high voltage on a budget
I'm interested in something.. You want to set the amp up to it's max potential so it doesn't clip.. Well, for one, what are you using to ensure it doesn't clip? Two, most daily drivers allow clipping in their systems at full tilt anyways. Just saying clipping isn't the death to all speakers. IT's the amount of time and the harshness of the signal that determines that. IF you truly want that clip free signal, then yea, you might as well get a 3-4kw amp because you will be losing potential in your output. I can understand if you were preventing this with front stage amps trying to protect delicate equipment but subs.. do not understand.

Beware! Skar Audio poor customer service
The main problem i see complained about today is the company cannot prove what they are selling. Do I need to elaborate that for you? If they sell speakers, they do not contain accurate TS parameters. If they sell subs, amps, etc, they do not know the details in which to customize their own products to stand out against another company. Everything is to flood the market with repeat products but with no understanding behind them. You can turn your head when things in the past happened and had to rebuild his image twice already from what i understand, but let's disregard that. Let's focus on the fact that there has never been one reason to own anything from this company whatsoever. IT doesn't matter if you are rich, poor, competing, daily, etc, there is no application for such products that allows this company to boast over another. Then add the Hopeful customer service to it and you get the perfect name.. Skar. That's the perfect name because many people have had this emotional feeling in the past so it should be a warning sign.

This is the video that was taken earlier today when the Evil was looking down at everything else out there-

in that case, do simple math. What is the power rating of that amp at max output and at what ohm? Figure out what the voltage rail should be at that point. Most amps i've ever messed with max out on the voltage rail from max clean output to just peak period by about 20% over rated. This is that rule of thumb thing, hehe. So, let's say it does 16,000w @1ohm. That's 126vAC So for one, get your multimeter out, set to peak hold, if it ever breaks that, assume it's clipped. 20% more than that is 151vAC. If you are coming close to or over that, you probably have the amp at extreme full blown potential. Something to think about if you think the amp may not like it.

Would taped wire ends cause voltage drop?
it shouldnt be warm at all, that's what i was wondering and it seems like a trend with their accessories... I have yet to see an accessory block by them actually perform as expected. The reason why it's getting warm is because it's building resistance inside of it. Resistance is building up due to a weak connection. This is typically caused, by them, from poor wire connection abilities. So, when you get resistance and heat, you get low voltage issues.

The SPL-Lab Tour of 2013
I will be at FreezeFest in Lebanon, TN 2-10-213 next sunday. I will have some pressure meters there to show you guys along with a new Pressure Bracket that was built to hold SPL-Lab or Termlab meters on the windshield indefinitely even during windshield failure. As long as the windshield just spiderwebs, the meter will stay in place. We are planning on selling these soon if all goes well. Will be testing them soon.

Group Buy + NEW Products SPL-Lab 2013
Cases will be shipped to us next week. All cases for all meters will be in before group buy ends. If you have already paid, please get in touch with me if wanting a case. We will have 2 different style cases due to the amount of hardware that some of our products require. The USB Meter, Bluetooth Meter, RTA Pro, USB Noise and SQL Meters will all use the same case which is $30 shipped WITH the meter. The LCD Meter and USB Pro Meter will use the same case which is $50 shipped WITH the meter. Case pricing shipped by itself for USB, Bluetooth, RTA Pro, USB Noise and SQL- $50 Case pricing shipped by itself for LCD Meter and USB Pro Meter- $70 We strongly urge you to purchase a case with your product, if you require one, to prevent a hike in shipping cost! We will have pics of these cases as soon as they arrive. We guarantee this time around and for all future purchases that all cases designated for all products will fit back into it's case even after use. This is crucial because many of us do not want to spend time putting it all back in the case as if it were packaged up to appear "brand new" again. Our new cases for most meters are as follows- ~11" x 6.75" x 3" This is enough to store one meter device and data cable with disc. ~16.5" x 9" x 2.5" This is enough to store the LCD and USB Pro which have 2-3 hardware devices to store along with 3 additional data cables and disc. Just FYI, everyone of our products were drawn out in CAD to ensure that they would fit effectively in these cases. We feel no one will be disappointed in the sizing of these cases and the pricing is extremely cheap at practically no profit made whatsover. It's a way to pass the savings onto the customer so they can keep protected their investment without having to pay a value above what it is valued at just to provide protection and a lengthy life expectancy to our products that should be already expected.

