IIRC, pure class A amps are very very inefficient. Me thinks diffrences between pure class A and AB aren't worth thinking about. Again, IIRC, AB's work in 2 stages : on low levels they work as a class A (inefficient) and as you increase the level they work as a class B. I'm not sure those Soundstreams are actually pure class A.

How about hosting something similar to ampguts over here ? That is an interesting idea. I know we will have to kick our bandwidth up again. We just hit 90% already this month after juicing it up 2 months ago. As to how it will be set up, I am not sure, I would prefer something that is not code heavy, but something users could submit and mods could approve images and info. Keep that idea in mind

Heck, I've worked on the Viper using the JBL schematic

And buying used is not such a step down from new, simply because amp technology hasn't changed too much

I have my BPX2200 in front of me right now and I can tell you it bears no similarity to the Viper. Do you have a schematic nearby, so we can talk in more detail ? Not trying to be a smartass at all, just pointing out some facts. Real facts. I have the GZ and JBL schematics to cross-check. And I also have a Viper sitting on my desk. Back to the hcca vs old orion : Yes, the hcca is a lot beefier, but it has a lot of unnecesary complications, like the anti-theft protection, gain limiter and other gimmicks. In the event something breaks, fixes aren't easy. (2 of those are giving me a lot of heaches) I've seen 2 cases of people over here that sent their hcca 5000D to the UK, to get fixes. Only to break again without a good reason...
