  1. epicenters can be great, or be your worst enemy if inexperienced. first of all, the sub sounds like it's toast, so yeh you need a recone. but to be certain, take the woofer out of the box, test coil resistance with a dmm, and be sure tinsel leads are in-tact. a quick test is to physically push down on the center of the woofer (dustcap) and listen for any scraping sounds or any feeling in movement that isn't smooth. if it seems to grab in certain spots and you hear some light scratching, it's toast.... second...after the recone do this... a) be sure all bass boosts on amp/eq/head unit are off or on 0. (sub level on HU is different than bass boost read manual to be sure on how HU monitors signal strength on sub-out) b) get a DMM (digital multimeter) and read through the sundown audio setting proper gain thread. that will get your gain set correctly. c) next you smell something burning TURN IT DOWN OR OFF! d) if after doing all of the above and now the system just doesn't seem loud enough, it's because that is what your 300 dollar amplifier is capable of and you need to invest in some serious power. hope this helps!

  3. actually, Q's with the BP power option would probably be perfect. they are sound quality woofers meant to handle a pretty hefty amount of power. right now they are coming with the BP power option for free, so that keeps you under the 1k mark. I have run 3kw to a pair of 15's daily no problem. and I listen to a lot of rap, especially the stuff that hits low. with the BP power option that raises the rms from 1k a sub to ~1300 so that amp would be a perfect match. I think they would be some of the best woofers out there for your application, especially in that price range. or the ascendant audio Havocs, they are 1250 rms designed by Scott Atwell as well. (owner and designer for Fi car audio.) what kind of electrical upgrades you have for that amp? oh and if you wanted to spend a little extra money, the BL series probably would be a nice little upgrade with some options like the cooling.
  4. I would say go the route I believe denim is saying to go and get yourself a nice 4-channel amp that has a nice built-in crossover network to run its own active system. the 50.4 won't work from sundown, only 12 db slopes, but maybe find a used 100.4d, I know someone was selling a few on the hybrid-audio forum http://www.buwaldahybrids.com/phpBB3/ much better route IMO
  5. I suggest two 15" BL's, that amount of power matches up nicely for them. They are also designed to be loud daily drivers that can take a beating. (not abuse, but a beating)
  6. http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/store/products/Sundown-Audio-SAZ%252d2000D.html that's right here on SSA. here's a refurbished one...absolute steal! http://www.db-r.com/sell/store2/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=65_67_69_98 power wise, like I said the 2000d will put out around 2500 watts in the mid 12volt range, and with proper voltage closer to 3kw. I doubt that is much less if any less power than what you were getting out of those power acoustiks. so yeh a single 2000d would be plenty of power to pound while you save up for another one. of course output and wiring options still depend on which icons you have, can you please tell me if you have the dual 1's or dual 2's?

I will be interested to see some numbers after an amp gets in there!
  8. lol yeh can't lie your sister's cute, but can we see some pics of the system? and what all do you plan on putting in there, I see you got some construction to do yet!
  9. I think you would be very happy with a sealed Q if you are not familiar with IB installs, but for the best SQ setup an IB3 12" would probably work quite nice
  10. 10x better.. i don't know if i can believe that. after hearing my zapco's i don't know man 10x is a lot lol!! i guess i got to hear a pair some day! maybe yours! you live close to canada? lol jk! you live in like FL lucky guy! well, you should come down to spring break nationals in Daytona this year, you will see some real systems then lol well hybrids are like 20x better than others, so don't feel bad! Mac n Cheese- congrats! you will love it! I would love to see a power testing if the beast
  11. haven't used them personally, but as far as I know, those woofers would not be a good choice for you. do you already have an amp? and what price range we lookin at here?? I get the slowed down, so you want something to bang the lows and that's basically it. What size woofers were you looking for? and in what vehicle/box config? I know a lot of questions, but you didn't really give much information.
  12. those are good, but he didn't want to spend more than 125....
  13. those diamond audio's are a good deal, I would save up for a good name speaker, since you're not getting your amp till xmas, check back in closer to that or message me and I'll be more than happy to help you pick a nice set of components for your ride.
  14. they are ok for what they are, but compared to those CDT's or diamond audio's I showed you in my previous post, they are crap. to me mids/highs are very important get something you will be happy with for awhile, you are trying to save 50 bucks that is just going to turn into a larger expense in two weeks when you are going to wish you upgraded. phoenix gold isn't bad like a wal-mart brand, but at that point you can basically just pick out the cheapest you can find to use for now and save up if that's what you really want to do.
  15. first of all, do you have dual 1 ohm woofers or dual 2 ohm woofers....depending on your voice coils you could run a single 3500d, or two 2000d's. My idea for you would be to sell your amps and purchase one 2000d which will probably work better than both of the amps you have currently, then save up for electrical upgrades and a second 2000d as the woofers you have can handle the power.

