what id like to know is: what did you set the dials to? what did your friend set the dials to/or adjust? what sub/subs are on it? ~ what coils do they have? ~ how did they get wired to the amp? what electrical system is backing this?
im going to assume at this point its yer box panels slapping each other due to its not that solid of an enclosure just by looking at the pics. do what nick said and run it free air, if it dont make that sound, its not the sub. on another note, your LP is too high for a Q imo, but thats just me

haha nice I'm kind of wishing I would have been more patient and waited till i could scrounge a few more bucks up to get the Q to begin with... learn as you go... jus seems I never get to a nice plateau. When I get to the next level, I still break it and go "oh, now I know, next time..." and the cyle continues LOL nows your chance, i just happen to be selling my Q18. pm me if interested

the older style didnt have the integrated tinsels. and the earliest ones didnt have the option for Bp, other than that the motor hasnt changed. they never had allen style, only push terminals you see on them now
