  1. Good set man, I run these in my car. Don't expect too much in the way of midbass from them. For me they are competent enough, they have a very nice midrange. I run them active off of a PG Tantrum 600.4 (75x4.) I used to run them passive and fed them 300 watts a side and they never complained. If you install them in door you're going to want to put some type of protection over the top of them so they don't get water damaged. Paper cones + water = not good. Best of luck to you bro. CT
  2. http://www.madisound.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi...08&pid=1004 http://www.madisound.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi...308&pid=843 I have those Peerless drivers here, and it's not too bad of a tweeter, you may want to give that a shot. It has no problem with an xover point of 2.5k CT
  3. Haha, you're a control freak, eh Aaron? I know the feeling. You won't need anything in the way of impedance EQing in the way of the tweeter, thats for sure. Most tweeters have an inductance of around .1 or so. I don't recall Le being listed on Mach5's website for the MLI, but we can figure something out. An L-Pad could definately be thrown into the mix, based on the tweeter, and what type of enclosure we use for the MLI. Nonetheless, if you want to keep this under 100 for tweeters and xovers you're probably going to have to keep your tweeter cost to a minimum, as parts can get rather expensive. If you select a tweeter that can be integrated in a 2nd order slope then your cost of parts will go down. You're looking at roughly 50-60 bucks in parts. You'll want to get a tweeter with an Fs of 1khz or less. Audio stuff is funny, because where you give you must take. A higher Fs tweeter can be used on a steeper slope, but at the cost of more xover parts. A lower Fs tweeter can be used on a shallower slope, but generally a tweeter with a lower Fs costs considerably more. Less expensive drivers also have some consistency issues. All that said, I'm here for you and I'll help you out wherever you need it. CT
  4. I would reccomend something like a 1 inch tweet, or possibly more for this setup. The Dayton 3/4 Neo tweet is a nice cheap (i have a set here) tweet, but rather ill suited for the MLI-65. With an Fs of 1700hz it just can't get low enough. I talked to Mark about the Mach 5 before, and he said a reccomended xover point would be in the 2-2.5k region. I would look into a tweeter with an FS of 1000hz or less for this setup. http://www.madisound.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi...08&pid=1824 Although I have no first hand experience with that tweeter, Zaph has that listed in the tweeter mish-mash. He said it's not a bad performer in that price range. Also, it has a low Fs (800hz) which would mate pretty nice at 2k, on whatever slope you want above 1st order. Keep in mind, the shallower the slope the less parts that need to be used. Less parts equal less $$. Aaron, I sent you an IM, get back in touch with me anytime you like. CT
  5. I cut the holes a little big on purpose, for easier fitting, this being a prototype I'm going to do a lot of playing around with it. Haha, and yes, I do need to get a spiral upcut bit. I really should've cleaned up the roughness before I took pictures. M5 and topgun, thank you guys. CT
  6. Madisound Ok, dumb question on my part. What brand are they? Fostex? Yessir, they are Fostex CT
  7. I tested them out today, in the enclosure, with the passives. Everything is sounding great. Midrange and high end is absolutely beautiful. The Silver Flute is actually an impressive woofer, especially in it's price range. Things still need cleaned up, and then on to laquer. Please feel free to ask questions, or to inquire about designs. The website should be up very, very soon. I still need to drop some text in, and start posting build logs. If you were to have me build you a set of speakers a step-by-step build log will be posted on the website. Thank you for your interest in Custom Audio Technology, CT
  8. I apologise for not updating recently, I'm still waiting for a couple of things in the mail. CT
  9. Saws Table Saw Radial Arm Saw Jigsaw Circular Clamps Bar Clamps Right Angle Clamps Routers, etc Skil 1825, plunge/fixed base router RotoZip I like to do miters for the edges, gives a nice look. Only seams, and not open edges. I would only do butt joints if I were going to be using carpet/vinyl, etc.
  10. Is this build posted on ca.com?? Yes sir. CT
  11. I don't really have a price list, being that the designs are all from scratch. Prices will be based on complexity of design and build. Consultation will be provided on prices. I can almost assure you that I will not be able to offer rock bottom prices, but they will be reasonable. I would like my customers to consider the time and care put into each and every build. Turn around time, just like pricing, will be based upon the complexity of design and build. If someone were to want a simple 2 way setup, with basic crossover networks, and a simple finish on the box turn around would be around 2 weeks. More complex design could extend to 3-4 weeks at the most. Keep in mind I do not stock drivers or any parts, really, so all supplies will have to be shipped to me. Although I live within 2 days shipping of Madisound and Parts Express. CT
  12. If anyone has any questions please feel free to ask, as I am more than willing to answer them. I will answer your questions in the most honest way possible. CT
  13. Wow, that looks excellent man Maybe I'll have to get one CT
  14. RIckRolled, I am in Pittsburgh, PA. CT
  15. I'm going to design and build 3 "standard" type sets. They will consist of progressively better materials, such as choice of wood, crossover design/complexity and enclosure design/complexity. These will be production type models. Also, I will post all builds on my website, with descriptions and what not, so if someone were interested in a set from a past build I would build it for them. The main goal of the business though is to provide options to the customer that aren't available in off-the-shelf products. Also, to do this in a manner which is specific, and direct to the customer. Basically the sky is the limit. Aaron, thank you for giving me an outlet to spread the word to folks who are interested in the DIY market CT
  16. Aaron, thank you for your kind words. I'd be willing to setup an audition for you, a little ways down the road once I get a few builds done. This set I'm currently building is going to be a loaner set to some knowledegeable folks to review and audition. If you'd be willing to give it a go I'd be willing to ship them out to you, although I don't have a specific time table right now. CT
  17. Hello, my name is Chris and shortly I will be starting up a new business. Basically I will design and build custom loudspeakers enclosures, passives crossovers, and subwoofer cabinets. I can also aid in the design of subwoofer enclosures, if need be. I can offer a myriad of options when it comes to design, inside and out. I talked to Aaron (Denim) about introducing my services to the folks on forums. The insiration behind this business is basically the ability to pick and choose exactly what you want in a loudspeaker set. Everything will be hand built by me with care, and attention to detail. My website should be up within the next couple of days, and can be seen at www.CustomAudioTechnology.com Now lets get down to the nitty gritty of what I can offer you. Cabinet Construction MDF Birch Ply Slot Porting Aero Porting Terminals Binding Posts Carpet Finish Stain Finish Paint Finish Spikes/Feet Box Fill Screwless / Nailless Construction Recessed Mounting Crossover Construction High End Components Impedance Equalization L-Pads 1st to 4th order, Linkwitz Riley, Butterworth, Gaussian, Chebychev, Bessel, Linear Phase, Legendre 2 way Passive 3 way Passive Subwoofer LPF Crossovers Here are a few pictures of my current build The passives there are only the LPF, and the glue on the enclosure is currently drying. These should be finished rather shortly and I will post pictures as progress permits. Thanks to all of those with interest, and especially to Aaron CT