Yes I do. There isn't really anything else I'm fitting in the car. Plus, my box probably won't be 10cuft. Probably 7 or so. 7cuft + wood + sub + port is going to be at least 10cuft actually, it is almost exactly 10 cuft, if you use about 12 sq. in. of port per cube, good number off the top of your head M5... lol I just happen to have a box 7.2 cuft airspace, and with port and everything, it is actually just over 10 cuft, but i have double walls...bracing...etc.. and when you are saying "SQ" as most people you really just want something as loud as possible that doesn't like a sony xplod.
  17. I think you really just need to figure out what you want your system to be most geared toward. the more musical, the less less numbers you will put up, simple as that. BTL is the loudest, then the BL, and finally the Q. of course all three have capabilities of putting up good numbers. alright?
  18. yeh, I mean HAT isn't cheap, but considering what they compete with, the prices are right. I run the legatia series though anyway, not the passive clarus series clarus are still great though! you should def. look into getting a set in the future, I like zapco but the hybrids would be 10 times smoother.
  19. some people do, but it's not covered, and you really don't gain all that much. wiring to .5 ohms is really more used for squeezing out that extra SPL for burps. in a recent test, the 1500d put out over 1900 watts at just under 13 volts, with an impedance rise of just over 1 ohm. For a daily setup no need to really worry about impedance rise, and the risk of problems versus the rewards for wiring to .5 ohms I just don't see justice. A lot of people think they can just wire to .5 ohm and if amp survives they will be louder than ever, if that was the case, why would anyone waste money on a 2000d to run at 1 ohm when they could run a 1500d at .5 ohm? because it's not a good idea. now to let you know though, for SPL competition, the amp is capable of 2600 watts possibly more with proper electrical (16v) at .5 ohm. not to mention you drop efficiency by a considerable amount dropping to .5 ohm.
  20. 135 sounds better, but even then, is it really going to outperform even the kinetik hc800? can pick those up for 140, and they are less than half the size and 1/3 the weight of a deka.
  21. It sounds to me like trying to piece together a component set really isn't going to work for the OP. If looking to add a budget mid-bass with a little range the MLI-65's are great, but I trying to piece them with a component set and get xovers and tweets all for no more than 120 dollars would be tough. Check these out--- http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/store/products/Cerwin%252dVega-Vega-65cs.html cerwin vega as always made a great product, they just don't build all the SPL stuff like they used to. http://www.woofersetc.com/p5207/CLS60A--CDT-Audio-Classic-65"-2Way-Component-Speakers.htm http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/p_19448_Diamond_Audio_D3635.aspx the diamond audio are 135, but would be worth the extra 10 bucks. I would recommend any of these sets well over the MLI-65's, (and yes I've used the MLI-65's) I know my mids/highs, and these 3 sets are about as good as it gets for that price range. I like the diamonds first, then the CDT's, then the Cerwin Vegas.
  22. In my experience, focals will basically get the loudest per watt. they are great speakers for getting loud and clear, and have quite a bit of quality. unless you are upgrading amp, I would highly recommend going with focal. they make some smaller coax too for you to replace your pillars with the kickers. if upgrading power, the morels are probably the best quality speaker on the list, rainbow makes fantastic products, but are really more well known for their upper lines which will far surpass your $300 dollar mark. kind of the same for morel, but if you can find morels for less than 300 dollars go for it.
  23. crazykenkid, thanks for your info. yeh, could be possible your older kinetiks just didn't get completely charged, but interesting you found it took them longer to charge. like you said though, they were older so who knows what abuse they went through. I think the final conclusion here is, if you are going to spend the extra dollar, kinetik, batcap, or XS are all great not really a bad choice, and if on a budget like shizzon said, as I do hear a lot about that the dekas are a good choice, but not so sure how "budget" they are, price I saw for a 9a31 was 187 dollars, I'd much rather have a kinetik hc1400 for 3 dollars more!
  24. sundown amps are underrated, chances are you could by a single 2000d and get similar performance that you were getting out of both of your power acoustik amps. anyway though, what vc configuration are you icons? D1's or D2's? that audiopipe amp may not be the best choice for you. if they are D2's you can put one of those amps on each pair perfectly, but from i see, that amp is a 2-channel amp, and it's 1 ohm capability is when it is bridged to a 2 ohm load, so each channel is at 1 ohm. that means you must wire to a 2 ohm load for full power, and wiring to 1 ohm would really put each channel at .5 ohm, and on a budget amp I would highly not recommend doing that.
  25. wise choice
