Peaking on high frequency
@ chris the man May I ask where you see a comparison? You dont, because there isnt one. I can bring up two drivers in a post without comparing them. I was simply saying that I am not satisfied with the HDC3s performance (yes, the hdc3, I do know which driver I own) and taking advantage of skars trade in program may be a good idea. Before you act like Im completely ignorant, read twice so you will better understand what I am trying to say.

18" AA Havoc in 2002 Grand Prix
Go sealedddd!! It may still be a squeeze with 2 15" Icons but you will be impressed with the output despite being sealed. You will also have a more accurate low end by going sealed.

2 10" Ported, 2 12" Sealed, or 1 15" Ported?? - 2010 ICONS
Like everyone is saying already, a higher tuning would be to your benefit. Just reduce the port length on your design and you should be good to go! Good luck man

Peaking on high frequency
yeah I understand. Hopefully Kevin at Skar wouldnt mind taking this driver off my hands so I can see how the new VVX-12s sound. Hopefully I will be able to achieve the low end output that was lacking with the AQ.

Peaking on high frequency
Not so accurately haha. I have simply guessed based on what I hear and have heard from test tones. I could be a few hz off obviously but the peak is more than noticable.

Peaking on high frequency
I started a thread recently in which I got some good advice about specs for new box. I was told that I needed to build a new box with a higher tuning(37-39 hz) to accomodate my AQ driver. After building the new box, the driver has become irritatingly peaky. It hits a 45 hz note very well but drops off significantly on lower notes (30-32 hz). What can I do to eliminate, or atleast decrease, the peak?

Extending port of Pre-Fab ported box
This is probably because the re calculator is for L ported boxes which yours was not.

help on sub choice!!!!!
i have one battery already for free. the guy i bought the 9500's from gave me one that he had. he said the boat batteries from wal-mart work better than optima batteries and cost alot less. he had 2 of these walmart batteries and his lights barley dimmed and he had 2500 TRUE watts being drawn. he had stock alt. and no big 3. Barely dimming is still dimming lol. Theres no excuse for somebody who is running a 2500 watt setup to not have the big 3 done. That is just careless and lazy. In addition, boat batteries are certainly not made for audio. Batteries specific to audio are made to for the high current draw so they will better suit your needs. Last thing, there is no use in gettin a shitload of batteries if your stock alt will not keep up.

help on sub choice!!!!!
If you do go this route you need to do some serious upgradesss with your electrical. actually, starting friday, im beginning of the big 3 upgrade. also when i bought the 2 9500's, the guy GAVE me a free deep cycle battery so i think i should be good after that right? Theoretically, you should be alright with the big 3 in 1/0 gauge and an additional batt(assuming its not crap) for one zx1500.1. However, if you are planning on a second, you may want to consider a h/o alt and another additional battery. Complete your install and check your voltage with a voltmeter. As far as I know, youre going to want to be above 12 volts, preferably closer to 14 volts.

What would you do?
Bold^^ but hey, it's all personal preference.

What To Get First
well ask yourself this... Do I have the expertise to wire an amp up to a stock headunit? I know that I would have some difficulty so Im sure you would too considering you started a thread asking people whether you should buy one item before the other. If you were planning on having some audio shop set you up, why would you spend the extra money if youre planning on changing ur head unit?

New Box Ideas
After runningg through swaggs camry build, Im inspired to build a nice looking kerfed ported box. Are there any audible benefits to a kerfed port compared to a normal straight edged port?

