  1. I feel bad for you. My wife has this car and it sucks.
  2. I hate threads like this. Just show us the full product and specs
  3. Nice whip. I pan on getting an older 'stang someday.
  4. Remind me why people do this.
  5. I did not read that they will use the same same enclosure as the SA series. I did read that the Z.4 will use the same size enclosure as the Z.3 and can go 50% larger for more low end efficiency. Here is a good quote to go by. If budget allows it, the Z.4 does everything better on the same power compared to the X due to the Z.4 motor design.
  6. Another set of unused subs Get Z.4's and be done.
  7. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oK7K_NYm7G4
  8. How does it sound? Any mods to the front stage?
  9. I am willing to give them a second ...err third try.
  10. BTW a sub install designed for SQ doesn't sound like it is coming from the back of the car
  11. Hook them up and listen to them. if you like them keep them if not disconnect them. You can also use your fader adjustment to tailor it to your taste.
  12. Really depends on enclosure tuning and goals. If the op plans on playing below tuning the larger xmech on the Z.4 could be and advantage over the X on the same power.
  13. If the softparts hit xmax at 30mm then that would equal xmech. The softparts go up to 50mm one-way on the Z.4 IIRC. Linear xmax on the prototype is around 30mm.
  14. Yikes. Going with more cone area?
  15. I was definitely over due for new running shoes. I bought more Asics than any other brand. I did not shop for a certain brand this time around. This is my first pair of Brooks. I run 12-16 miles per week. This gives me the ability to eat my wifes cooking without getting fat
  16. If this subsection is not appropriate for this, delete this thread. edit...spellling
  17. I needed new pair of running shoes badly. I have a high arch and neutral pronation. I tried on a few different brand shoes and bought a pair of Brooks Ghost 6. The Ghost 6 fit my arch the best and has very good comfort without excessive padding. What really set this shoe apart is the flexibility of the sole at the toe area. Flexing my foot, standing on my tip toes, there is very little resistance from the shoe. This is the first shoe that I experienced this with. I'll update in month or so after i have +40 miles on them.
  18. I like your design goals: high xmax, low fs and small enclosure. You really nailed it when you referred to old school subwoofer design (higher fs using cabin gain) and your approach to the evolved car audio scene. Your line-up should sell very well as long as you ha ve no customer service build house issues. I am eagerly looking forward to seeing/reading more! P.S. I also really appreciate you sharing technical details about design parameters. I have 100% more respect for you and other (Sundown) like minded companies than those that go to an build house to design their product for them.
  19. I never used a hammer crimper. I believe that a hydraulic crimper would be easier to use. Price wise the hydraulic crimper maybe more expensive. I think i bought mine at Harbor Freight for ~$20.00. I never had any issues with mine and have had it at used it for years.
  20. Nice sub man. I have been dying to hear a BL. I can not get it to model well in WinISD. Kinda makes me think it is very peaky around tuning and more geared for SPL. I could be full of shiit....
  21. There isn't much room lost, maybe 9-10" of depth. A pair of 12's would be shallower yet.
  22. Thanks my man. You need a demo
  23. Ordering: The Fi Audio website is easy to navigate. From the time I ordered the subs until the arrived at my house was around two weeks. Unboxing impression: The motors and surround are large. These are no heavy weight contenders but for IB use they are beefy. The surround lets you know that these are high xmax drivers. Install: I am using two IB315's powered by a Sundown Audio SAZ1500D v.3 @ 1 ohm and they are mounted IB in my 2008 Hyundai Elantra. The motors are facing the back seat. I use different settings for SQ and daily listening. For SQ I am using a 40hz/12db high pass and 50hz@18db low pass with a -13db cut on my H/U. This unusual cross over setting is the only way I was able to tame a heavily boosted low end. Dual 15" subwoofers with a high qts and small trunk in my vehicle is what dictated this. My JL Audio 8" midbass drivers mounted in the kicks help blend the subs into the front stage. For daily listening I use a 20hz/18db high pass with a 80hz/36db low pass with a -3db cut on my H/U. This gives me a heavily boosted low end. I often bump the sub bass level down on my H/U even for daily listening. Listening conclusion: I never had an install that produced 20-30hz frequencies to this extent. The overall SPL level isnt the loudest but the music reproduction under 30hz is nuts. I am very impressed with the design of these woofers. There are no mechanical noises and they soak up every watt of the 1500D. As with the unusual DSP settings I find the power consumption of the IB315's to be unusual for this class of driver. Most IB subs are not this power hungry. The design goal for the IB3 series is evident to be superior sub bass reproduction at a relatively high SPL level. Having a high QTS they may perform even better in a larger trunk or as a true infinite baffle setup in home or theater that may require less EQ and xover adjustment. For a SQ install two of the IB315 is certainly overkill. There is enough output to easily overcome the front stage. Conclusion: In my small sedan I do not see it possible to achieve this level of reproduction from 20-30hz while maintaining full use of the cargo area and spare tire. 30-80hz is impressive as well but the overall SPL level could be higher with typical ported enclosure sub stage. IMO 20-30hz with this much authority is very impressive and hard to achieve. From a biased SQ perspective this area of the sub stage requires heavy tuning. A battle of both worlds Pics: (I am using custom carbon fiber dustcaps)
  24. Yeah, just 1 ZV4.15. Goals for the front stage are to keep up with the sub stage while still maintining crisp and clean if i chose to turn the sub off and just enjoy the front stage. I realize you cant have SPL and SQ, but id like to retain my stock locations and keep the front stage concealed to the eye. I disagree with whomever told you that you can not achieve good sound quality while getting loud. Many installs that use HLCD and pro audio midbass drivers get nuts loud and have an excellent sound stage. Granted this level of install takes a lot more than throwing a component in the doors. So yes you can have a good imaging sound stage that gets loud as fawk. How much money do you have set aside for your front stage and how good are your install skills? One of the aspects of a well performing sound quality install is midbass. When people use the term "up front bass" what they are really describing is their midbass. Without good midbass you will never be able to blend your sub stage in with the front stage. This gives you the affect of your subbass as sounding to come from around you or in front of you versus behind you. In this area you may find the most difficult in the install. Pro audio midbass drivers coupled with a loud substage will knock your socks off (literally). But then again, how much money and skills you got? To properly incorporate a pro audio midbass driver it isn't easy but definitely doable. So........your goal maybe to have "good sounding" front stage or an "SQ" front stage. Which one do you want? I know that Sundown but a lot of R&D into their 6.5 component set. This maybe a good drop-in replacement in your stock locations for a "good sounding" front stage. Or HLCD and pro audio midbass for a "knock-your-socks-off" SQ install. Obviously the latter is much more expensive and difficult to install and tune. BTW turning the sub off and enjoying the front stage sucks IMO Why would you want to listen t only part off the music?
