So I am going to build a bandpass substage
From my previous experience with bandpass enclosures in a vehicle, it is usually best to have the peak that you're seeing (which is primarily courtesy of the interaction with the front chamber) with a 3dB drop down to the Fc of the rear chamber, then a ~18dB/octave slope at that point so long as your bottom end is sufficiently fat, for lack of a better term. From where you are now, this can be achieved by dropping Fb a little bit and decreasing the rear chamber's size minimally. How much you change these will vary dependent on the efficiency gains you are willing to give up that are inherent with a bandpass enclosure. I highly, highly, highly recommend using a flared port, particularly with a small box driver like an Rl-i 8; doing so will allow you to use a smaller diameter port with shorter length will keeping vent velocity lower. I don't have any of the 8" RL-i t/s handy right now so I can't model something specific up immediately, but I think you will find your next project to be a very entertaining one. Predicting cabin gain with a sealed enclosure is relatively easy (even in a car, it's not too hard) but predicting cabin gain and modeling any consistency in that regard with a bandpass enclosure is quite challenging. Personally, I have had success in few trunk cars using the suggestions I listed above. My girlfriends Grand Am is seeing a similar treatment right now and everything is sounding good so far. There is a caveat to the suggestion I made above, and that is simply that if you end up with in vehicle response where the lower end is actually rising, you will probably be very disappointed by the perceived "sloppy" sound that is natural to the human ear at lower frequencies.

OiNK > * There is no other torrent tracker or p2p that I like as much as OiNK. It's also a nice gateway to other private torrent sites once you become a power user there. From OiNK, I have gained access to thedvdclub.org, torrentleech.org, bitme.org, etc. Private torrent trackers are a beautiful thing, especially if you have a 100mbps seedbox

How to determine amplifier output
I couldn't agree more with Sean. If you're just wanting an approximation for a "daily application", then just use whatever the manufacturer publishes. If you're going to test a product with the goal of producing any measurements worth comparing to the manufacturer's published information, then it only makes sense to test in the same conditions.

If anyone is interested in reading the graphic novels by Frank Miller that the movie is based on, send me a pm.

Must-see Movies
I love any movie based on that time period, but found the plot slow and some of the more interesting things related to the Black Dahlia murder was left out. Stranger Than Fiction (that's the Will Ferrell one being referred to) was very, very good.

Life Guards
I am certified here, although our lifeguard system is a tad different than in the US. My big challenge during certification was I had to do a bottom rescue and pull out on a guy that happened to be 325 lbs. Aside from that, everything is easy to remember and endurance was a strength of mine, so getting certified was simple. If you're in good shape and have passed Grade 8, you should be capable of passing, particularly if you've been swimming your whole life.

Must-see Movies
Doesn't have to be recent at all. I finally watched Crash the other day and was very impressed. I was a little disappointed in Superman (it's really the only comic based series of movies that I don't like...well, maybe DareDevil ) but pleasantly surprised by Lucky Number Slevin.

Must-see Movies
I have seen some very good ones lately, but I have to recommend The Prestige. Christian Bale and Christopher Nolan are an unbelievable team. I have read the book and Bale plays a very good Alfred Borden. The film is shot very well and the plot is very circular, which I love. I saw it twice in theaters and downloaded the dvd a few weeks ago; just got a chance to watch it again last night. What are some movies you have seen recently that everyone else must see?

Coil's
I'll just touch briefly on this and will try to cover it in greater detail when I cover all of the parts of a speaker. The most important note is that despite any inherent differences between option A and option B, it is the summation of all parts that provides the final product. A big part of power handling is the surface area to mass ratio. A flat wound coil has a higher ratio than a round wound coil. However, it also means that the windings are further spread, so BL drops more quickly as the coil moves out of the gap. Yes, fringe BL is higher, but the BL in the gap drops. This is an obvious example of flux modulation and generally leads to a degradation in frequency response. Higher gauge windings are generally not a good thing. To give a real world example of how little this is used, ask yourself how many times you have seen 2 or 4 layer windings of the voice coil rather than an increase in wire gauge. Increasing the layering of the windings with a small gauge wire will add power handling without really sacrificing BL. A larger gauge wire will increase power handling, but also runs you into the flux modulation issue. Generally speaking, very small gauge wiring in several layers is the best option, hence why it is seen most frequently. The coil former is an interesting part of the heat dissipation formula. When looking at dissipation of heat, you generally want power to go from the coil, to the former, from the former to the air, and then have this heat collect around the magnets or be pushed through any of the venting opportunities. The challenge is getting it from the former to the air, as air is not the greatest heat conductor. You can choose a highly conductive former to pull a lot of heat from the coil, but then you might damage the former. You can pick a former that isn't very conductive, but then you leave all the heat in the coil with a very small chance of transferring heat into the air. The best solution is often picking a relatively conductive former with a high melting point while using very good heat resistant adhesives. Just food for thought.

Speaker bs...
Making a choice based solely on business practices and customer service, I would recommend either the Q or the Rl-p. Nothing against TC, but I like them better when they only OEM and don't post on internet forums.

Coil's
I'm not ready for this yet I am maybe 50% done a rather large article on all the different parts and the roles they play in a driver.

Speaker bs...
That could not be more false. If we would like to make blanket statements, then yes, higher BL^2/Re can potentially allow for higher SPL measurements, but there is no definitive yes or no to that statement. In terms of SQ, that is a really, really hard argument to make. When considering what creates BL, one of the first things I think about is: "is that higher BL due to a tighter gap, a bigger stack, or a larger voice coil?" If the answer is indeed the last option, then you can expect higher inductance, which will affect your transient rise time and your upper frequency response. Also, higher rest BL without any BL linearity can be pretty damaging in terms of really accenting any distortion. Wait till you see some more definitive measurements before you believe what they are saying.

TC vs FI
Multiply your power by a factor of at least 5 and you're in the right area. I think then you will find it to be sufficiently loud.