help on sub choice!!!!!
Exactlyyy. If you are set on walling it off than you should definitely go with the btl even two if you can afford a second sub and amp. well not only do i not have enough money for another btl 18, i odnt have the power. i had 1 12" mtx 9500 on my kicker zx1500.1 and my lights dim more than u can believe. pluse, i was told that in order to make the 1 18 btl i have sound right, my box would have to take up the whole back of the cab of my truck which would bake the box around 7.5CF so i really couldnt put another 18 in there if i wanted to lol and iv always wanted to wall off my set-ups but iv never had the tools, or nice subs to do that with. for christmas this past year, i have all the tools i need. iv always had like cvr's or stuff like that. its just recently that i have actually had some subs worth walling off. Well if you dont want to sacrifice 7 cubes, then remove the Btl from the options. Then, you would be left with the XXX 15. However, walling one 15 will definitely be a little strange. I feel like walling a car off is going to the ultimate degree, in a sense, and I do not believe it is necessary to go through the trouble for one 15. Maybe you should wait until you have the money to pick up new subs. In the meantime, you could build yourself a solid box for the XXX and bump until you hqve the funding. Just dont go crazy with the volume its really not good to stress your electrical. well hate to break yalls hearts but i just sold my fi 18 and the L7's. im putting my re xxx 15 in my 1965 mustang for shows. i actually doubt ill hook it up. BUT for my truck on the other hand, i just picked up 2 12" mtx 9500's. each sub is getting about 850 TRUE watts. so do u think these 12's would be worth walling off? I still wouldnt wall off two 12s. I mean, its completely up to you but I still think that I would only go with a wall if I had maybe 2 15s. You could always try to keep the box below the window line and through in a few aeroports firing up. For example, and

Help!!! Torn between my options!! N
Loud with 2 21"dp's is much different than loud with 2 12" Li's. So, why are you opposed to turning down the volume but open to a system with lesser output? Also, on the same note, 2 12" wont satisfy you if you can't live without the output of two monster drivers. Since you enjoy what you have at the moment, aside from the destruction, your best bet is to deaden the hell out of your ride like most are saying.

Cerwin Vega STROKER-102
To answer you question, cerwin vega is a reliable audio company unlike some other companies. The subwoofer should be fairly reliable but I cannot inform you on how it may perform against other similar drivers.

SAKR 12'S
Yea man, I understand exactly where you are coming from. But, rather than try to squeeze information out of him, I figured I would answer his question as simply as possible. If he wants better advice, he can add more information.

SAKR 12'S
Before this thread takes a turn for the worst, 3.6 cubes will work just fine with 2 vvx 12s. They will be louder than your two sa-8s, assuming you dont do anything extremely wrong as far installation. If you really hit 136 with the two 8s, you should, theoretically, have a good chance at 140. Nothing more to say.

Help with sub choice what do you think is best?
thiss guy^^ haha. As far as peak wattage, dont concern yourself with it. If the rms is 400 watts, take it for what it is. If you already have an amp that may be too much power, be careful with your gain and volume control.

* Ask Don of SDS *
Since installing my new components, I have been hearing fairly prominent rattling coming from my doors. I was just wondering if this rattling has to do with my panels resonating or could it just be the plastic snap on peices that come standard in most vehicles (window controls and surrounding plastic pieces)? If it turns out to be my panels, would the CLD tiles be enough to significantly reduce the resonating?

BUILD LOG Explorer limo 6 IB3s walled 300 cubic feet 50"x12"x3
Dude, do you mind sending me some money if you have this much to blow? Aside from the few arseho comments, everyone one here is trying to help you. Is there a particular reason why you are set on infinite baffle woofers?

What would you do?
you could always try to sell it.... If not, you could wall it with two fifteens if you are trying to impress.

Fi Audio Subwoofer Comparisons
Slightly off topic but why would fosgate manufacturers build their amps with a predetermined subsonic filter? Back on topic- I would suggest two 12 inch SSDs for your particular case. They will sound great and get loud for under $400 which is what you want according to your first post. With the stock 160 amp alt and the big 3 you could quite possibly be alright as far as electrical. If not you could always add another battery or two for a couple hundred buckss. The SSDs would also be favorable if you have to purchase a new amplifier a nice 1500w amp could be sufficiently cheaper than a 2000w amp.
