If you're going to seal them you will lose quite a bit output. You could build bigger to get more low end out of them, but in doing so you lose some power handling. (Shouldn't be a problem with the power you plan to send them.) You can always build a couple of test enclosures to see what you like, then make the one you want pretty!

An old timer told me that back in the day they hardly ever changed there oil. I read an article where some guy ran mobil 1 in his car for 18,000 miles and tested it at various mileages along the way. He said it wasn't until 8000 when the oil actually started showing some degradation of the detergents in it. The only concern I have for the test was that each test required more new oil put in (<1/2 qt or so) My truck also has the oil change countdown that is said to be based off of how the truck is driven. In either event I'm going to be changing the filter at 3-4K and the oil at 6-8K I change mine every 2,000 religiously. Many people say it's overkill, but with my automotive luck....

On the second sub it kinda sounds like the coil is rubbing. Maybe it was a sloppy recone job? Give us all the info you got!

Some nice Mid bass speakers up front will correct your "problem." Sub woofers are meant to play sub-bass frequencies. You could tune higher also, to like 35-37 if you REALLY want to. I don't think you can damage the subwoofer by playing too high, it's too low you have to worry about. No lower than 1 octave below tuning frequency. Example: You're box is tuned to 32Hz, don't play lower than 16Hz.

The Q's will get louder and sound nicer. SQ is subjective after all.....
