Recone for HK12X2?
Talking about the HK12X2 motor... it's a pretty beefie motor so hopefully it's worthwhile....? 18 or a 21 recone would be cool

Recone for HK12X2?
Bringing this back up.. I'm needing an 18 to run so I need this thing turned into an 18... any idea on specs... (i know the specs are dependent on the motor..) Looking at doing this fairly soon...

Building a Subwoofer
front fire a pair of the cheaper 12's and down-fire a 6" areo port just make a tall box with a small foot print... something like a 16x16x36" box (this isn't something exact just to get an idea of size) The quatro is a little better woofer but sounds like your a bass head... so for the little extra money you'll have a bunch more output by running the 12's and they sound good so don't worry about them.. I wish a vid could show how good my parents' sounds.

Building a Subwoofer
my parents house has huge windows... Like 5'x8'.. with rear firing it made them rattle terribly.. by switching to front fire it lost a little output but it got rid of almost all of the rattle (it was rear-fire/corner loaded__i.e.. the box was in the very corner of the room--now it's in the same corner but with the port facing away from the tv) the front fire sounds better due to less rattles.. loss in output was fairly minimal--didn't matter it was way too much bass anyway..

5 channel amp sq options
depending on the speakers... Massive makes a nice 5 channel P950.5... 2ohm stable on all channels Much nicer than the kicker that I use to run... (cleaner, more output)

Building a Subwoofer
I'm a big fan of floor firing the woofers and rear firing the port. (opinions may vary) My parents is floor fired sub and front fired port--rear firing caused too many rattling windows

Building a Subwoofer
Two 12's will be similiar to a single 15... the two 12's would see more power out of the amp than the single 15 due to impedence.. (the 15 is 8 ohm the 12's are 8 ohm each so 4 ohm on the amp=full power out of the amp) My parents 15 is running half power on the amp and the gain is turned down do to too much output, it over powers their mains and not to mention rattles the windows. They have quad 4" towers, 1" tweets with a 3.5" surround set--all custom built by myself and a nice 100x5 receiver.. they're HT sounds Awesome .. it's in a 20x20x10'(ceiling) wide open room... Literally knocks the pictures off the wall when you crank on it... serious lows and still has plenty of upper range. Build your box right and you'll be more than happy

Building a Subwoofer
I was just reccomending something that I've actually used.. That's the exact parts that I used in my parents sub.. the dayton 12's would be just as good of a choice for much less than what you'd spend on the re or the diamond

Building a Subwoofer
the "bash" amps aren't nearly as nice as the Daytons... never heard of O Audio.... The daytons do need the use of a 3prong adaptor to get rid of ground noise...

Lots of 18s
that's a bunch of oozin' foam....

87 Chevy Caprice
boy that thing needs some love(dents).... looks like fun... big old trunk

Building a Subwoofer
oh yeah... forgot to comment on the pyle... those pyles are junk... stay away from them... The dayton amp will do you better.. (or some other brand.) Pyle=trash pile...

Tell me if im on the right track
200a for the front and rear would be fine... 300 isn't necessary... Fused distribution block would be a good idea but not necessary... You should have: Front batt---fuse-------------fuse---rear batt-----fuse----amp The onboard fuses in the amp count as the fuse before the amp.. it's not a bad idea to put a fused distro-block before the amps.. ***Same ground point is good..

For the next test probably gonna run it on a pair of SAZ3000D's maybe 4.... She'll see the lanes again this year as I hunt for a 150 in meca S1 I really need a Dcon to play with... from the looks of it it should be close to the same potential..

Building a Subwoofer
On you're other question on the kickers.... stay away from kicker woofers for HT.... You don't want any part of that.... Just don't.... I'm a kicker buff and I won't try it... good for spl but won't sound right in HT

try the 15" dayton--the cheaper not the MK and pick up one of their 100-250watt plate amps.. I built a 2.5cube box tuned to 25hz-4"areo port (could have used more port area) for my parents HT installed the dayton 15 and the smaller 75-100w plate amp and all I can say is wow.. only cost about 200 to build the whole thing(sub, amp and box) Sub rattles everything and really pounds out the lows well.. Can't go wrong at that price. **looked them up for you... prices have increased slightly since I bought my parents.. sub here http://www.parts-express.com/pe/pshowdetl....tnumber=295-325 amp here http://www.parts-express.com/pe/pshowdetl....tnumber=300-802 here's their 240w which is what I run in my ht setup http://www.parts-express.com/pe/pshowdetl....tnumber=300-804 they're out of stock but they've got a good price on these right now..

for those that ask about RE SE's... pics of 5k aftermath...
I ran it a whole 04 season on 3.4k for daily use and comps (and some 05 season, then some 07 season )... 2.5cubes.. 28hz tuning 2 4" areos.. was higher tuning for comps.. I just swapped out ports. **granted I didn't drive around with it cranked all the time... so it wasn't seeing a full 3k daily.. just at comps.. tested output btw

Well 2 years ago I decided to hook two 2500 watt amps to my re se 12.. tested output on the amps was 2660@45hz... Anhow after several burps the sub started to rattle but played ok.. I thought I blew it... I was moving my stuff around today and though wtf I'll take that thing apart and see what happened... here's all I found... Pulling off the cosmetic dustcap... underneath the inner dustcap was off and rattling around... My noise... Coil still shiny copper not burnt at all.. I'm gonna glue her back up today and get it ready for more abuse ***this is a 2004 era SE

SDC2.5 box
**it was a LONG night... I havn't been to bed yet... I'd personally shoot for the 30-35hz range... not that 3hz will make a huge difference but that's getting up there. ***It's really personal preference.. I've got buddies that LOVE 45hz tuning they say mine lacks the "highs" --they seem to listen to a lot of constant, fast paced "humming" bass... to each their own I spose Good luck with the box!
