  1. you shouldn't trust the dial at all. pick a test tone, say 60 hz and play that through the sub. now start with the dial at 50 and slowly move up until the test tone starts to decrease in loudness. that will roughly be the -3db point. its not so much that you should pick the xover frequency ahead of time. that doesn't make sense. This is more so for comparing different xover points (ie. 50 vs 60 vs 80 and so forth). lets say you find that 60 is good but 80 isn't. next you would try something in between. repeat until you find the magic number. you can do this for the hpf on your mids as well. in this case you pick 80hz for example, start with your dial ABOVE (instead of below), and listen for the -3db point.
  2. ya depends what you want to invest in it i guess. cost of replacing trim panels later, etc.
  3. dont want to modify the trim panel? you could cut a hole and depending on how large the hole is you could then attach a 10" or 12" grill over the hole. something like this might look ok. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_39744_Alpine-KTE-12G.html http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_7419_JL-Audio-SGR-12W6v2.html
  4. what do you use for cutting the trim panel? I've been using a dremel and its throwing molten plastic at me.
  5. mechanical noise tells me you're over driving the sub. my guess is a leaky enclosure?
  6. by 4th order you mean bandpass i assume? why bandpass over a typical ported configuration. wouldn't the smaller gross enclosure requirement be helpful considering you could run larger subs?
  7. hope that isn't where ncc works lol
  8. measure the space for the box and lets see what will fit.
  9. spin off of a Japanese show. people run obstacle courses kind of like american gladiator.
  10. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsWo8apgLys first one is still my favorite so far.
  11. you should check the mounting depth. the IA i 10" has a vented pole so it would need additional clearance. If that doesn't work than you could look at something like the sundown sd-2
  12. It's two smoke rings in air. You're right http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vortex_ring From Reddit http://www.reddit.com/r/gifs/comments/2asjc4/when_two_perfect_smoke_rings_collide/ @ the comments dolphins are fucking amazing
  13. anyone have an idea on how to dampen the metal rod things that go from the handle to the door latch?
  14. $170, ppi 900.4 or any of the variants (polk, hertz, nvx, etc) are about the same size as the arc audio amp.
  15. no you dont seem to understand. All things equal, a 15 will only be louder than a smaller sub across its entire response. Terms like cleaner or consistent dont apply in any way. To put it another way. Its completely possible to have an 8" sub and 15" sub with the same frequency response from 20hz-100hz however the larger sub would have the output advantage.
  16. not arguing just pointing out you didn't test them appropriately. gained matched blind test is the only way to do it.
  17. if you're chasing a bit more output you could move the xover point from 50 up to something like 80hz. you would lose some of that upfront bass however.
  18. if the amps weren't gained matched than that explains your bias.
  19. listen to them and let us know.
  20. depends on the sub. how do you know it too small?
  21. watts are watts. there might be some other options if we knew your size limitations.
