Box design help
The box I have now is about 2.4 cubic feet IIRC and that won't even fit through the trunk opening. I had to go through the car. I'm probably not going to start the build until spring time since it's way too cold out right now and it'll give me time to save up a bit more money, but I'll be posting a build log when I do start.

Box design help
haha, that is funny. Yea, I'll probably end up building it just like that but I plan on carpeting it as well. I never thought about firing the port to the side, but it would also allow me to make the box deeper and the port won't get in the way of the plexiglass window. Thanks for the help. I'll have to do some measuring to see what dimensions will work, but considering height was the problem I don't think I'll have any problem getting it to fit. Height is mainly a problem because of the opening of the trunk. Here's a pic: By making the box shorter those little triangle peaces won't get in the way and I'll be able to make the box a lot wider and deeper without having a problem getting it through the opening. The only hard part may be getting it through the door since it's a 4dr and the openings aren't that large. Maybe I'll take some boxes home from work and make a cardboard box the same dimensions and see how it fits.

Box design help
It's worth a try, but the only spot I'd even have room is maybe towards the front of the box (towards of the edge of the trunk) on the side. nick_19's suggest would probably work since height is the main problem. Doing that will alow me to make it deeper and wider without having any problems fitting it in the trunk. What would be the optimal configuration for the port though? You mentioned facing it towards the side. What sort of advantage would this offer as opposed to rear firing? I also mentioned on CA-F how I wanted to do a plexiglass window with my box, but the port would be in the way and I didn't want to do one where the sub mounted. If I end up doing a box like that, I'mm end up putting a window on either the side facing inside the car or in the rear with blue LED's.

Box design help
My goal is to be loud but sound good as well. I'm not going for numbers. Originally that was my plan, either get a single 12" or two 10's. The only problem with the two 10's is that it would be pretty expensive so I decided on going with a single sub setup. Since the price difference between a 12" and 15" Icon is so small that's why I wanted to try to fit a 15".

Box design help
What if the sub and port faced inside the car? Or if the sub and port were on top allowing me to make the box not as tall?

Box design help
Recently I've been thinking about trying to fit a 15" Icon in the trunk of my Sunfire as opposed to the 12" I've planned. I typically would just use a slotted port, but the amount of displacement taken up by the port would bring the box pretty much all the way down to 3cft as opposed to the 4 that's supposed to be optimal. So I've been reading a bit and the idea of using Aero ports kind of interested me. However, does the recommendation for port area remain the same (12-16 square inches per cubic foot)? If so, I would need 2 6" ports or 4 4" ports, and in both configurations the port length would have to be too long. Is my only bet for fitting a 15" is to settle with something like a 3cft box and making up for it using polyfill? How much polyfill would be necessary? The dimensions I'm working with are probably somewhere around 32x16x19 (WxHxD). I'm hoping 16 would be enough for the height since the trunk isn't too high. I figured I'd double up the MDF to allow me to mount the sub so close to the edge. I guess I could mount the sub on top, but would I lose ouput as opposed to facing it to the rear?

Box design for Sundown Audio E8
My girlfriend eventually wants a system in her vehicle. Nothing really loud or anything, just a bit more bass then stock and inexpensive. I showed her the E8 and she thought a small sub was "cute" and wants one. The small box would leave space in the trunk as well. I plan on building the box for her, but I must be retarded. The recommendations for the box are 0.60 ft^3 tuned to 30 Hz ported. I've been messing around with the calculator on RE's site and can't figure out how I would tune it that low in such a small box. The only way I was able to do it is if I make the port only 0.5" wide, which sounds way too skinny for me. Any help?

Are there any decent 4x6" sets?
I looked at that set, but I'm afraid the mounting depth might be a little too much to fit without interfering with the window rolling down.

I want to hear a loud car,
Anybody around upstate NY with a loud system? There aren't really any decent systems around where I live with the exception of a buddy of mine. One guy I know has two 15's in a box way too small for it and wonders why my crappy 12" Duals being fed only 290w in a custom box are just as loud. His solution? He wants to add two more 15's. Most of the people around here are like that, even ones with nice subs that do have potential have really crappy installs.

Are there any decent 4x6" sets?
For $20 I'll just make my own, I have a bunch of scrap MDF anyway. Anybody have suggestions for a 6.5" component set? I've been looking around and found a few options, but anything you guys think would be worth looking at would be appreciated. Most of the music I listen to is rap and other mainstream stuff, a little bit of rock here and there. So mid bass output is going to be important as I like to "feel" my music and I think I remember reading a post on here saying the feeling in your chest is all mid bass. I also want clear highs, as well as getting loud without being too expensive. I'm thinking around $200-$250 for the component set, maybe less depending on what everything adds up to in the end since I plan on replacing everything in my car except head unit and the 6x9"s in the rear right now. Also, I think the depth I have to work with is about 2.5"

Are there any decent 4x6" sets?
I found the product on their site, but no information on pricing. How much do they go for? If it's cheap enough I'll just buy it, if not I'll probably just end up making my own.

