  1. I have been experimenting with boxes in the last couple days and am going to settle on a sealed enclosure for a single E8V2. It will get built today and when it's done and playing I will let you know how it works out. I can say that the e8V2 in 0.6 tuned to 35Hz with a pair of 2'' ports has tons of port noise, too much to bear. I don't have the room for a 3 or 4 inch port, so sealed it is.
  2. Awesome, that's not bad for a ginormous sub!
  3. I am gonna move back into the SPL ring again and I need to get some subs that don't weigh too much relatively speaking. How much do the N2 18's weigh?

Wanted to update this. I switched to the new Orion XTR series amps and I am now giving the X 10's 1500 RMS...they can take it, I am still running out of power LOL. These things are monsters!

I have four of the X series 10's in 0.5 cubes NET per sub. Sound great, play low and highly recommended.
  6. No SPL numbers as this is an SQ install. 1500 RMS going to four Fi X 10's. I am gonna meter it because it gets damn loud for an SQ car LOL. Install done myself.

Thanks for the compliments! Next year we see if I can win some SQ comps!

Thanks for the support! These X series 10's are sounding better and better everyday. They play low and are very, very accurate. I like them. Here's a finished pic:

Here's a few pics of the progress pics of the sub enclosure/amp rack. The front stage has been in and working for a while now.

Thanks for the comments, I appreciate them all. So far the 10's sound pretty dang good. They blend better than my IDQ 12's did and get louder as well. I am under the impression that these guys are gonna loosen up after a few days and play lower and louder, they just feel that way. I also wanna call BS on the 250 RMS rating...they are getting 700 total (175 each) and they laugh at it....need more power!!

Thanks! I am working on the rest, but it consists of Arc Audio KS series amps, Morel tweets and Exodus Anarchy mids. More of an SQ car with some SPL roots LOL.

Well, I couldn't sacrifice the space for ported so sealed it is. Went with around 0.5 cubes per sub and it's gonna be stuff with Polyfil. Here's a pic so far:

Thanks for the replies. What I was hoping for is more of a "here's what I built and here's how it sounded" type of thing. I am definitely an SQ guy, but I miss loud so I am gonna move closer to ""SQL"".

I just ordered 4 of the X series 10's to replace a pair of Image Dynamics IDQ 12v2's. I am curious what size vented enclosures have worked well with them. Thanks!
  15. When I send a deposit for the group buy, do I need to send $150 for two amps or just $75 as a good faith deposit?
  16. I am about 99% sure that I will be buying a Leviathan and a Kronos. I will know for sure on Tuesday when I have money in hand.
  17. OK, good to know. If I decide on the 21" then I will wait until the gasket is included and the T/S parameters are released. Kinda need those hehe
  18. Does the DP 21" come with a gasket? Also what are the T/S parameters? I am seriously considering buying one, but I need that info first, thanks! Glenn
  19. I planned on using the Q, I was just plugging sub specs into Win ISD and it seemed to have a high Q with a relatively normal FR curve in about 4 cubic feet. Kinda seemed like it might work in a sealed box. Of course specs don't tell you how it's gonna sound LOL
  20. That is a pretty high system Q, it will probably really exagerate the 50-70Hz range in car. If you want to go sealed, go with a driver designed for it, like everyone else said. BTW, the school of though that sealed = tigher bass, better transients, more accurate is all BS. This just comes from people who haven't been around a properly built ported box, because there are a crapload around. Sealed alignements are easier to get right, that makes them easier for the novice, but never, ever discount the sonic potential of vented alignments.... The MOST expensive loudpeakers in the world generaly are vented if they aren't servo driven, if that tells you anything... I'm talking like the $100K stuff..... I wasn't particularly worried about "tighter" bass not being present in a ported enclosure, I just really wanted to use a pair of 18's instead of one Going with vented I can only fit a single 18", but I'm really OK with that...I mean a single 18" should work nicely for SQ or for SPL alike. It's funny that you mention the most expensive speakers having ported designs because my all time favorite speaker is the B&W Nautilus and it's ported and sounds extremely accurate and clean. Giving that example is usually my way of clearing up the ported versus sealed debate lol
  21. I'm very familiar with high system Q's and exaggerating frequencies, so that's a valid point and I was worried about that. I am going to order the Q, but I was just curious what you guys thought about this sub. Thanks for all the input, I really appreciate it.
  22. I really want to buy a pair of ssd 18's and run them sealed, but everyone on this site say no. I plugged the T/S specs into Win ISD and it seems to be OK sealed in that sense. Qts is very high at 1.22 in 4 cubic feet. Here's what I have text-wise: 25.00 -9.42 -9.42 30.00 -5.73 -5.73 35.00 -2.66 -2.66 40.00 -0.28 -0.28 45.00 1.32 1.32 50.00 2.18 2.18 55.00 2.50 2.50 60.00 2.51 2.51 65.00 2.37 2.37 70.00 2.18 2.18 75.00 1.99 1.99 80.00 1.80 1.80 85.00 1.63 1.63 90.00 1.47 1.47 95.00 1.34 1.34 100.00 1.22 1.22 Of course in a larger sealed enclosure it looks much better as well as in a large ported enclosure. Is it possible to get away with running this sub sealed and for it to sound good and play low?
