Power for SSA DCON 12S4
Simply. No. 600 is way to much for the dcon. It's super efficient around 300-350 w RMS. SO instead of the SSA DCON 12S4, I should get the SSA DCON 12D4 and wire it in SERIES and then the ZED amp would see a 8ohm load and give it a continuous 300w as stated in the manual. Right?!

Power for SSA DCON 12S4
So I recently posted this thread about the continuous power of the ZED Leviathan amp powering the Image Dynamic CTX65CS comps. I'm on a roll ... - SSA Car Audio Forum I am satisfied to know that the ID comps will run fine with the ZED amps RMS power. I however didn't think about the power handling capability of the SSA DCON 12S4. That sub is rated at 300w RMS and the ZED amp puts out 600w continuous power bridged. Sooo ... will the DCON 12S4 sub be OK with the 600w continuous power that the ZED amp will be feeding it? I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this BUT I just want to make sure. Headroom right?! THANKS!

Opinions on a few amps
x' 2 on the ZED Leviathan Trust me I was in the market for a 5-6 channel amp like you. I also had a budget. This ZED amp is more than I wanted to spend BUT do some research on the amp read the manual, and read the reviews on-line, and you too will be sold. I have not yet purchased it BUT I AM going too. This amp is awesome! BTW I believe it's 600w bridged at 4ohm's. Also it's $622 here at the SSA store. Good luck on the amp search!

New amps?
Yes, I am planning on purchasing the Leviathan as mentioned in my OP. I was just wondering whether there was going to be a new addition to the multiple channel (5 to 6 channel) amp department. Crossover as in a separate crossover component? Individual all by itself, not a part of or containing an amp? SWEET!!! Tube amps?! Oh my GAWD!!! Man ZED is the . Sorry I was having fun w/those emoticons.

New amps?
So I hear that ZED is coming out with new amps? I am planning to get the Leviathan BUT if there is maybe some new product coming out, specifically in the 5-6 channel amp department then maybe I should wait and see. Can anyone give me any clues as to if what I heard was correct and about the possibility of new 5-6 channel ZED amp? TIA

I want one!
Those dimensions are fine! The only thing I would like different is the carpet color to be BLACK, and the accent paint colors on the Kerf and flush mount to be LIGHT GRAY or something close to that. Thanks! Perfect. That is without shipping, correct? Because I live in the area and can pick-up. Do you require a deposit to get started or just the word "Go". If no deposit then let the build begin. Thanks again! Michael

Rescued a puppy from an Indian Res.
Looks like a dachshund, beagle mix. These are very vocal breeds by nature. A dog really needs to be walked for a lot longer (both distance and time) than most owners really want to or are willing to do. I know I have put off getting a dog because my kids are to young to walk the dog by themselves. I basically don't want to be the one stuck to do all the work. So I am waiting until they are older and we can all share in the responsibility. Anyhow you rescued the dog and are finding it a home so good job, you saved a dog most likely!

Rescued a puppy from an Indian Res.
He probably needs exercise. I would say walk him early in the day, get him tired out. Then continue with the discipline. I don't think you need to hit (I know your not smacking the dog) the dog at all to discipline. Mostly just continue to let him know that his whining is not acceptable behavior. Shush him, use body language to let him know you are the boss. He might need another walk at night because he is a puppy. It might take a week or so but pent up energy and lack of discipline might take some time to straighten out. I'm no expert but just some ideas. Good luck, be patient, and thank you for saving this pup!

How did you guys find SSA???
We aim to carry the high end, smaller name brand stuff that no one else has. I like that! Right now I am planning to buy a whole new car audio system (minus h/u) made up of brands I never heard of two weeks ago. I could give a rats a$$ really what the name is on a piece on equipment. But honestly I didn't know any better. I care about how much money it cost, what am I getting for my $, the technology/research/product development/quality/ETC,ETC, of that product. SSA forum and store have all of that plus the knowledge base of maybe thousands of forum members who are there to help. Not once in my newbie status postings have I come across a pretentious, arrogant A-hole who replies to me like I'm an idiot. Unfortunately I have had that happen in other sites BTW. Anyhow I came here because of another well known mobile audio site. It's not too bad, BUT I like this place more!

