Help with my R's
depending on the displacement on the type r's.....i looked at alpines site the other day and i think it only reccomended 1.75ft^3 per sub. so you should be ok. but if you want to go bigger then go bigger. i suggest looking at the website and downloading the manual, it will have all the answers there.

Help with my R's
i dont know how much the r's take up but the port will take up 1.17ft^3. so that brings you right at 4ft^3, subtract sub displacement and you should be around 1.8ft^3 each i think.

Help with my R's
no problem man, just tweak those dimensions a little to get the size you want. but like i said make sure you check with someone once you decide on what you're going to use. i remember reading on here that it's been wrong before.

Help with my R's
you should check out http://reaudio.com/speaker_box/LPort_Box_Calc.html and see what you can come up with. they even give you measurments on what size to cut the mdf. but i also heard that it can sometimes be inaccurate so double check with someone on here before you start the build.

Help with my R's
Whoever is going to design your box will need your max dimensions first. 40'' long x 13.5'' high x 22'' deep will give you 4.7ft^3 Port of 5'' wide x 12'' tall will give you 60in^2 of port and a tuning of around 33hz Once you subtract port displacement and sub displacement you should be around 3.5ft^3 or 1.75ft^3 per sub which is what Alpine recommends.

Just Got my 15" FI Q a couple days ago
Was there a huge difference in output when switching to ported from sealed? Because I only have around 1.5ft^3 to work with and i'm debating between a Q10 ported or a Q12 sealed and I'm trying to figure out the difference in output between those two. Sorry if I hijacked the thread.

New Box Design + calculations=aren't adding up.. PICS
i just realized reaudio's program is for L-shaped ported enclosures. so the length of the first port wall will automatically be one port width away from the back wall because they are expecting you to add another port wall to the right. so if you don't want to use an L-shape port, you might not want to use this program. the shortest they're going to let you make the port is 20.25'' (26.5-.75 for the back of the box-5.5 for the width of the port) and that gave you a tuning of 29hz i believe.

go to reaudio.com and use their box builder and your port would only be 13.5'' tall if your box was 15'' tall (subtract 3/4'' for top and bottom of box)

Understanding/dealing with cabin gain
I have a regular cab truck and have the same problem. It sounds much louder and deeper when the windows are down. Don't know what it is, I just figured it was because the subs are right behind the seats.

Old BMs kick major ass!! Finally got them metered.
They should sound better actually, a much more linear BL curve due to the XBL^2 tech in them. As for output, I have no clue, but my guess would be no. They will be loud I'm sure, but compared to a ported sub with more Xmax, they probably won't be as loud. Yeah that's what I figured. Adding a second one should make up for it I'm sure. Two 12's in around 1.5 cubes would be nice as it is.

Will the new BMs be able to compete with the older version even though they are recommended for only .5ft^3 sealed? By compete I mean output, I read they were supposed to sound just as good.

Earthquake!!!
I'm sitting in my classroom and I just felt another quake. Much less powerful and for only a few seconds....everyone else felt it too so I can't be imagining this.

Earthquake!!!
Haha I know, it was crazy. I thought it was my roommate shaking my bed to mess with me, but when I opened my eyes and no one was in my room I got real confused. Then I heard the cups and plates in the cabinet ratteling and my bed was still moving back and forth. Pretty crazy considering I live in a 4-story, 56 unit apartment building.

I'm in Charleston, IL (Eastern Illinois University) and that earthquake shook my bed so hard it woke me right up.

smaller boxes
I was wondering the same thing. I'm either going with 1-12'' sealed or 1-10'' ported and I'm limited on space. Then I noticed the Havoc 12'' can be in 1.5ft^3 ported and it caught my eye.
