He means if you are able to identify the stress yourself, then you can set it to 30. If your not sure whether the sub is stressed or not, set it to 35.
  3. I own an ssd and a bl, The ssd was ran in a sealed box and ported and the BL still sounds more musical in my latest ported box. I listen to bass heavy music and metal, and it plays both those styles exceptionally well, it drops very low and is very responsive on fast double bass.
  4. Yes i realize frequency must be the same, and i believe your inner hear has a dampening mechanism for the lower frequencies correct? Is this the switch your talking about?
  5. Ok, so what you are saying is that a system that creates an audibly louder experience should meter louder if enough testing with mic placement and peak frequencies are done? The reason that 145's dont all sound the same is because the numbers measured are just a small analysis of a much bigger picture?
  6. How do these variations in cabin space cause us to hear and experience something different from what the meter reads. If the reflections in the space are cause the waves to amplify then why do they not meter higher since they carrie more energy? Im talking about how a 145 might feel louder than a 145 in another vehicle.
  7. The minimum port area i calculated was 30, and i almost doubled it to great success.
  8. Alpine pdx m-12 keep an eye on ebay for deals like this. be patient and make a purchase that wont be regretted. This is just one example, u were given a list of other 2 ohm stable amps on the other thread so search for them on ebay and make an intelligent purchase.
  9. btw the BL loves port area, my 12 has 55.5 square inches of port and it is very happy in its home haha. My previous box had only 30 sq inches and now it really sounds amazing with more port.
  10. That turns out to be about 4.6 cubes gross, you need to determine how big of a box you can fit through your trunk opening, or can you fold your back seats and fit it there?
  11. I might have missed something, but i dont think anyone mentioned that running a larger amp such as a 2000 watt will most likely require electrical upgrades to support it.
  12. Well the jury is still out. im 2 dbs lower with 2 10 vs 1 12 . go figure Better box
  13. Oh the joys of making a port right Yup haha, now its time to get this thing metered trying to learn as much as i can quickly about enclosure design because my cousin is interested in a N3 I've done a lot if N3 enclosure modeling, the best response will be through a 6th order bandpass, they tend to peak hard within 5 Hz. of tuning. Is that what you have yours in? Ill do some modeling with them as well. Also, is there any reading material that particularly helped with your build, and if so, can you direct me to it? Thanks man. i think i should go crack open my dads fluid dynamics book lol That is what I will be doing mine in, if I can manage to get it all to fit. There is tons of reading material that can help Yes, i have a lot of reading to do, unfortunately the semester begins monday so it will be difficult to find the time to read about woofers and enclosures. Ill be to busy studying for classes and tailgating at football games Go Tigers!

  16. Just wanted to throw out that me and my cousin built our first box with a kerfed port, turned out great but i still have to do a few things to do to it. The net volume is 2.1 cubes and the port displaces 1.9 LMAO. Big ole port makes big ole sound, its plays flatter, louder, and punchier on double bass that my last box that was a little over 2.5 cubes net, im very pleased. Its tuned a little higher and plays just as low also. Woop woop!
  17. Thats really elegant looking, it just needs some powa now
  18. damn look at all that ass on them 10's!
  19. Great post, you guys are awesome!
  20. Thanks guys, i was in Lafayette and picked up a pair of yamahas rh5ma, they were only $60 bucks so i was able to pick up a few more things for my guitar as well haha. They sound great to me although i didnt try many out. Im happy with them and as long as i dont hear any higher end models i dont think i will regret this purchase lol.
  21. That shatter gard looks like no joke. In the demo videos it withstood a c4 explosion sending 1/4 in steel balls at the window. The window shattered but was held together by the film preventing any penetration. Now how would it stand up against a sledge hammer? Either way its an interesting product that looks to be effective in its application.
  22. Do some reading about 4th order bps, then compare the T/S parameters for the sub that is better suited, since the T/S parameters are there to be able to compare woofers anyway.