I want one!
Thanks for pointing that out Andrew. I thought that CoCooks had a double baffle. No I do not want a double baffle. I want it just like CoCooks! BTW what will this box cost? I am local so I will not need shipping. I can pick up. Thanks again Andrew! Hey Andrew (Argent Audio), I was thinking about the color scheme of the box to be built by you folks at Argent Aud. Is it OK to get the box carpet BLACK (my trunk carpet is BLK), AND also to make the color of the Kerf port light gray? That way the awesome looking kerf port stands out against the black carpet! BTW I am ready to send you a deposit or whatever you need to get this box build started. Just let me know if I should PM you my info or call it in. I am excited to see the final product ... Thanks! re-Q5 vs LC6i
So I am trying to figure out which LOC is best. I know about the 3SIXTY, CleanSweep, and new MS-8. I'm not really looking for anything that complicated. I want to retain my factory steering wheel functions, sat. radio, bluetooth func. etc. I really believe in the modo, K.I.S.S.=Keep It Simple Stupid. Because of this I was dead set on the Audio Control LC6iBUT just found out about the re-Q5. Now I'm unsure which is best, and more importantly best for me. 1st the re-Q5 is just a bit more than the LC6i but still with-in my budget. The fact that it is said to even out the bass output at all volume levels seems like it could be usefull if the factory h/u tunes the bas freq. down to prevent speaker damage. I suppose that's the key difference between the two. I have a '10 VW CC with the RCD 510 VW h/u and don't know if it tunes bass freq. down this way. BTW this LOC will be connecting to a 5-6 channel amp like the ZED Leviathan. Which in turn will power two sets of Image Dynamics CTX65CS, and one 12" SSA DCON S4. Anyhow any input or experiences with both, or either LOCs will be greatly appreciated! TIA

good rim brands
ok cool i will check them out Don't know if you got your new wheels. BTW there are some car enthusiast who will take issue with the word RIMS. they prefer wheels. Anyhow that aside telling a 16 y.o. kid with his 1st car not to buy wheels for his new ride is like telling me not to spend $ on new car audio in my new car. "Huh? What? Can't hear you ... " However if looks is what you want then go for it. Plan on doing any performance upgrades or audio? Then prioritize. I'd say (opinion) performance upgrades such as springs and shocks, chips, intake exhaust, etc. should be 1st. You will have the most fun driving a better performing car. 2nd wheels or car audio. I know I am in a car audio forum so to many audio would be 1st. Me? I am older (40) but feel 16 when it comes to cars and women. I got a new car and am very happy w/ it's performance so plan nothing other than a ECU flash (aka chip) to draw more HP/Torque from the engine. Need to properly break-in the engine so that will wait. For now I am working on piecing together my car audio. The stock system is sub par.The car came with nice 18' wheels and a body kit so all is good there also. BUT get the wheels. Whatever you want to do, do it. Just do it right, and be safe. Your here researching so you are smarter than your average 16 yo. Have fun your only 16 once. Oh and BTW get a little action w/the girls going on. I know cars are cool and all but girls were NOT built the way they are now so don't miss out on that by paying attention to you car more than them. In other words make good use of you back seat! Like I said before just be safe!!! Hahaha ...

amp problems
Reviving this older thread because I am in the market and I am seriously considering this amp. Anyone from SSA or ZED want to chime in. Has this bug been ironed out? So basically if I purchase now am I going to possibly have this issue also? I really like the amp so far (on paper), so I hope it's all good now! TIA

Might be a dumb question, but ...
Thanks! You'd think I old by my post ... well I am a bit old (40), but I feel (in my mind) like a kid. Specially when it comes to new toys like Car Audio stuff! :wacky:

I'm on a roll ...
Once again this might be a dumb question ... I think I am mostly just confirming what I already know: I am piecing together components for a new system in my VW CC. I plan on getting the Image Dynamic CTX65CS comps rated at 100w RMS - 200w MAX. I was also planning on the new Kenwood 5 channel amp which put out 80w RMS - 150w MAX. Perfect for the ID comps I thought. I recently did learn about the ZED Leviathan 6 channel amp. This amp looks awesome! Although I am on a budget, it looks very worthwhile to spend a bit extra and get this amp over the Kenwood. The Zed amp is rated at 150w RMS. Don't know what the MAX power is on the ZED. BTW anyone know what the bridged power is at 4 ohms on the ZED? SO my question is ... Too much power for the ID CTX65CS? I seem to remember that I have read somewhere that it is recommended (for good a good amount of headroom) to get twice the recommended RMS power the speakers call for? Don't know if I remember that correctly. I know this isn't twice the power but it is more, and definitely over the recommended RMS power. Let me know what you think or more importantly what you know! TIA

