  1. I think if Steve wants to make devices to help kids from destorying equipment. How about something to help set subsonic filters or he's own filter for amps that have none. As noobs are even more confused about subsonic filter than clipping. And this causes just as many failures as clipping. Meh...
  2. Agreed. Probably because Meade is helping work on it. Everytime I've seen his name mentioned on here, its been followed by numerous bashes (*cough* M5). I guess they're just haters.... I dunno I don't see M5 pick and choose things to discuss. He is the same regardless name or brand. So just because you have been in threads where Steve's name been in, and seen M5 reply, doesn't mean he doesn't post on the rest of the forum. You starting to show your SMD forum side, thinks people "bash" for whatever reason. You should know SSA isn't about bullshit, and doesn't sugar coat or let bullshit fly. As far as hating on Steve, why would anybody? Just because he's popular, anybody that disagree's with anything that has to do with him, their classified as a "Hater". Which makes no sense.
  3. I guess its the same as caps. Almost every company has one, and how they are marketed doesn't do the user any good.
  4. If your competing, why would one care about having a clipfree setup? That doesn't seem like a good example. And your saying its fool-proof, but that's not true. It does require some basic knowledge to use it, and most that will use it, should be able to use a Oscope also.

I'm disappointed in not getting Neo SSD's, but can understand if its going to cost that much. Why did NEO all of a sudden jump in price?
  6. M5, regardless if in reality this device doesn't really help anybody, half of his forum and good bit of followers, will buy this product. And think they have a clip free setup, and I wouldn't be surprised if they inreturn pushed there setup harder than if not knowing it is clipfree(supposely) and end up blowing equipment. Regardless to a extent, clipping isn't what burns voicecoils. Even though people will swear it does. Common Sense> SMDs Clipping Device.
  7. Neo shorting ring? Supercharging? I need more details on these...
  8. I would assume it works the sameway instead of showing you the wave, you give you a light.
  9. What he said. I just think if you need expensive tools to tell you when your shit's about to break then hit the internet, library or whatever and do some reading or something. And yes 302, if you're clipping and can't hear it it's 100% cool as long as nothing breaks. Not everybody needs to be in the round wave club. It gets bad when you start breaking stuff. If nothing breaks. Lol. Well isn't that suppose to be the point of trying to keep everything from clipping? I mean I know a sqaure wave doesn't automatically kill a sub. But it will cause it to break faster. And still there has been debates on this for years. I'm not sure what your trying to prove. Most people with general knowlegde understands this. Like I said in my other post to you, people center out clipping for others who don't really know any better.
  10. I hope that was a joke. As you can't hear the beginning of a square wave on a subwoofer. My headunit clips at 31, out of 35. And I could never hear it start at 31. It clipped at 35 regardless of what I had the sub output control on. -/+15. So on negative 15 on volume 35, it is a clipped signal, even though it doesn't put out hardly any voltage.( I can't remember the exact number.) Just a example that I've came across. I have a Kenwood X789 if anybody is wondering. If you can't hear it...and it isn't damaging anything...then what's the problem? The sub itself masks clipping up to a certain percent (can't remember off the top of my head) so you wouldn't notice anyway. Having a 10000% clip-free system isn't as cool as people make it out to be. So your saying, as long as you can't hear clipping your in the good? Thing about it, the ones who need to worry about clipping, has no idea what it sounds like. Sure, people center around clipping a little more than needed, but this is to try and teach people who doesn't fully understand it. It doesn't really doesn't have to do with having a 100% clipped free setup, but to the people running over RMS full square wave to a driver. But it does make people automatically think clipping is the worst possible thing, and no driver can handle a soft clip. Which isn't totally true. I've never been one to set everything to be clip free, and yet I've never had any problems. I have played around with a Oscope to answer some curiosty I had, and it did surprise me on how easy it is to clip and not even know it.

I'm ready to see the new USA made basket, that is affordable. I know another company has one, but its a unGodly amount they want for it.
  12. A simple pop with a 9v battery test will clear up if you have a coil wired out of phase. And this should be the FIRST thing to do. Just because the impedance you measured if correct doesn't meant its wired in phase correctly. Please do this ASAP before doing anything else. This will cause the sub to move, get hot, but not be loud at all. I can't believe you ask for help, get suggestions, then do whatever you think will clear up the question. A pop test would of been just as easy as measuring the overall impedance. Yet what you done didn't help you much.

  14. Nice find. That's awesome looking. I have a handheld oscope I bought for 120 still brand new off ebay. Really, that SMD device has to be less than $50 to be worth it compared to the oscopes you can get. Exactly. A affordable Oscope is already available, and Steve's device doesn't even show you wave just a red light. Now the other thing he was working on, the little gauge thing like what's on RF amps, the LED needle that goes up with volume and could be set to go into red at clipping, could be a semi more useful device. As people could set it, then monitor it during actual music and ect. But then again, if its going to cost 100-200 dollars, the kids who actually need it, won't have the money to spend on something that doesn't enhance their audio setup in anyway.
  15. Its really hard to say, and nobody is going to give you the right answer without you actually trying what they suggest. It could be as simple as having the postive and negative switched on one coil. Either recheck every detail with a fine tooth comb, or have somebody else do it. Some times another person can spot something you missed or think is correct.
  16. I do like the smoothness. It gives you a look nobody else really has, distancing Sundown another way from the others. Indeed a good thing.