Are there any decent 4x6" sets?
Thanks for the help rushnrun. I guess it's time to start looking for a 6.5" component set and an amp to power them.

Are there any decent 4x6" sets?
Where could I find an adapter for a 5.25" component? I found some for 6.5" on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/4%22x-6%22-...103126005r22960 Now that I look at it it seems pretty simple to make my own adapter plate and it definitely does open up plenty of other options. Assuming I could fit either a 6.5" and 5.25", what would be the best option? Also, should I even bother upgrading the 6 x 9's in the rear? I was considering keeping those powered by the HU and just put a nice component set up front power by a separate amp. Would that be the best option on a budget?

Are there any decent 4x6" sets?
I drive a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire and in the front doors the speakers are 4x6" and in the rear 6x9". My current setup is Sony Xplodes in both locations so I'm looking to upgrade. I' ve already decided on getting a 12" Icon and Sundown Audio SAZ-1000D, but I'm unsure what to do about the rest of the setup. From the looks of it there really aren't that many options for 4x6" speakers that would be any better then my Sonys. What would you guys suggest in my situation? I'm just trying to price everything together for the setup to get an idea of the price and make any adjustments to make it more affordable if need be.

Logitech makes great webcams, and that specific model is a great choice. However, you can get it much cheaper on Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16826104087

Anybody OC their PC?
I definitely plan on upgrading sometime within the coming months. Then again, I also want to buy a new SSA Icon and Sundown Audio amp. I don't know which one I'm going to buy first. When I do upgrade the PC I plan on getting an E8400, Asus P5Q Pro, 4GB of RAM (DDR2 1066), and a HD4850. Another thing I didn't mention in my first post is that I have a 7900GS volt modded. Stock is for the core is 1.2V and with a little bit of conductive ink I brought it up to 1.5v. Which allowed me to bring the core up to 685MHz. I also volt modded the memory just by shading one of the resistors, but it didn't end up having an effect at all on my memory overclock. Here's a guide on it: http://endeavorquest.net:8880/7900GT_VM/index.htm I also got pretty lucky on the RAM I bought. I just bought cheap Corsair Value RAM and it ended up having UCCC chips and overclocked pretty well.

Best in-dash head unit w/ navigation, bluetooth, voice capability, etc
I'm looking to get a new head unit for my car and I'd really like something with all of those features. The specific model I'm interested in right now is the AVIC-F90BT by Pioneer. Anybody have any experience with it and/or want to suggest something better? The lowest price I could find on it was here: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001BJ6JQS?smid=A...mp;linkCode=asn

Upgrade with limited budget
Could I get a nice 1000w amp for under $300 or would I just be better off getting the SSA Icon 12D2 + Sundown SAE-1000D package deal here for $549? Also, any recommendations on specific component sets? I'm looking at some right now and figured out my car normally takes 4x6's in the front. Also, what do you mean by running passive and any recommendations on a cheap 2 channel amp?

Upgrade with limited budget
About a year ago I bought my first subs which were just cheap Duals from Best Buy. I am still using them today, but in a box I built for them. The box was actually made for two 10" FI Q's and I just put the 2 12" Duals in them temporarily, but I never got around to upgrading so the Duals stayed. Now I'm looking at more options, but deciding to go a slightly different route. I figure a decent sub with the right install would sound a ton better than what I have now, so that's what I'm looking for. I don't have an exact budget in mind, but I'm basically looking for the best bang for my buck. I don't want to spend too much by buying a really power hungry sub, along with a large amp to power them, and a nice alternator in order to power that. What I am looking for is it to get loud. I'd prefer a smooth response as opposed to a peaky SPL system, but I still want it to get loud. I believe I should upgrade my other speakers as well, as I have Sony Xplode 6x9's in the back and and the same in the front doors (I don't know the size, it's the same size as the stock ones). I figure there is no point having a really nice subwoofer setup if the rest of the system sucks, and this is an area I definitely could use a lot of help with as far as optimal speaker setup and everything. I also have the stock deck and no sound dampening, so the car rattles really bad and just makes everything sound like crap. The car is a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire. I know I didn't give many specifics at all, but any system recommendations based on my criteria of wanting loud, relatively cheap, and sound good? Considering the fact that everything in my car sucks at the moment I'm looking at upgrading everything. Probably not all at once because money is an issue though.

I was going to do that, but the guy didn't know what he was doing, so I had him cut it bigger. He still ended up cutting it a few inches short.