Might be a dumb question, but ...
I did an install way back, maybe 15 years ago on an 88 Nissan p/u. New speaker wire all around, two amps, amp board behind seat, tho whole enchilada. The 1st time i ever attempted such a thing. My p/u had a fiberglass shell that attached to the cab via a rubber boot. There was a carpet kit in the bed of the truck which held my sealed box with two 10" JL subs powered by an old school Rockford amp (Punch DSM). I had Pioneers for speakers powered by another Rockford 4 way. A set of 6.5's in the doors, and a set of 6x9's in the back installed into the carpet kits cubbys that it had. I also use an external 6 channel MTX crossover. I was in college. It was definitely a budget build, but it was nice. I was proud. ANYHOW why do I give you all this background. Reminiscing a bit, and because I installed thick(I thought it was at the time) 4 gauge power cable, with a in-line fuse right close to the battery. So FINALLY my question. These days when you take a car to a good/reputable car audio install shop do they do the same by running a new power line directly to the battery with the in-line fuse close to the battery? OR these days have they figured out a way to powering equipment differently. Maybe tap into some other line somewhere? I dunno ... I am from the school(old) where I would do all the work myself on my car and install a whole audio system. These day the cars are more complicated and I just don't have the nerve to try an install or even change the oil for that matter. I have a new VW CC and plan on a new system. I am actually piecing the parts now. It's not going to be a complicated set-up. Just a 5-channel amp (total 1200 - 1800w MAX), and LOC. Those are the pieces that will require new power. TIA

I want one!
So I commented on CoCook83's build for his SSA DCON 12". Another person suggested I start a new thread. Good idea! The box that Argent Audio built for CoCook83 is awesome to say the least. I have been searching the web and local shops for just the right box builder. As luck would have it I discovered SSA, the forum, and ArgentA. A plus is that AA is local! I am buying the SSA 12" DCON S4 sub and want a box built to specs just like ArgentA. built for CoCook83. At one point I was thinking of a none rectangular shaped box. See pic at the end of CoCook83's 2nd page of his box build. Anyhow I nixed that idea. I just figured I could make the most of the space in my trunk. Anyhow I am back to the regular rectangular box shape. Built to SSA specs for the DCON 12" sub in it's OPTIMAL Ported Enclosure dimensions, w/a internal Volume of 2.25 ft^3, port area: 32.50 in^2, tuned to 30 Hz, w/kerf port/vent, double baffle, flush mount, that charcoal colored carpet, etc. etc. Basically a copy of CoCook83's box! So ... like my topic title says ... "I want one!" Let me know what I got to do to get the ball rolling Argent Audio! I feel like a kid in a candy store.

Song List With Hz Range.
Disclaimer: I am no expert on this stuff. This is mostly just what I have learned through my experience as a DJ in the pro-audio world. First I would say that clipping on a amp and clipping on a track are two different things. Clipping on a track (analyzed w/Audacity or MP3Gain) really might just translates to parts of the song being slightly distorted at any volume. Mostly you will not be able to hear any of the clipping unless you are using audiophile level equipment. Unless you turn up the dB level with MP3Gain for instance. Say to 110dB. This will make the track sound bad at ANY volume. Distorted. Now clipping on an amp is a whole different thing. Here is what wiki says: Clipping is a form of waveform distortion that occurs when an amplifier is overdriven and attempts to deliver an output voltage or current beyond its maximum capability. Driving an amplifier into clipping may cause it to output power in excess of its published ratings. This translates to bad sound and may cause damage to both speakers and amp if it is prolonged. Now occasional clipping(a little blink of the red light infrequently) is not an issue usually. Usually just a part of a track that is basically really loud. Like I said I am not an expert. But dealing with clipping and tracks as a DJ in the pro-audio world I try and lower the dB on the tracks with MP3Gain (I use 92 dB) just so I get a good quality sounding track. On my equipment I follow the basic Gain Structure procedure (look it up there is info all over the net about this) to set my gains on all of my equipment. What this means basically is I want my equipment to go as loud as possible and not distort. I want headroom without going into clipping on my amps. Also getting the gain structure right will also eliminate the noise(usually hiss) , which diminishes the SQ over all. Like I said not an expert but I do dabble in this as a DJ and it translates to car audio as well. I think your set-up is probably ok. I wouldn't worry about it. As long as it sounds good to you then that's all that really matters.
