I would agree with this. It just seems if people ask the answer is always "get the BL" and in my case I would have chosen the wrong sub. That is because for people who have to ask, the bl is a better option. There is nothing wrong with people asking questions, I try to get reviews and ask questions about most things I purchase before hand. Especially something online that I cant physically compare with my own eyes (or ears) A Q will have more output to the ear on the lower freq notes than the BL. The BL will have more output in the normal and higher range than the Q. If the owner is gonna tune or shoot for the 25-30hz range the Q is probably gonna make them happier, if they are gonna tune the box to 32-38 hz then the BL would be the better choice. That seems like a better answer to someone considering the two than the non helpful high and mighty answer of "if you have to ask then the BL is what you want" Just curious but Rick, what size Q did you have and what was your opinion of it?

Whats interesting is that I notice a ton of people on here that just dont seem to think the Q gets loud, or that just because someone wants to get loud they shouldn't buy the Q. I was in the same boat trying to decide my last sub choice. But against what several people said on here I went with the Q and was very happy I did. I went in wanting very clean hard hitting lows and that exactly what the Q does. I was tuned at 29hz and the sub was a monster under 42 or so hz peaking at 30hz (in my truck, my box, etc) Matter of fact on the meter my setup was within 2 decibels from 28hz all the way to 40hz,very flat. If SPL or competing was my main concern the Q would not be my choice. I know someone local with 2 18in BL's and he went from the Q because of similar suggestions and even he said the Q was much better on the lows. I will say that the BL's seem more peaky to me and not the sound I am looking for. Hence why I just ordered two new 18in Q's. And yes I have heard alot of different setups. I have a picky ear and the Q fits my needs. Summary from my experience if like the mainstream rap and want the 40hz range peakier output, or want to bang on your buddy, etc.etc then get the BL. If you are not constantly on full tilt, like a very balanced sub that gets very low with authority then consider a Q. Neither will matter if the enclosure isn't up to par
  4. Subs forward, port up on drivers side. I dropped box height and went length of truck. Should be nasty
  5. People actually pay you? Lol
  6. Well, after getting my MDF home and starting making cuts, bent my blade, dropped full sheet and cracked it, and garage covered in dust. Got pissed and said screw it. It was gonna be too heavy anyway. So I started over and picked up 5 sheets of 13 ply Russian Baltic Birch. Cuts like butter All cuts done. I will assemble it tomorrow and start the resin on the inside. Finally making some progress. I guess the good thing is I have plenty of fresh MDF here for the next few builds for people, LOL.
  7. Awesome build for sure!!!
  8. Ok well after numerous designs I have settled on 13.5cu tuned at 30hz, I want to be able to throw close to full power at them. The design I came up with above I felt like one sub would unload into the port, this new design is pretty straight forward. Will be about 4in above window line bringing the height down with subs forward port up on drivers side. I have the floor in and will start on enclosure tonight or tomorrow. Also gonna resin the inside of box, all double 3/4. Sorry for the slow progress. Hopefully I will have some photos up soon.
  9. It was very nice, keeping the box just so I can go back to it when I get tired of the 18's A Gcon will go back in more than likely.
  10. So with subs up this will only leave roughly 6in between the sub face and roof.... Anyone see a issue with this? There will be roughly 10 inches on each side of the box. Port will be loading off the rear door, or trying to open it..lol Well thinking about it I would not be able to remove subs without taking the box out, so subs forward it will have to be.
  11. I make all my music with my earbuds. They pick up all the lows!!
  12. OK so here is the final design and what I am going with. I had great luck with sub forward and port to driver side so I will try subs up, port to driver side with this one. I know this wouldnt be the loudest on a meter but this is not meant to be. I could go subs forward with this design also but have heard people had great results sub up port to side 14.4cu tuned at 29hz I will start the floor and probably box this weekend. next update will have photos.
  13. Ok looks like I will stick with about 14cu and start building. Thanks for all opinions
  14. No no, it was a joke. I am getting FI Q's. I had a 15in Q in 3.6cu tuned at 29hz and it murdered the lows. My truck peaked at 30hz with that setup. I liked it so much I ordered 2 18's. LOL Thanks for input bro. Did u get it metered? 140@30 hz, 15in Q, SAZ-1500
  15. These look awesome! I would love to try out four 15's some day
  16. No I realize that there is two subs. I meant each. It will matter how many baffles used if you get technical, because the more baffles used the less displacement the sub will occupy inside the box. So are you saying in if I used 10 baffles and only 2 inches of the sub were inside the box it would still take up .24? See what I'm saying.... I have a very good feel for calculating internal volume, I was just curious with such large panels doubled up how much bracing would I need and if what I designed would be sufficient. My math was 17.87 cu - .44 subs - .35 bracing - .10 45's = 16.98 net volume
  17. It's perfect for them, it 2 18's.... They call for 6-10cu each. I'm at 8.5
  18. Well looks like I will end up with 17.87cu before bracing and sub displacement. I really want to end up with 17cu total after. This is for 2 18in FI Q's on 3k watts. Box dimensions will be Outside 35h x 54w x 27d.... All sides double 3/4 MDF except front baffle will be triple. (may use some Birch for weight reduction) Usable inside demensions are 32h x 41.5w x 23.25d = 17.87cu Port is 8 x 32 = 256in total Sub displacement = .24... but I will be triple baffled so what maybe .22 or less?? Total of six 2in hardwood dowels for bracing =.35 2in wide 45's in corners =.10 So this leaves me with 17cuft tuned at 30hz after all is said and done. I may glass the inside as well? whats the benefits? Anybody see anything I am missing? Will six 2in hardwood dowels be enough fr bracing? 2 top to bottom, 2 front to back and 2 side to port wall. Plus with all double walled and triple baffle this mofo should be solid I would think.
  19. Thats what I was wondering about. Any links or pics would be great. I will start building as soon as I figure out how I want to secure it.

  21. Are you saying 2 15in Xcons will hit 150db at 29hz? I find that hard to believe. Notice the bold/underlined word. I had to read it two or three times the first time too, lol. On another note, at least from the experience I've had with MA subs, he'll be leaps and bounds ahead of where he was just having a quality sub such as either of these. OH, oops.. I then agree with his statement. lol If that were true I was fixing to cancel my order with FI. haha

If your goal is low and deep staying with 1000watts I would look at the Q. Unless of coarse you already have the BLs then if so you will be fine.
  24. damn thats gonna be loud!!
