS actually working is when I rise the bass in the receiver, but I think thats a no-no right?