Vital Power Inc
This is a good topic. We have had the chance before to look into their nifty tools for measuring what's going on inside a vehicle and this is what we see. Vital Power vs SPL-Lab's Smart Monitor. Vital Power makes these tools for measuring and monitoring in realtime basically everything imaginable... Smart Monitor measures, monitors AND PROTECTS what it measures in realtime. The only measure of protection i have seen VP does is prevent damage from low voltage. Well, that's not enough. VP's tools are a great idea, in our eyes, until we find out they are permanently installed, hardwired into place. What's not interesting about this is no one needs to see their impedance "rise", their real wattage draw and output, etc.. Those are values that should only be measured during troubleshooting or testing for competition. To have those values in front of you all day long is like putting temperature probes all over the vehicle and staring at them while you are driving. A driver is NOT safe having these values shift and change constantly while driving. So, we built a device that actually protects what those values measure. Whether your voltage dips too low, too high, too much current dumping into your speakers, too much clipping driving your speakers, it doesn't matter. SMART Monitor will trip all aftermarket car audio accessories and alert you as to what exactly tripped. We want your eyes to stay on the road and feel safe that no matter what you do, your installed investment is safe with the SMART Monitor (aside from manufacturer defects) and you should enjoy every minute of your install without having to stare at a screen the entire time wondering what 8 different things are doing. Our SMART Monitor can ALSO measure impedance "rise", real wattage output and clipping monitor for low, mid and high range output via firmware flash used for TESTING ONLY. To enforce this, once flashed, we disable the entire DC side of measurement so the "cool" factor is removed. We want the user to tune with an easy fashion and feel safe together. If you already have this protection device, might as well be able to use it for tuning your equipment for free because you need no additional tools.

that level is to adjust the preout voltage on the headunit. By increasing it, you run the likely chance of reaching clipping sooner. Doing 30sec runs when clipped isn't going to let the coil stay cool long, hehe. It'll let you know when they are getting hot.

Noise Pollution ticket
Pssh.. a permit wouldn't work for some of our installs.. We would need a bill passed with our name on it.

Another day at the office
Now, That's a lot of ShiP in the background for one day!

Noise Pollution ticket
Well, that makes sense though.

Would taped wire ends cause voltage drop?
Something else that concerns me is Knu's fuse blocks. Are you using kerfed connections? If so, place your hand on the conductive part after you've been jammin on it and see if it feels pretty warm to hot. It should feel ICE ICE ICE cold right now. If it doesn't, much of your drop can be comming from poor manufacturing on their part. Meaning, bad internal connections.

Noise Pollution ticket
Yes, you are right because he will say i had to do so and so speed to catchspeed up to him.

Noise Pollution ticket
IT's true man. I got family down there and when i leave SBN next month, they are expecting me to slam the city down, lol. We still respect surroundings. IT would be stupid to force the whole community to listen to what few love.

Air Bag kit
Is it just for performance or for show? I would go custom just because it's cheaper, it's permanent but cheaper, plus custom bags can be had all the way up to 7,200lbs of handling capacity per wheel for nearly pocket change nowadays.

zcon reconing
i don't do recones around here but they use philips? I'm sure most to all motors do but i'm an overkill fanatic.. I would have used a countersunk allen head. That would virtually never strip. And with allen heads, just to go even more overboard, they can be had in Class 12.9 which is the strongest Metric bolt you can find.

Beware! Skar Audio poor customer service
Well, i'm not Aaron but even though past history is past history, since the vendor section has been created, there, to my knowledge, hasn't been multiple scenarios where there was no resolution to problems or extreme delays in situations. Remember when DC Power was here? One guy waited for 2yrs for a custom project.. Both sides of the story hasn't even been told yet.. You must be unbiased for all situations regardless of your opinion of one company to another.

Beware! Skar Audio poor customer service
I don't know if it is pointless. Bill just wants Kevin to do what he says he is going to do. Bill gave Kevin a chance and wants to do another build with skar products, but when Bill ask for technical info he feels he is being ignored. I hear ya. Side note, you should email Jacob for tech info on skar drivers ;)/> Lol, i've pulled out my crescendo manuals before to help people with wiring diagrams for their sundown amps.

Today's 4"VC Heavy Hitters
Well, i've heard them physically and talking to someone, you, who enjoys this hobby, car audio install isn't rocket science. From what i've personally and many others on here, swift's vehicle, is ridiculous in how accurate sound reproduction is above 150. Any other install that fails to do so with the same drivers either has an improper install or just a terrible vehicle to use them for. I am still to this day dumbfounded that the capability even existed for such accuracy at such high pressure levels. And i'm sure it isn't the only driver that can do it, lol.

Beware! Skar Audio poor customer service
I am totally unbiased when it comes to this stuff.. But i can tell you that you can assume because of shady support that hecompany won't last long.. Well, sadly, advertising will outlast what a company is actually capable of so you can sell the worst product possible but with proper advertising, it doesn't matter. I can give MANY examples of this technique. But in reality to the point of this topic, because Skar is probably a 1 person company, do not be surprised that this will happen. One thing i do not understand with small business like this is if you are going to be busy or absent for a while, at least let the public know beforehand. Now, if he is physically incapable of communication then that's different unless you see him lurking elsewhere, hehe.

Today's 4"VC Heavy Hitters
Let's all wait until summer of 2013 and see what's up. The SP4 has been out for quite a while and it's just been recently that people have been able to start commenting on them.
