The 8 ohm special has been a hit for home audio people because they usually run 2 or 4 large subs IB. So the MJ with plenty of cone and average xmax it does a great job for the money. The IXL model was started because some home audio people wanted even more displacement and xmax but did not want to pay big big money. Edit: I wanted to add, that in my rotation of subs for daily car audio usage, there is an MJ 18 8ohm sealed. I like the sound, and when I put it in the civic, it is fun to have all that cone in such a small car.