Sucks NEO cost went up. Does that mean the SSD isn't getting NEO treatment as well?
  18. Voltage dropping to 12.5v isnt good imo. With a 225a alt and 2500wrms amp on music (doubtful you even come close to that rms rating), you shouldnt really have considerable voltage drop. You went from a RF amp to Sundown. Sundown amps are no joke. You may want to consider upgrading or reworking your electrical wiring if needed. You might even need to look into XS Power battery up front and another XS Power battery near the amp. I have a feeling you are starving your Sundown amp. Maybe your enclosure foe the sub is less than optimal. Good luck Whats wrong with voltage at 12.5? Also, why wouldn't he have a considerable voltage drop? Assume at idle the 225a only puts out 150ish, the voltage is going to drop when the alternator is reaching its output limits. I don't see how he is "starving" the amp either. With the information the op supplied he changed amplifiers and upgraded to one with 2.5 times more potential output. Therefore the electrical requirement is 2.5 times more. But.........no additional electrical upgrades were done to support all the added power. 12.5v is basically the resting voltage of his battery. This means, to me, that his amp is pulling 100% power out of the alt and them dipping into battery reserves. Dead battery anyone? 13v or higher for me or my systems is turned down. There are many unknown variables here, but my opinion stands. Op, how hot does the amp get? Pretty hot I bet. Sooo he needs at least 2.5 more 225 alternators just to meet your standards?
  19. Aw shit mang you just answered your question. The heatsink gets "very toasty" cuz it's a HEATSINK! It's pulling heat away from the amps internals. It's doing what it's supposed to. If the middle of the amp (where the more sensitive parts are) is really hot then that's a problem but if that part's cool then you should be good. And Duran is right. Say your H/U puts out 2 volts which your amp turns into 40 at 3/4 gain. If you get a new H/U that makes 4 volts and your amp turns that into...40...at 1/2 gain, then the amp is still making the same power and you didn't do anything. Having the gain up high is NOT BAD, if that's where you need it to be. Having it TOO HIGH is bad. This gain rule is funny to me...almost like people saying "don't ever push your car past XXXXrpm cuz that will mess it up." Only true if you don't know what the hell you're doing. I have that same amp and it never gets hot. This is also in the 100+ degree Arizona heat, but I have proper electrical upgrades. What he said, what's "proper electrical upgrades?" And by never gets hot, you mean even the heatsink isn't hot? I find that a lil hard to believe. Also, he said his amp has a 150 amp fuse, while yours is a new "constant power" series and shouldn't have a fuse on it? (Not tryin to be all lawyer-type but I'm sorta thinking he has an older power series amp, unless I either read what he posted wrong or they hide the fuses on those new power amps.) with low voltage my saz1500d was very hot. After installing a dc power alt, my saz1500d was cool to the touch. Not hard to believe. What's low voltage? Below 12 volts? Below 11volts? I ran a 1500d between 12-14.5 volts, and mine always ran "warm" after any real long length of time(10 mins or more of hard playing). I don't see how going from 12 volts to 14volts is going to change the temptature. If anything, I would think it would get hotter because its putting out more power? Nope When voltage drops more amps have to be pulled to produce the same amount of power at the same volume. lets just say you're producing 1500 watts at optimal levels.. at 14 volts you would only need 107A to produce the 1500 watts, but to produce the same 1500 watts at 12v you would need 125A.. You create more heat by pulling more amperage. I know this, but doesn't having less input voltage just decrease your output voltage and in return producing less power. What your saying, amps put out the same power at 12 volts as they do at 14?
  20. Really ? That is pretty silly to say. LOL. I don't see the argument of having a good protect circuits is a bad thing, even in the lanes. Just because it goes into protect with you, doesn't mean its totally useless to everybody else.

  22. Negative. I got the rights to the videos regardless who he hires. They still will be mine. Lol. But still, kinda held up at the moment. It will come together very very soon.
  23. Ok ok, finally got around to throwing another video together from the ones I took the other day. I uploaded it to my original Youtube account, I decided I didn't like my new Youtube account name. And I'm not going to start a new one until I have a laptop so I can do everything exactly how I want. And then I will reupload the videos I want on my new one.
  24. Its on Youtube. But you can't search for it. And it has over a minute of a blank black screen. I need to redo it and upload it again. I just haven't found the time, plus I don't have a computer at my house, yet. But very soon I'm buying a laptop so I can finally do something at home. It will all come together soon. Lance isn't finished yet, so nothing to really show at the moment.
