  1. welcome back
  2. From a logistics standpoint its not a fair test. You are comparing roughly a thousand dollars of amplifiers to a 1600+ dollar amplifier. The z1 was built by DD to be a massive low voltage, highly efficient amplifier. It is an underrated 3kw amplifier which had been benched to do well over 4kw. Would the Sundown's hold their own against a DD z1, yes. Would they produce more power, depending on the voltage and impedance level. The Sundown saz-1500d's should produce roughly the same power as the DD z1. Why as a street A competitor would you choose sundown over DD, = Better customer service = Rock solid amps that love low impedances = Virtually indestructible product = Repairs won't take 6 months to a year. The point is DD amps while able to produce quite a bit of power are just not reliable. From a consumer standpoint, if I were to buy a 1600 dollar amplifier and had to wait 6 months for a repair. I would be pissed. DD amps are very finicky about voltage and impedance. And all though the z1 was "designed for factory charging systems" there is no possible way to run a z1 off of a factory charging system without dropping in voltage and the amp saying good bye. I used to be a DD fanatic. Guess where my first DD amp is, sitting in my room as a paper weight after fighting with DD and still not recieving and RA number almost a year later at this point. My Sundown amp has seen 10.9 volts and has seen nearly 20 volts and it is still there. I have had issues with my sundown product (soft start noise) that Jacob was returning my emails about at 7 am on Sunday morning. So the choice is yours, do you want to spend money on an established company with countless problems or would you rather spend your money on a rock solid product that is underrated, and backed by an industry leading warranty.
  3. And how are you spending 1200 on 4? unless of course you are going with 2400's, and why again do you need four of them for 3-4kw of amplifier juice? I have run .5 ohm loads and ~2000 watts on my stock battery with a stock alt and don't ever see much voltage drop beyond 12.25 volts. I am just curious, as a fellow spl guy why you need 4 kinetiks? automatically putting you in super street for dB drag, when you realistically only need 2 batts with the upgraded alt and can spend your money else where, such as amplifiers. Another amp I would suggest buying is an American Bass 500.1 and there just so happens to be one for sale in the SSA for sale section.

  5. A pair of Sundown 1500D's with a .5 ohm load on each or 1 ohm bridged would do fine and come in under your budget. +1, and what batteries are you buying that will set you back 1200 dollars?
  6. I would say the best realistic medium is vinyl followed by super audio cd. This is my opinion, but isn't dvd audio just a higher sampling rate than cd, but not as high as a SACD? And the issue with digital storage would be if the file is uncompressed or compressed and what compression method was utilized.
  7. z1's just have too many problems and are very picky when it comes to lower impedances.
  8. no brainer sundown is $749canadian. I dunno, is there anybody who has just tested the z1 and the 1500 strapped without actually owning them? because the results may be a little biased The sundown saz-1500d's msrp is 749 canadian. You have to contact your retailer for a quote for the price he is actually selling, it is substantially lower than 749 canadian or 600 american dollars/
  9. I so hope no one in a hatch is at the show in street A this upcoming sunday. It will be a sad day for me.
  10. Still injured, sent home from work early. Ordered my aero-ports, still have to do some measurements for my wall build, possibly running several more runs or 4 ga. down the car. Hopped up on narcs, (valium/ hydrocodone), mixed with flexxoral. Good times. Finalized my standard cab silverado box design. Payed car insurance, and all of this before six am. Almost time for some sleep.
  11. Me too. I think I am gonna hold out on buying my second saz-1500d and just get a 3000d, and use my 1500d for something else.
  12. I know that I can get them for ~1300 bnib from an authorized dealer, I think tej was paying ~800 for each, but even still. He can now wire each woofer to .5 ohms and get the same amount of power with the better warranty, customer service, and the extended replacement plan.
  13. I have yet to post any updated pics of the box. But i will with the wall build. I am also working on the outside port corner, and have an idea for increasing port velocity and reducing port turbulence all at once.
  14. I vote sundown. Have owned and destroyed kicker products, getting a replacement or getting your warranty honored is a pain in the ass with kicker, as everything I send back to them was "abused"
  15. I am gonna have to say that the 3424 watts was two Saz-1500d's strapped @ 1 ohm, and at something like 12.8 volts.
  16. Those Memphis amps are pretty good, albeit a little power hungry and not low impedance happy at all. The good news about going with the Saz-3000d's is that you could strap a pair per pair of woofers for comps and gain ~15-20% of power for a burp. Quite a good deal, b/c the saz- series love low impedances and are damn near indestructible. Not to mention that their are quite a few comps in the south-east area, definitely more than there are around me in Albany NY. For daily it won't be much of a difference, but the warranty and customer service are definite sundown pluses.
  17. I guess resin could work for sq, albeit a little overkill. Resin and duct-tape are a few of those extra tenths of a db that I am always searching for. Walling should net me a little too, and than time to add a real battery and a second saz-1500d to the mix and go all out for upper 40's in a trunk car.
  18. Good job man, and it is hella better to be in a beat up crx, than a non-beat up dodge neon at an spl show.
  19. Personally I would look for a used american bass 200.1, 500.1, memphis 4kw mojo, incriminator audio 20.1/40.1, Sundown Saz-1500d, 3000d, There are just soo many amps out there that can deliver some crazy power. Even the lanzar opti-drive 6000 was reviewed to put out 6kw and do it well. No firsthand knowledge on any of the Lanzar opti's so someone else will have to step in and say something on behalf of lanzar.
  20. I am definitely not an spl expert being an ex sq competitor, but I have learned a couple tricks so far.
  21. Well the dampening was actually just thrown on their b/c the resin was still wet and I needed a way to carry it to my car without getting stuck to it, which i did anyways. The resin inside the box makes sure that all seams are completely airtight and strengthens the mdf. hmmm, never done that before. Do you do that and put caulk around the seems as well? Or does resin suffice? I stick with two to four layers of resin on the inside and a good layer on the outside, I have not posted the duct-tape pics yet either, as I wrap the box with duct tape which also helps with sealing, and makes finding air leaks as easy as looking for tape that is "bubbled" Another benefit to a resined box is that it is waterproof.
  22. I am glad that TEJ won it, if not I would have been pissed cause even though I am not on the Fi forums 24/7 Like i used to Tej has first hand experience with the product, whereas i have knowledge and firsthand experience with tons of different products, although none from Fi. Tej is a great member of this community and a very helpful person who has taught wayy to many of us a thing or two. I would have loved to have won it for a 18" Q for HT use as well as that is my current project besides finishing my Sundown/ TC sounds street A db drag car.

  24. Deffinitely cool stuff Tom, I have a thing for classic camaro's and newer ones, not a big fan of the 2nd gen, and only really like the late 3rd gen and late 4th gen, as well as all 1st gen. My poor neon got raped by a late 3rd gen once. I was 16 and ignorant. Anyways, good morning to you all. My back is still injured, car is still not finished, customer boxes need to be built still, walling off my trunk this week, still working a 60 hour week and going to another comp this upcoming sunday. What a busy week. damn...
