SSA ICON Series out of stock
:wackit3: :wackit3: If I wasn't going for a completely SQ setup, had more money, and a bigger trunk I'd definitely go with the ICON's!! Not to mention I already have 2 DCON's Good luck to all who buy, use, sell, invest, build, etc. SSA gear!

Chevy Cavalier 04 Audio System Build Log
Well I got somewhere between 400 and 500' of 12awg sitting in my room now for the low, low price of 30 bucks! Pics! 7-12-10 7-12-10 7-12-10 7-12-10 7-12-10 7-12-10 I did notice some corroding just a tiny bit between the insulation and copper. Hopefully that wont impact performance and since it's 12awg I don't think the copper will corrode anytime soon... Anyways, more parts on their way! Wrapping up finals pretty soon. Then fabrication of doors, kicks, other stuff!!

High Output Alternator
That's only 820W. The standard alternator will handle it fine. The ohms only change wattage to the speakers. The DCON's do thrive in small enclosures. And rears are really user applicable much of the sq gang are broken up into hating rears because of cancellation, or loving them because they add that back reflection that you get when listening to concerts. So for true sound quality no wattage isn't necessary just enough to reproduce the sound accurately and mix well with the rest of the frequencies. But most of the time sq can get quite loud and we'll need the extra battery/alternator. No problem just trying to extend some of my knowledge gleaned from others. Any more questions, concerns, I'll gladly try to help with. -Nathan

Ya, I looked to see if I still had them, but I just have the "phase plug". Thanks, Richard called ID and now I have a set coming! Thanks. Now I can really try every combination of positions... yippee.

High Output Alternator
Even in sound quality builds amplifiers can pull too much juice for the alternator and when you add on all factory equipment, eg. lights, windows, ac fan, etc. it can add up to where the alternator is spending 20 of it's 80 amps just in keeping the car running. Then the sound system needs say 100 amps thats a 120 amp load on a 80 amp alternator way too much. To calculate your draw you'd need a voltage measurement of the car sitting at idle with nothing on, say that's 14.4v and say you have a 1000w amp 1000/14.4 = 69.4amps That's where your friend is getting his 70 amp calculation. Another way is to add up all the amperages on the fuses on the amps. My amps have 4 20A fuses and 2-50A fuses. I'd need 180amps to run at full tilt. As for 2 batteries and a high alternator it's all vehicle/user specific. A general rule is that batteries let you run longer while alternators let you run louder. A battery right next to the amps help smooth out power fluctuations between the alternator 1st battery and 2nd battery. Hope this helps. Nathan

My Audio Journey haha **Pics**
The head unit takes standard composite video (yellow connector) as one of its imputs. It would work with a 360. You'll need an inverter for the xbox to go from 12v DC to 120v AC. Oh and OP, nice job! Very clean, love the xbox!

You sir are in need of some Twistechild420, besides a good laughing fit; yeah I know, and I know better than to bash companies please accept my apologies. I just get sick of companies saying my 'sub can take 1200w' and overprice them out the wazoo. I'm just so happy to support people who don't charge an arm and my left lung for equipment. I didn't even know you had them or were looking them for me. Thanks so much! I plan on doubling up some 3/4" MDF for baffles mounting and sealing them to the door then using SDS to seal everything up. Something along these lines. Hopefully I wont be forced to make any boxes for them and the doors will hold the rear wave inside. And I'll be sure to take at least as many as I am now if not more while the build progresses. Now to buy some wire, sleep, make money for more car purchases, measure for SDS then buy deadener!

Know where I could get the adapters? I searched around and couldn't find them. Just call Image Dynamics?

Oh wow, Never thought of that. I will definitely check to see if it sounds good there. It may leave my staging too low for my liking, but that's a great idea. Thanks a bunch!

Haha yep, they are beautiful. I'm so glad I bought SSA and not some other crap..J and L + audio... I plan on doing a review once I put them in the box I'm building for them and hear them first hand. Hey, what's the tuning frequency of the optimal dual ported enclosure on the tech designs? I couldn't find it listed anywhere. Free-air yeah, I want to do everything right from the get-go, no cutting corners, no holding back. It almost sounds like an air compressor through very quiet, gives me a headache after awhile. Thanks for providing such quality hardware! -Nathan

I decided against it. I thought a leaky box was better ( I do not mean this in a sarcastic tone only meant to be humorous, Sorry If it comes across that way. I know I haven't built any sort of relationship to where you'd see it as humorous and not sarcastic in nature, but I've read so many threads where y'all are joking around, I figure I can try at this whole online forums humor game) As to why there's no glue that was when I was just putting the box together for test fitting. I started work on screwing everything together first, so that I can take the screws out then glue it then screw it together without fumbling to drill out pieces while the glue is spreading everywhere. But i'm waiting on my mom to paint the box black before putting it together as the port will be unaccessible to paint once I'm done. I'm not quite sure if I'll like the black with a silver car. Any suggestions there? Black carpet is alway nice, paint on MDF just looks like shit unless a professional does it. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure your mom can paint, what mom can't.. but carpet is a much better route. I do like how the black came out on my amp rack, It was very pretty IMO. So get some cheap thin black carpet from Lowes or something and staple it to the MDF?

Sorry about that, I was meaning to send you a PM so you'd know they were in good care. I was also wondering how well you'd say the speakers are broken in, this probably pertains to the V1's, as the 54's you said you had used for a year or so. Yeah next weekend is really the first I'll have most of my tests/finals over. But this weekend is cram, cram, cram. So expect pictures next weekend, if I don't post any flame-post-whore me until I do. I love them. They were, until now the best sounding car speakers I've ever heard. Yes they came with crossovers as the crossovers really make the 3-way design sound good. I'll think about it. Depends on how much I like my front stage. I've never had a decent front stage so I may be a little biased to the rear fill sound and will still require them to make me happy. But if I ever do think about it I'll let you know. Although I just noticed that the left tweet wasn't working correctly and I'll have to do some testing of the speaker and crossover to determine the cause, I ran a quick DCR check of all speakers and they were within normal ranges. So I'm not sure what's going on. Thanks everyone for being so supportive. I don't think I would do 1/2 as good a job if it weren't from the great support and help from everyone here at SSA and my family/friends here. Once I get started on the actual build portion I'll be open to suggestions and hints/tricks as I truck along. Hopefully the FL cold wont set me back any. Thanks again guys, Nathan Riddle

Actually, Richard, (sq_mgb), who I bought my speakers from, talked to me at length about speaker placement and using the methods you suggested actually adding a couple more. Very nice guy, I plan on calling him and talking to you once I get rolling on this build. For now Finals...

Hahaha, me too! I keep going through ideas, mounting positions, crossover points, etc. in my head wondering what's best. I think what i'll do to calm my spirits and hopefully finish strong in school will be to take pictures and ask the community instead of constantly running ideas through my head when i should be listening to how taking the integral of sinx is going to help me later in life. Some straightforwardness in the front stage will be mid-bass in doors (sealed of course), midrange in kicks/pods, and tweets on A-pillars or I spotted a very nice spot for them and between the dash, A-pillar, and door that may service my hearing much better than if it was on the A-pillars. The A-pillars seem too close at least the left one to my head to put tweets on the pillars. I'll take pics and ask sooner or later (hopefully sooner).
