Man I wish I could carpet a box that good!- High Output Alternator Questions
There was more said that what you are hearing. There were multiple possibilities given as to why you are having voltage issues. I do not know why you would buy a new battery without getting your existing one tested first. Again, something that I already mentioned.- Need as answer frro you guys..
I have dealt with way too many alt manufacturers. Through my experiences Ohio Generator has always had great customer service and an excellent product. Give them a call!- Dayton Audio EMM-6 Mic, ART preamp, 25' XLR cable
Still available.- High Output Alternator Questions
The length of your ground doesnt matter as long as you use the appropriate size gaug (bigger than needed is always better, least resistance) wire for the total amplifier current draw. Ground wire length is a huge misconception. Grounding your alt to battery will do nothing. You already have an upgraded engine ground.- High Output Alternator Questions
If you decide to add a ground wire use as large as you possibly can. 2/0 welding cable works great for car audio.- High Output Alternator Questions
Like I said voltage fluctuation will happen. The smaller pulley on your new h.o. alt should help it at idle but possibly the alt rpm still isn't high enough to get good amperage out of it at idle. That could just be how it is. Your battery reserve seems low. Voltage maybe ok but that doesn't mean that the battery is in good shape. Can you take you vehicle into a reputable repair shop and have them load test your battery? This would help you decide if a new battery would be helpful. Since you have a uni-body I recommend you run a dedicated ground wire from the front battery to your subwoofer amplifier or ground distribution block. And as mentioned, clean up your battery terminals and check all connections.- Shorting ring?
For the Icon, we wanted to bump up the motor strength with the new model, we could add a shorting ring down the road after sometime and modeling/testing etc. with an updated version. But it will only add more machining time and more cost to an already VERY costly to build driver in it's respective market segment, for factional gains in lowered inductance that customers have not shown any signs of wanting yet. The Evil plays so flat and clean as it stands, it does not need it. Side note, the Evil needs less juice to get up and rolling from the start then the Zcon. It is unfortunate that sound quality is an after thought for most buyers. Which I am sure is why the market is more biased towards spl. I would love to see Klippel results for all SSA drivers That would answer a few questions some folks have like myself.- Shorting ring?
Ok. I wasnt sure if the icon or evil did.- High Output Alternator Questions
Three letters.....PCM. Your vehicle's computer controls alternator output. Voltage dips and spikes will still happen. If voltage drops under 13.6-13.8 and stays there look at your amplifer wiring. Specifically, is your ground good? Also how are you measuring voltage? Vehicle at idle?- Shorting ring?
The xcon is the only one with a shorting ring?- EMF Audio Ermagerd 15
I think car audio is crossing the line where products are being designed (and sold) to specifications way above what the normal enthusiast can use. Take this sub for instance: $1400, over 100lbs, 6500wrms. Not many people can afford and properly use this. Yikes, I don't even want to think about the size of enclosure this will need. What is the design goal for this sub? I doubt it will be usefull for sq or serious spl comp.- EMF Audio Ermagerd 15
Looks like an over glorified 15" sub to me. Not very original either since partly looks like a Sundown knock-off. Ftmfl.- Rick's build log
Rick, Dayton makes truncated plates that will help minimize the mounting diameter of those large tweeters.- FTW-21 subwoofer for home audio!
Looks like some big subs are coming to the market. Stereo Integrity is releasing a 24" with 35mm xmax- Shorting ring?
The rest of the product line I'm not sure about off-hand, I'll leave that for Mark or Aaron. I missed that.- Shorting ring?
I was looking through ssa products and none of them mention a shorting ring in the description. Do any of the ssa subwoofers use a shorting ring?- Sundown Audio SD-2 eIGHT SQ Bass for ALL
Great review. Thanks! I also always thought that Sundown packaging was excellent. The form fitting foam pieces should be standard packaging for all subwoofer companies.- Fi Q10, Hornresp, D.A.T.S, vs. Me :)
