  1. At which frequency would I want to set the SSF to if i were to run it as an additional level of protection? I'm thinking 20-22hz?
  2. 1.35 - 1.40 FT^3 as per the optimal sealed recommendations on the SSA website. They will be getting ~600W each. I've never used WinISD before - is it a free program?
  3. Just purchased the sealed enclosure for 2) 12" SSA GCONs - Net will be 1.3.1-45 FT^3 per. I've been doing some research but have seen a very wide variety of recommendations for setting the amp's subsonic filter for sealed enclosures. Some say to set it @ or just below the Fs of the speaker (31.5hz for the GCON) Some say that you don't need to run the subsonic filter at all because the air-suspension inside of the sealed enclosure acts as a shock absorber/accumulator and will provide ample protection from over-excursion. Not sure which is the best bet for my situation. Naturally, I want to protect my drivers without inhibiting performance. What should I be doing here? Input from the SSA guys would be much appreciated. Thanks, The Snapper King
  4. Using DC Creations. Recommend thread for deletion.
  5. Anyone from the Long Island NY/NJ/CT Area want to build me a sealed enclosure for 2 12s - or know of anyplace that would? I'm not looking for anything extravagant, just something ~ 1.5 FT^3 per chamber. I don't have the time to do it myself (and I've never made one). Trying to stay away from pre-fab junk. Shipping or Pick-up is cool. Can someone help me out? Thanks, Snapper
  6. I had the fox acoustics dual 10" ported enclosure in my 2005 Ram 1500 Quad - For a small ported enclosure, it sounded as good as it was gonna get for an under-seat setup. The best you can get for the Ram - I would recommend Fox for EVERYONE with a Ram. I remember when I was having it installed, I brought the shop the enclosure and they were blown away by the fit and the quality. I came back to pick up my vehicle later on that evening and 3 of the installer's friends with 1500 quad cabs were there checking it out hahaha. It really is a great product. My enclosure had a maximum mounting depth of 6.5". If he is telling you 7.0", they must have redesigned it since 2009. If you want good sound quality, purchase your subwoofers and amp from a reputable company. Like I've mentioned in my previous posts, Kicker amps are great, heard good things about Crescendo too. You have many too many subwoofer choices to list - the ball is really in your court. ***One thing that I'm not sure about but you might want to look into - maximum mounting depth of 7.0 inches doesn't mean that you should run a 12" driver with a mounting depth of 7.0". One would think that you may want to run something a little bit shallower to facilitate better air-flow and cooling around the back of the magnet? One of the more experienced guys may want to chime in here.
  7. Alpine - I've run nothing but alpine decks from day 1. Some of the best in my opinion. I ran a 9856 for 8 years; never a single problem with that head unit. Alpine subwoofers, door speakers, and amps not so much - thats a big old negative ghost rider. I've had 3 alpine amps, all ran hot, all went into protect after extended periods of loud listening. Type-R and Type-S Component sets - mediocre at best. Fried 2 10" Type Rs in a ported box - powered by a kicker zx1000.1 putting out ~500W RMS each of clean power. Never again. Kicker Amps - Good clean power, some of the best you can buy Kicker L7s - Good loud subs but don't expect any sound quality Infinity - I love infinity component speakers. I ran a set of 60.7CS 6.5" for a long time also - still some of the loudest cleanest speakers in my opinion. They do lack on the mid bass and the treble can be extreme if not toned down with an equalizer or sound processor. Haven't heard the new kappas or perfects yet. Hifonics Amps - Used to be the cat's ass. Not anymore. Nowadays they've turned into budget amps; even still, very decent amp for anyone on a budget. Eclipse Subwoofers & Door Speakers - Very very very good component door speakers, ran these with a pair of 12" titanium pros. Nice SQ setup. ANY FINALLY - Hopefully SSA makes it onto this list. I ordered a pair of GCON 12s last night. This is my first time using any of the SSA products and based on the rave reviews, I am expecting a lot from the GCONS. Time will tell. Regards, Snapper
  8. My vehicle came from the factory with a 140amp alternator. Do you think the Big 3 will preclude any issues with dimming if I'm running a 1200W amp @ 2ohms?
