  1. I was thinking the same thing. Usually people build sealed boxes or really low tuned boxes (like 15-20 hz).

heh, I was just outside and thought "holy crap, it's freakin' cold" .... 51* x2 52

There's a guy in my hometown that's owned like 3-4 business in the last 20 years, and they've all burnt down. When he opened a new place a couple years ago we joked about making a pool for how long this one would survive before it burns. I don't think it has yet, but it may have also closed already.

    a capacitor ryan1?
  5. if the fuzzy sound is on all of the speakers, it's most likely not their fault. Check the grounds and RCAs.
  6. tuning to 15-20 hz in a vehicle isn't overly practical, especially with the small space you have since a tune that low will require a long port which displaces a lot. also, tuning that low is hardly any different than just running sealed. You won't automatically blow your sub if you don't have a subsonic filter on a ported box. There aren't very many songs that have sub-30 hz bass notes that would be below your tuning. You just have to realize when there are so that you can turn it down a tad and avoid overexcursion. I went without a SSF on my ported box for about 5 years with no problems. You just have to be smart about it. With that said, it depends on what your definition of "deeper" is. Since most music doesn't get lower than 30 hz, as I mentioned, and a ported box usually exaggerates the 30-40 hz range, a ported box is often seen to sound "deeper." But if you actually want to play 15 hz notes, go sealed. Below 25 hz or so the sealed box will be louder. Hmm, feel like I've written this a time or two today.
  7. what causes such things?
  8. false. smaller drivers play no "faster" than larger ones. IMO, it really depends on the kind of sound you want. The ported 12 may get a tad louder and the low stuff from 30-40 hz will be increased from the sealed 15. But the sealed 15 will have a more even frequency response and will be able to play louder from around 25 hz and down.

of course, 2 minutes after I get out there to put the new amp in the cold front comes through. Dropped from 58 to 40 in about 12 seconds. Luckily it was a fast install. and I have bass again, so I'm happy

wow it's 58 degrees outside right now. at 9am! with like 89 mph winds. But a cold front is just about to move through and make the temp like 30 degrees by late this afternoon with possible freezing rain. I better go put my other amp in real fast before that happens.

How much? shoot, I don't know. Maybe $20 plus shipping each? Not really sure how much blown amps go for. But to me they're pretty much paperweights right now.

IMO, Wii is overhyped and not really that awesome after the initial bit wears off. Not that the Xbox is much better.

Interested in the 404. Is the board damaged? Not that I can see. At least there are no big holes like Adrian's . I thought the problem was four diodes so I replaced them, but it still does not work.

you can't wire 2 batteries in series/parallel. it's either series or parallel. Wiring in series sums the voltages, wiring in parallel sums the currents, which is what you want so you'll stay at 12 volts. wiring them in series will give you 24 volts and will fry most of the electricals in your car.
  17. Happy bday. wait, I'm 59 minutes late. Well, I'm still one minute ahead in mountain time!

anybody want a burnt up Crossfire BMF1000D or VR404? I emailed Crossfire about the BMF and they said they'd refurbish it for $150. Wasn't worth it to me, as I have another amp I could use.

Hey thanks. Have to remember and flip the switch to get into mod mode when I come here now.
  20. Like Jon said, go get the code read. it may not have anything to do with your electrical.
  21. is it a dual 2 ohm sub? If so, you can get a plate amp that'll put out max power at 4 ohms.

ha ha, you silly kids and your school.
  23. They do those jet flyovers at KU games sometimes, and I frickin love those things. So loud, powerful, and fast. It's exhilarating, and plus they can shake the stadium.
  24. any size fuse will work, just so long as it's not above the fusing John put in his post for the wire size. Then at the other end, you usually don't want to go below the fusing that the amp has on it because you run the possibility of blowing that fuse a lot, which is just annoying. Kind of a general rule is to add up the fusing on the amps you are running and use that size fuse on the power wire, just so long as the fuse size doesn't exceed the wire's current-carrying capability. I have a 100 amp fuse on my 1/0 and have never blown it or had any problems.

I read a report yesterday that said sugar can be as addictive as cocaine, because high levels of sugar intake release dopamine in the brain, just like cocaine does. Tests on lab rats showed that after giving them lots of sugar for a week or two, they exhibited withdrawal symptoms when they were taken off. They would become depressed, lethargic, etc. I guess that's why we eat junk food when we're sad, it releases dopamine and makes us happier. Or at least supposed to anyways.
