  1. Moving on- the driver is very stout in appearance, with little glitter, or glamour. this is a serious sub. cosmetics are an afterthought. (a 12 and a 15, fwiw) the dustcap is a hard plastic, with teh m5 logo screen printed on it. not nearly as flimsy as some other brands i have used. now i did pull the 15 apart, and i did it without destroying the softparts.. lets see them, shall we? simple paper cone, nothing fancy. fairly thick, and very stiff. perfect for teh intended application. I must note that on the 15 the surround was not completly glued down in 2 spots. it was attatched completly, but the edge wasnt pressed down. under severe stress, this may have been a problem. however, neither of the 12's had this problem, and Mark assured me that this was not common (and i believe thats true, but to be totally fair, i had to note it.)
  2. posted a thread on ca.com, thought i would mirror it here. excuse the copy paste, if you have any questions/pic requests, lmk, and ill do my best! Alright.. I got the oppertunity to purchase a damaged in shipping M5 spl15 from Mark himself for a STEAL. As it was damaged in shipping, it obviously needs a recone (actually, i am turning this one and another damaged in shipping spl 12 into custom 18's, so..) so i tore it down tonight, without causing damage to the softparts. and thought some of you may care (i have seen a few posts/questions in the last few days wondering about the quality of the m5 stuff) Before i start with the pics- yes i am a mach 5 "fanboi". Marks prices and service is hard to beat, and he really is a stand up guy. With that said, i am going to try and be fair and point out the good with the bad. any questions you may have, i will gladly try and answer, but, if i cant, you can surely ask Mark, as he is always happy to help. On with the show. The first thing you see when you open the cardboard box it comes in is this- a wooden crate. It looks very nice, however, from what i have experience with.. its not that strong. now, these were "damaged in shipping" items, so they are (hopefully) the exception. here is some pics of the damage- now this one- was my personal driver to start with, it was NOT damaged in shipping, and the crate did have a bit of damage- Now, as I said.. these were damged in shipment items, so, i dont think this is widespread, however, i would take a good hard look and see what, if anything, could be changed to help this, if i was Mark. Now we have them unpacked (in order- 12, 15, and 18) nice, eh?
  3. mark.. what about spl 10's? just a random ass thought....any chance you could get some cones built up? im still going ixl's in one of the cadi's...
  4. well, yes to you too.
  5. Alright guys.... decided im going to try sq (me doing sq is... new ) I am REALLY wanting to use the ixl 10's in a sealed box (3 10's, actually) Mark recommended .5 cuft sealed each. now, how much power per sub would be needed? is 500 each enough? more/less? Any other suggestions? comments?
  6. this thread is painful.
  7. if i may? i would say 10.. just so sexy..
  8. I think you'll be interested to see some of the things I'm working on im very sure i will be:)
  9. I would like to see the X series get made. Convince Nick to sell you the design for the Mag V3 and resurrect it, I would love to see that driver live on. you dont stop, do you? at any rate.. i am excited to see what the future holds for you jacob:)
  10. could we maybe get some pics of the enclosure?/subs installed?
  11. sweet man! hell of a choice in woofers!
  12. hmm.. i like. lots. can you tell me where i can find more info on how to build one? where/what supplies, etc? at any rate, nice choice in woofers, you should be pleased for years to come!
  13. How can you say, My mirror fell off and I broke my DVD player and say "Seemed to get loud though"? like this "My mirror fell off and I broke my DVD player". "Seemed to get loud though"
  14. good.. i dont do any editing at all..
  15. nice. thank you. i really will only use it occasionaly, its usb connect.. i hear "firewire" is faster/better? (i dont even know what that is) is that something that is really going to limit me?
  16. http://www.ecost.com/detail.aspx?edp=38451966 this worth it? i actually just bought one (shoulda asked first, i know, lol) came to 80.xx shipped... is it decent? if it matters, i only want it to store pics/vids/music on.. my laptops built in hd is only 120 gb (i have that in movies alone) any input? did i mess up? thanks!
  17. The motors are Chinese built to my specifications - the soft parts, glues, and coils are American. Regardless of assembly point almost all motor parts will come from China anyway - especially magnets. Almost all baskets come from China as well, as will these. nice.... although i believe the chinese can make just as high of quality stuff as the americans, that is an impressive roster for sure:D
  18. again.. very nice. maybe there is finally something in the sundonw camp to interest me ill be following this. and you have pm:)
  19. really neat jacob. 3" coil?
  20. i can say with absolute confidence- mach 5. the ixl.
  21. also- this is BEN'S claim as to how and why- Put it this way. 1st thing. The T/S specs are not identical from the Ov.2 to the e5. The box sizes are essentially the same but the e5 - Series you'll see will likely have a lower FS. As far as the e3 stuff goes. It's basically updated Kv.2 parts. It doesn't use Nio3 design. Only the e5.10 and e5.12 will. Neodymium Integrated object (3) parts to the geometry that make it work 1. ceramic 2. neo 3. steel Everything is a trade off. This is just a easy way to introduce more B. Think of it this way. You want to increase xmax in a overhung design. How is this achieved? Increase the length of the coil. This pushes up Q. You want to bring it down. So you increase OD of the motor. Imagine you can increase xmax without raising Q or increasing OD of the motor. To do this you need to increase the amount of magnetic pull in some way. Imagine the ability just to get more motor force in a smaller motor by adding materials instead of just adding more of the same thing (increasing OD). You have Nio3. You can't just slap it in there. But do it right. You'll benefit. e5 is a good example." http://www.icixsound.com/vb/showthread.php...age=6&pp=10 page 6.
  22. x2.. exactly.. my honest guess is marketing gimmick, with JUST enough neo for ben to claim it.. (maybe a few slivers that fell on the floor:laugh: .)
  23. thats cooling, as im sure yuo can guess, but imma take a wild swing and say that you are talking the oddly placed hole.. that i have no idea. looks retarded
  24. agreed 100% the sad thing is- is even on there "glamour" shots shown, youi can visably SEE the cone/dustcaps not lining up/lifting/poor fitment.. sad really. this is SO wrong its not even funny. as an aside- the tc nomex is CRAP. VERY breakable:( so pretty though. i have a bunch of the cones here.. i refuse to use them whenbuilding drivers, and i wont in good faith sell em to some other poor sucker. they will only break. i had minor success with them when reinforcing them with ca glue on the back, but its just not worth the effort:( (i should note- i have the 12, 15, and 18" cones.. the 10" stuff may be ok.. not a lot of surface area to put the pressure against.. the 18's are AWFUL.)
  25. i told you you could have my exwife. (seems everyone else gets her)
