Once I find which tone is the loudest in my car, do I tuned my port to that freq?

I do not have a meter, all I have is a DMM and my ears lol and can get test tones from ROE

Okay, So to find out what Hz my car peaks at, do I try out different test tones to see which one is the loudest in my car? If so, then what do I do from there? Say my car peaks at 37hz...do I tuned my port to 37hz? Reason asking is because I built a 2.5cuft. net @ 32hz enclosure with a 4" aeroport. I can take it out and cut it down for SPL. I just want to do it right since I only have one tube insert left. I'm aiming for SPL, not a fartbox. Thanks!

yea I'm fine, my car wasn't even that bad. The insurance adjuster called around and couldn't get any parts so he claimed it as totaled. And now I heard about the sale you guys are having on the icon !! lol

Well guys it's been awhile since I visited this site.....but about a week ago I totaled my car! So there goes that project.... maybe i'll retire the icon for home theater use

I have about 1100rms, most likely not seeing all of it since I only have a 95 amp alt. For my frontstage I have pg rsd6.5cs getting around 75rms.

Alright thanks alot..also, for some flat out sq what would you recommend for sealed and ported. I want to go from one extreme to the other and see what I like more. Spring is almost here lol.

Well I think i'm addicted to car audio and it's fun building the enclosure and installing everything, but it always seems there's something better out there. You know that feeling when you want to try something new to see how it will sound? Well I want to see if i'm into spl or not because it seems i'm right in the middle with the icon. It has some great sq and gets loud, but i want to see it get loud where it hurts your ears. Maybe build an spl box and see how I like it. I was thinking on the smaller end with a lot of port area. I kow the icon is a sq woofer but I think it has potential to get real loud from what I see at 32hz. What are some options.

Hey, my enclosure is 2.2 cubes and tuned to 32hz for the 12" icon, but that feeling of upgradeing is kicking in. Instead of selling it, I want to make some more enclosures for it to keep me occupied. I need a few plans...so what volume and tunning would you recommend. Give me some ideas...

How much power you giving it, how big of an enclosure and what vehicle is it in?

umm it kinda sounded like a pop, its kinda hard to describe. I know it's not the cd skipping because it happened when I was turning it up from 30 to around 35. What else could that sound be except it bottoming out?

I don't know if its my settings on my headunit or if it's my songs format (data and mp3) but i'm starting to notice most of my songs sound like crap. I set my gains with my volt meter and the low pass is set around 80hz and no bass boost. My enclosure is 2.2 cubes tuned to 32hz and i'm thinking maybe its too big? One song I noticed it bottomed out and I set my gains to volume 52 with a -4db 40 or 50hz test tone I believe, I was only playing the song around 34-38. I can turn down my eq on my headunit but then my frontstage midbass is not even being used. Do I need an external equalizer? and smaller box since it bottomed out? I mean the song Young Jezzy "You know what it is" sounds crazy loud and sq is reall nice, I can hear every different bass line in that song. My doors even push in and out. But I would like all my songs to sound good instead of just a couple. What's my problem here? frontstage: PG rsd6.5cs frontstage amp: PG ryval v752 and running the 12" icon of the jbl gto1201.1

Hey finially got a hold of a digital camera. Heres a couple pics of my setup.

A 1999 saturn sl2, I want to build a SPL box to see what numbers the icon can put up, i need a little more info than tune higher, I already know that. I need to know how much port area and how many cubes i should use. I'd figure you (the owners/team members) already know what I need to compete. Also I want to see the best sq i can get out of the icon too.

Right now I have a 2.2cubes @ 32hz with 34.50sq.in. of port area with 1100rms for my daily driver. I want to build a pure spl box and a pure sq box before the winter comes. I have 34inches in width and 13inches in hieght. I need to know the tunning, port area, and cubes for each enclosure. I heard spl enclosures should be small and have alot of port area. I'm not sure what kind of boxes I should build so i'd figure i'd ask here since noone knows the icon better than you guys, Thankz.

Omg i just set my low pass filter to 80 hz on my amp and 80hz on my headunit and there is no muddyness anymore! I thought I knew what sq was until now, It sounds amazing. I'm going to post up some pics of my ride for the website but I'm going to wait until i get rims and tints because its all stock right now.
