Under the product description it says the 10 has an aluminum VC and the 12/15 are copper?

i dont see how. How do you have the wires coming out of the enclosure? I would inspect everything on the exterior, if nothing seems off you'll have to pull them.

Agreed D1's usually read ~ .7 Hopefully it's just a disconnected wire somewhere.

Using that logic the IA's should be able to take 5k plus because I have seen people do it with other 3" coils. Coil size is only part of the puzzle.

Any hardware store should carry fiberglass stuff.

I would just deaden normally to improve mid bass response. It should help with the sound outside as well. I guess I understand why I just wouldn't do it that way.