  9. I can't believe i forgot this http://youtu.be/F65AttFGOeg
  10. Cam'ron - Prophecy Cam'ron - Killa Cam Cam'Ron - Down & Out Lil Boosie - Top Notch Lil Boosie - If I had A K Pitbull - Dammit man UGK - Diamonds & Wood UGK - Protect and Serve
  11. I went with Dual 2's. I previously had issues with 1 ohm set-ups so I've been running all my amps at 2 ohms since. No particular reason really... I've read that 2 ohms will produce tighter, more accurate bass but I've yet to notice the difference between 1 ohm and 2 ohm. Snapper
  12. Placed my order a few minutes ago! I'm still looking for a straight forward design for the sealed enclosure. I've never built a subwoofer enclosure before so this should be interesting. I'm not worried about the fabrication process - I just need to get a nice and detailed cut sheet and figure out how to make it look good once fully assembled and cured. I could totally see myself mangling the carpet part - maybe i should just use a couple coats of roll on bed liner. We will see. Also - I'm leaning towards the Hifonics BRZ1700.1D because of the wallet. Should put out ~1200W @ 2ohms Snapper
  13. After the problems you've had with this one, would you end up buying another Crescendo Amp? Just out of curiosity. Snapper
  14. 2) 12" GCONs it is. One more question - what is the dislacement of the 12" Subwoofer so I can take that into consideration when sizing the enclosure? Much Appreciated, SnapperKing
  15. All, I'm looking to run a pair of 12's in a sealed enclosure (1.00-1.25 ft^3 per) @ 600W RMS to each sub. Would I be losing any significant performance by under powering these subwoofers? I understand that they are rated for 750W RMS but I am limited to a total of 1200W RMS and would like to run 2-12s in a sealed enclosure due to my trunk-space limitations. Also, should these perform well in a relatively small sealed enclosure or is 1.0-1.25 FT^3 too little? What is the current lead time on the GCONS? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, SnapperKing
  16. What are some other options for a pair of 12s that will sound really good in a 1.25 ft^3 enclosure with 500-600W RMS? I'd rather not run a pair of underpowered subwoofers. Based on the comments thus far, it seems like i would have to dump a lot more than 1200W RMS to make the SA-12s perform well in a sealed enclosure. Again, I'd like to stay away from name brand overpriced garbage. Preferably SSA, Sundown, Fi, Skar, etc.
  17. Is it safe to say that I'm better off with 2 GCONS @ 600W Each?
  18. All, I am looking into running 2) SA-12s in my 2012 Volkswagen Jetta GLI. I do not want to loose my entire trunk with a large ported enclosure and also, I prefer the sound of sealed enclosures. I am not a SQ freak but I like the tight bass, with some boom if I crank it up. I am limited to 1000-1200W RMS. They will be getting 600W each @ 2 Ohms. My question is this - the Sundown website recommends 1.0 ft^3. I listen to mostly rap, R&B, electronic, with some metal mixed in there. 1) Should I be going slightly larger than recommended to retain my lows (e.g. 1.25 ft^3)? 2) I can't find much info on the SA-12s in sealed enclosures. Anybody running these sealed? How do you like them? 3) Any other recommendations if these are not the right subs for me? I'm looking for a nice pair of subwoofers around the $200-250 price range each, with 500-600W RMS each, decently loud sound in a sealed enclosure. Other drivers I have considered but decided against for one reason or another: 1-15" FI-Q Sealed @ 1000W ((I figured the displacement of the 2 SA-12s would better suite my taste)) 1-15" SSA GCON Sealed @ 750W ((If only the GCONS were 600W RMS so I could run 2 of them in a sealed enclosure)) 2-12" Type-Rs Sealed @ 1000W ((i've always had shit luck with Alpine)) 2-12" JL W3s Sealed @ 1200W ((I was immediately turned off when I saw that the JL Website recommended running their 600W JLW3 subwoofers at 400W-500W as opposed to their advertised 600W???)) Thanks in advance, Snapper King
