Prototype Big Boy SPL Motor
Not really - just that all my current Nightshades in 12s and 15s are pre-built "stock" and I only brought in a couple of extra motors, and no 18" baskets. I bought some baskets from Fi and DC (thanks Scott and Rusty) to build some 18s for Team guys and a few dealers... and now I'm out of 18" baskets and extra Nightshade motors until I get more in. I'm going to transition to Nightshades and "higher" being built custom to order so I don't end up over-stocked on certain sizes and not having any of other sizes.

I got me some twins!
Great, glad they are working out for you! Your 3000s are still keeping me up at night... I'm very interested to test them.

Yah, these will ALL be made to order. So - 12s, 15s, 18s. Once I get more baskets and motors the Nightshades will be built to order as well and the 18s will become available.

Prototype Big Boy SPL Motor
I agree... I went through about 10 factories trying to find someone to build the SAE line. The Chinese make fine motors in my experience, being that they make almost all the parts anyway for motors assembled in other countries

The motors are Chinese built to my specifications - the soft parts, glues, and coils are American. Regardless of assembly point almost all motor parts will come from China anyway - especially magnets. Almost all baskets come from China as well, as will these.

The standard coil will be good for music -- the 10-layer coil will probably have so much BL it'll be useless for music.

Oh yah, it is a 15" basket.

This is the standard coil I'm testing with it:

Prototype Big Boy SPL Motor
Yessir! I'm testing some trickery in the motor to get the most thermal handling from the 3" coil Which is why there aren't any more pictures right now. I'll be sure to post test results when I start getting some. The "standard" coil is an 8-layer round, and I will be testing a 10-layer flat coil for SPL burps - could take a while to get it just right, but it'll be an option. These will all be custom to order drivers - whatever # of spiders, two different cone types (maybe more later), two coil type options (maybe a third option, copper coil for lower Fs), and two impedance options (at first, maybe more later). This is my first round prototype, so, if I find my 3" coil / cooling tricks don't get it where I want the next step is a 4" coil.

10" diameter slugs, triple stacked. The pole flare is a bit shallower and narrower than I wanted... but we'll see how it does with testing. I have the coils, spiders, cones, etc waiting for it here! Picture is from the factory, it's on the way to me soon Not showing the other side of the motor yet, sorry guys! And before anyone asks... no ETA on production, I still haven't tested this prototype yet!

SAZ-1500D POWER TESTING
at 1ohm, the efficiency is 68%.. would the efficiency of the amp remain at 68% throughout its POWER range? e.g. supposed i strap a pair of 1500Ds, but only use around 2500-3000Wrms from them.. would using less power yield a greater efficiency? thanks That is 1 ohm strapped - or 1/2 ohm per amp. Efficiency will be roughly the same at lower power levels - although, likely marginally higher in the low 70s.

Indeed - I can't find *anything* that will cause an amp to do what you are describing. I'll talk to Fen when he gets back and I'll just have to look at your amps myself.

SAX-100.4 SQ?
Alright, let us know I know I like them, wouldn't sell them if I didn't... and I've use Esoteric Audio and Linear Power in the past to compare to.

I don't think it is a voltage issue - a low voltage condition (extreme low voltage) will cause the amps not to show any lights at all. I'm really not sure what could be going on right at this moment - except for an anomaly with the turn-on procedure being used, eg: rapidly turning the amp on and off out of sync with the HU and engine. I'm going to see if I can determine anything on Monday.

SAX-100.4 SQ?
Should be... heres a review for you: *edit* Fixed link *edit* http://forum.realmofexcursion.com/showthre...sundown+audison He posted that last year, was not a Sundown dealer (he was and is an Audison dealer) - he bought the 100.4 from me and has asked me fairly recently about information on becoming a dealer. So, I think that speaks pretty highly when a dealer of a high-end name like Audison is interested in them

Did you also turn the amp on with the supply or was it still turned on by the deck ?

You certainly have something going on that I've never heard of before under any circumstance. Of course, I am also not aware of anyone else that uses your turn-on procedure with turning the deck on after the vehicle and turning the amp on and off so quickly - seems like a very odd configuration. I'll wait to see what Exonic says when he tests them, and I'll see if I can cause an amp to act that way somehow on my test bench on Monday.

Is it correct that it works fine when it powers on normally with the car and ONLY has any issues when you restart the amp ?
-
actual output from sundown 100.2 and 100.4?
Yep.
-
actual output from sundown 100.2 and 100.4?
Yes, they do rated power at 12.8 volts.

This is the first I've heard of any such issue in hundred and hundreds of these amps shipped all over the world - so if there is a problem with the amp I'd be interested to know what it is. Especially, since you tried two amps. I have not received contact from my Trinidad distributor about your amps - but I'd be interested to look @ them. I just find it incredibly hard to imagine you have two amps in a row with an issue I've never seen before on any amp in any model I sell - on amps that I pre-tested before shipment.
-
will this cause a heating issue?
I'd put it on the opposite site of the slits, so the fan draws air from the slits, across the amp, and out of the cavity. Doesn't matter which side of the amp that is, really.
